Disappointed with the outcome of my appointment. I was treated with respect and courtesy throughout the process (hence 2 stars, but barely), and they do have beautiful dresses, but AFTER I said YES to a dress (with some convincing as it's been hard for me to feel beautiful in a wedding dress), and there was talk of champagne and celebrations, I hear my stylist casually mention to my mom while I change that there "might be" an "extra charge" for a bigger size for this particular designer - turns out she wanted to charge me 25% MORE THAN THE PRICE ON THE TAG - that's like a whole other wedding dress!! Why would you not mention that sooner??? That should have DEFINITELY been mentioned prior to me trying on, or at least before saying yes!! I'm not saying it's their fault that the designer charges extra for normal sized dresses, but there was no "well maybe we should get a seamstress up here to see what she thinks about your measurements and this dress and appropriate sizing," just the loose measurements and assurances of my stylist that I should definitely order this bigger size so they could tailor it to me and make sure it fit perfectly. Could I afford that? Sure, but that was handled so poorly, I felt totally scammed and confused, and we left empty-handed. Update: I got a follow-up phone call post-review, which I really do appreciate, but I just said yes to a different dress from a different salon!! (Literally minutes before the phone call), so it all worked out as it was supposed to in the end! (My rating stays as is, but I'll give the full two stars.) read more

The dress selection is nice but not as big as some other stores. They have a decent price range but most of it is pretty expensive. I easily got an appointment and the lady on the phone was very nice. The sales associates were super friendly and really helpful. I had a really good experience selecting a dress and actually ended up getting my dress there. I loved it, I looked amazing and felt just perfect on my wedding day. I was even able to take pictures of the dresses while I was selecting my favorite, which not all high end dress stores allow. They helped me get the right heel height for the dress and we went through every earring there to find the right length and type that would be just perfect. Overall, I had a great experience and everything I expected from a high end dress store. read more

I went shopping at EJ last week with my MOH, and definitely had some preconceived opinions of what a main line bridal shop would be like. I could not have been more wrong. The entire staff at EJ was warm, welcoming, and helpful. The store is gorgeous, but comfortable. I actually did not end up getting my dress there, as I found the one for me with a designer they don't carry. But I would highly recommend anyone in the Philadelphia region to add them to their list. Emily was, without a doubt, one of the most professional and talented stylists I have worked with in a long time. Our daughter received her undivided attention and we welcomed her well thought-out comments. We left Elizabeth Johns and fulfilled an obligation at another venue. The difference was night and day. Two hours later, we were back at Elizabeth Johns having measurements taken and ordering our daughter's Modern Trousseau gown. I was at Elizabeth John's this afternoon and I'm still stunned about the way the manager Lacy handled an issue. I work in sales/marketing and I also have previous experience with bridal shops, alterations, etc. My daughter's gown and veil are beautiful. The gown needed very little altering....boning, hooks for the bustle and a loop for the train. The seamstress wrote $375 on our slip, which we were then told by the front desk, was a mistake. Bridal gown alterations start at $525 and THEN they have a list of "extra" alterations (not included in $525?!) that they charge you for separately. (I just spent $8000 here....are you KIDDING ME?!) My daughter wanted to speak to her own tailor to ask about her cost for the alterations. She just had extensive alterations done on a bridesmaid gown last week for $150, so figured it might be much less expensive to take her wedding gown elsewhere. We decided to take the dress with us and then we were told there would be a $100 "pinning fee" AND they would be removing the pins if we took the dress! I asked to speak to the manager because I wanted to know how you can charge someone $100 to "pin" a dress and then remove the pins?! The manager's RESOLUTION was to not charge us to remove the pins! WOW. Be forewarned....they will always suggest you order up a size or two because bridal shops make a LOT of money on alterations. The sales people we dealt with at Elizabeth John were wonderful. But after today's experience, I would NEVER recommend them. There are lots of other shops in the area. This should be one of the happiest times in my daughter's life and she was so disappointed, angry and upset. Thanks Lacy. 8/24/17 In response to Lacey's reply: Don't try to justify your removing the pins because you didn't charge us. Your policy is to charge $100 AND remove the pins. We were willing to pay the $100 if you left the pins in the dress. YOU refused. With regards to sizing...Your salesperson recommended we order a dress two sizes larger than what we ordered. Tell the whole story truthfully and save your "fake" patronizing apology for someone else. read more

Exceptional Experience - Let me start by saying this review is a few months overdue, as I purchased my dress & veil from Elizabeth Johns in October ( my wedding is in June). Marina made my entire day!! She is knowledgeable, fashionable & down to earth. She made me feel like I was trying on dresses with one of my friends! I tried on 7 dresses, and the final two were between the one I had picked & one she had picked out for me. She did a really great job. My experience at Elizabeth Johns was amazing before I even entered the store. I had called to track down a Lela Rose gown I saw online and was lucky enough to have Deborah answer the phone. After getting in contact with the designer, Deborah spent months tracking down the dress (it was overseas being re-beaded). She kept me updated every step of the way and scheduled me for an appointment as soon as it was available. As soon as we entered the salon we were greeted by both the receptionist and Deborah who had already set up my dress in a room. She encouraged us to look around and pick any other dresses we would like to try on and made everyone feel completely comfortable and so special. During the appointment she was SO patient with me when I decided to save THE dress for last - taking care to make sure every dress was pinned and tucked perfectly before we went out to show the crowd. When I finally put on "my dress" we knew it was the one! It was truly such an incredible experience. We celebrated and took lots of pictures and by the time we left we felt like Deborah and the EJ Manager were part of our family. Even when we went downstairs to look at bridesmaid dresses, our experience was amazing! I can't say enough great things about Elizabeth Johns and my consultant Deborah. Exquisite Dresses with Down-to-Earth and Non-Intimidating Staff This was the part of the pre-wedding process I dreaded the most. I made the mistake of walking into a bridal store blindly and it was the most intimidating and miserable experience. The sales people were pushy and they pressured me to try on dresses that were well above my budget. I felt embarrassed and demoralized. Then, I went to Elizabeth John on the Main Line where you might expect a similar experience, but it was the complete opposite in every way imaginable. My experience at Elizabeth John was wonderful and perfect from the moment I entered the store until the day I picked up my dress. The store had a wide selection of dresses in a range of prices and BJ, my saleswoman, was patient, honest, unpretentious, and seemed attuned to what I was hoping to find. She was tireless and unflagging in her determination to help me realize my "dream" dress. I mostly appreciated her willingness to work with me and to be considerate of my budget without pitching me towards more expensive dresses. While I looked on the rack, she went to the back and found dresses on "clearance" or those that were "discontinued" because they resembled some of the attributes I wanted in a dress. She was wonderful. In addition, my experience at the store was made even more wonderful by Kathy, the seamstress. Her extraordinary talent resulted in an absolute perfect fit, which required several alterations because I was committed to shedding some pounds before I walked down the aisle. I can't imagine that there is anyone in the wedding alteration world who could surpass her talent. And, she is a dream to work with. Elizabeth Johns was my daughter's first bridal appointment. She found a dress she liked very much but we had an appointment later the same day and another in 1 1/2 weeks. Our experience at Elizabeth Johns was very nice. The store is beautiful. Our consultant suggested we schedule another appointment for the day after our last appointment as the wedding was just 6 1/2 months away. So that is what we did. We were scheduled for Sunday at 11am before the store opened. As it turned out my daughter fell in love with her perfect dress at the appointment on Saturday so I called and canceled our Sunday appointment. My daughter's credit card was charged $25 for cancelling the appointment. This appointment was made as suggested by Elizabeth Johns knowing we had a Saturday appointment. It is not the money but the way they did it. I will not go back for my mother of the bride dress as it just left a bad feeling about their business practice. read more

Terrible customer service. They sized my girlfriend at the wrong size and when the dress arrived and we called the store, they said that there was nothing they could do. They told her to wear the dress around the house for a week and stretch it out and then they basically told her she must have gained weight because there was not way they sized her wrong. After telling her she would have to pay to come in and get the dress altered she hung up and that was the last we heard form them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! read more

I had a great experience working with everyone at the bridal shop. I am the mother of the groom and went looking for a dress as I could not find one anywhere else. The bridesmaids also got their dresses here. Everyone was professional and courteous and most of all they listened to what I wanted and I found the perfect dress within my budge. At no time did I ever feel pressured or rushed. The dress came in well before it was expected and I had my first alterations yesterday (3/14). I had a wonderful experience at Elizabeth Johns and ended up buying my wedding dress here. My consultant was Ericka and she was lovely. When I made my initial phone call to schedule my appointment, I stated my preferred budget, which happens to be on the very low end of Elizabeth Johns. The lady on the phone (I don't recall her name) told me the price ranges very tactfully though and I appreciated that information upfront so I had realistic expectations. When I arrived, Ericka had already set aside some dresses in my price range she thought I might like. At no point did she ever try to upsell me into something more expensive. Ericka and all of the other ladies in the store were welcoming and positive, and I liked that we could take photos. When I said "yes" to the dress, the champagne was brought out and it was such a great moment! The atmosphere is upscale and classy. This salon is as good as it gets! Over the summer, my mom and I stopped by without an appointment. We were pretty sure we were going to be turned away, but the manager Lacie accommodated us so graciously. While I didn't wind up purchasing my dress here, I enjoyed my experience at the salon so much that I made sure to come back here to get my girls' bridesmaids dresses. My fiancé's mother also came back here to get her own dress. Great staff and a great selection. Highly recommend. read more

Now that my friend's wedding is over and I don't have to deal with this place anymore, I can say just how much I HATED this place. The bridal consultation was actually very promising. We worked with Jessica, and she was very attentive and not pushy at all. That was only the second place we had visited for bridesmaid dresses and we were pretty set on ordering from them. She took our measurements while we were there and once the bride decided on the dress she wanted us to wear, they called us to place the order. That's when the problems started. I live in the DC area, but my family is in NJ so it was easier for me (or someone else) to pick up the dress from their NJ location. Apparently they can't just place the order and ship it to another location, so I had to wait to hear back from the NJ location consultant to place my order. That took a couple days. After that minor hiccup, it was playing the waiting game. My dress came in (2 weeks later than expected) and it was EXTREMELY tight. It's always a possibility when there's a 5-month gap between measurements & fittings, but it was tight around my rib cage & shoulder, which don't exactly expand THAT much. The seamstress said there wasn't a lot to let out, but she'd do what she can. I should've just taken the dress with me and save myself another trip to NJ, but I figured it was best to just have them handle the alternations since they ordered it. I came back 3 weeks later & the dress couldn't even zip up. The wedding was in 2 weeks and I was beyond frustrated. After 2 hours in the shop, the manager pulled out my measurements from the consultation (now 6 months prior). She took one look at them and said my dress should've been ordered the next size up. Mind you when I was asked what size I wanted to order based on the measurements, I was offered the size I ordered and a size smaller, not larger. The manager proceeded to tell me that the since I was on the cusp of plus size it's possible that she didn't want me to have to pay for the additional cost of plus size dresses, so she never offered it. That's not a good excuse in my book. Being able to fit in my dress is more important than the additional cost. I'm in another wedding, where my friend bought her dress from this location so the bridesmaids dresses are being slightly discounted & I literally told my friend that I'd rather pay more than deal with this hassle again. read more

DO NOT BUY YOUR BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES HERE!!!! I'm part of a bridal party that had a lot of bridesmaids. We all got to pick our dresses (within the same color, fabric, designer). All of the dresses were MASSIVE. Mine would literally fall to the ground without my holding it up (and I am the exact same size as I was when I ordered it). They insisted I order 4-5 sizes above my street size, and I ultimately ordered 4 sizes above assuming that they knew best and bridal sizing is different. I have now spent $100 to reconstruct a dress that cost $275 to start. The other issue is that some girls' dresses were $100 cheaper, for no apparent reason and which was not told to us when ordering. The store was not receptive to the issue when presented over the phone and in person. read more

My wedding is on September 9th of 2016. I purchased my dress at a sample sale they had in King of Prussia in the summer of 2015. It was the first and only dress I tried on, they sold me and they were good in telling me what I wanted to hear! They told me alterations was going to be a flat fee of 550.00 but took 100.00 off because I was locked in the fitting room for an hour. The dress was filled with beading, I asked the sales rep it's a flat fee and nothing more correct? She said yep, you're correct. When I went to my first fitting in June they dropped the price of 775.00 for alterations and tried to explain to me that it was the based price. I was livid, they also said I can take it elsewhere if I wanted to. Since the fiance didn't want me to feel more upset he said he will just pay for it without the headache. SO be aware!! Never buy a sample dress cause they will charge you higher for the alterations too. The seamstress was very delightful and I love her so much. She made me feel absolutely better about the whole situation but it wasn't her call. Other than that they have been very pleasant but they will not budge if you're trying to negotiate with them. read more

I feel taken advantage of. I wanted to love my experience here but not only did I spend a fortune on my bridesmaid dress but they measured me awfully and literally I looked like I was wearing a potato sack when I tried on the dress when it arrived. When I called to express dissatisfaction they assured me that the measurements were accurate, yet all of my friends got much smaller sizes (normal to what they wear clothing wise) and they only needed a slight hem while I needed it to be taken in drastically on the entire dress in addition to the hem. They told me I could show them what it looks like in person but they said this is normal for it it be big and there wouldn't be a whole lot they could do for me. So I declined because I live too far to make that trip worthwhile. My tailor told me I was taken advantage of or was measured lazily. Now I have to spend close to half if not more on alterations for a bridesmaid dress I will only get to wear once. This was very upsetting and will warn others about getting measured there. read more

I bought my wedding dress here and would not recommend it to other brides. While everything turned out fine, it was a very unpleasant and stressful experience due to inconsiderate staff and fake management. My dress arrived two months later than originally estimated which I wasn't worried about since I had bought it well in advance of my wedding date. When I went for my first fitting it was not the dress I had ordered and was the wrong color (was pure ivory instead of the softwhite/nude I ordered). From that point on, the customer service was fake and nonchalant about the issue. They had to rush order the dress in the correct color and I had to squeeze in all of my alteration appointments at the last minute. Accidents happen but the way they handled the situation was just awful. They tried to make me feel guilty by saying things going on in the personal life of the seamstress, made one off comments about no big deal brides order late all the time (that is that brides decision what does that have anything to do with me as I ordered well in advance). I am not normally one to write reviews, but both my best friend's experience as the bride, and mine as maid of honor, were absolutely horrible. The one positive was that the woman who helped find my best friend's gown was really personable and allowed her to take all the time that she needed to try things on in store. Following this, orders were incorrect 3 separate times. I, as maid of honor had to personally call the store multiple times to correct issues that I was told were fixed each time I called. When each of us logged in to review our order, not only were the names of our bridesmaids incorrect (and we had all gone to the store for a try on appointment) but the actual dress was incorrect and was a completely different dress. Following this, we had two additional bridesmaids were listed on our order (we had never heard of these names/people before - Bridget and Sarah?) and because of this, our order was delayed because they had "not paid." I was then assured everything was fixed and that the discount the store promised was applied and luckily I called to confirm but yet again the wrong names were listed and the discount was not applied. For those buying - we have yet to get the discounted rate adjusted by Elizabeth Johns. Lastly, when I received my dress it was HUGE. The person measuring was completely inaccurate and listed my bust as 1/4 of my waist size and now the dress is 3+ sizes too large and can hardly be hemmed. I would not waste my money or time at this shop. With all that we had to monitor time and time again, it would probably be easier to make the dresses ourselves. read more

I was originally wary of the store because I am not really the "Bride" type and Suburban Square has such a snobby vibe I was a bit worried. However, Erika and the rest of the folks at Elizabeth John's really surprised me. Erika actually listened to what I was looking for and didn't push anything I didn't want or any dresses that were out of my price range. She was very knowledgeable about what alterations could be done on each dress to ensure it was what I would want and had a lot of really helpful suggestions. I ultimately ended up buying my dress here and I would definitely recommend it to other brides, even if you're not the 'bridal' type. The store IS pretty expensive (a dress that was $2900 qualified as a single $ on their website) so keep those budget numbers in mind when choosing dresses. Their website was also great b/c it has a full photo catalog of all the dresses they carry so you can pre-select some you want to try on. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Erika and the EJ's ladies for the next several months. read more

Elizabeth Johns was amazing to work with when finding my wedding dress and afterwards with the alterations. Hollie was so sweet and helpful giving me honest feedback and making sure I picked the dress that was right for me. We came up with a custom design which she assured me was possible and it was! The dress turned out gorgeous. Kathy was wonderful during alterations. She gave me tips and tricks for buying the items I needed for under the dress and listened to our feedback and fixed any issues quickly and kept an upbeat attitude. The dress fit me perfectly the day of the wedding and truly made me feel like a beautiful bride on my big day. Elizabeth Johns is a beautiful salon, so right when you walk through the door it feels special to be there. My consultant was Erika. She helped me find dresses and when I wasn't 100% about any of them, she chose one more for me to try. It was the one! Erika is so great to work with and very knowledgeable. I also had my two dress fittings with Kathy and she is just as great! She took the dress in beautifully and is so kind. I highly recommend this store and even more so recommend Erika and Kathy! Interestingly enough, Kathy has been there for a while, and she was the alteration consultant for my two cousins, and my mom (the name of the store was different at that time)!! Had an incredible experience at this store. The staff was all nice and welcoming and the dresses were beautiful. Alex helped me and she was incredible; me, my mom, my aunt, and my sister all loved her. She went through each dress with me and helped me decide one by one what I wanted to try on and why. In the end, I found a dress that I absolutely loved, and even though there were a couple things about it I wasn't crazy about, she figured out ways to tweak it and customize it to make it my dream dress. I visited the location in Ardmore, PA as the first stop in the hunt for my wedding dress. I had my mom and my maid of honor with me, and from the second we walked in we were treated like the only customers the store ever had. My consultant, Emily, came out within 2 minutes of our arriving and immediately asked me what I was looking for style-wise and walked the floor with me to help me get started. Once I had picked out about 8 or 9 dresses, she took me back to a fitting room and it became IMMEDIATELY apparent that she had a background in design; she KNOWS. HER. STUFF. She gave helpful yet unobtrusive opinions about every dress I put on. I eventually narrowed it down to 2 dresses and she helped me confirm that the one I was leaning toward was the dress for me. We had another appointment at a different shop right after, so we went to be courteous and keep the appointment, but we went straight back to Elizabeth Johns. Emily put the dress on me one more time and then the congratulations champagne flowed! To top it all off, we were then invited to go downstairs to the bridesmaid dress department, where Brielle took over. She was helpful, walked the floor with us and, unexpectedly, my maid of honor and I (along with my mother) agreed on a lovely dress that would look great on all 5 of my bridesmaids. Brielle even brought out the color swatches for the dress we picked and we were able to nail down the exact color I had been envisioning. If I could give this shop a negative score, I would. Although the consultant that helped us find and purchase my daughter's wedding dress was lovely as was the consultant that helped me find my mother of the bride dress, I'd give it a negative score because of the owner and manager. We spent over $8000 on my daughter's dress and veil. The dress I loved was $2300. I asked if they offer any discount for my dress since we spent over $8000 on my daughter and they said they don't like to "under cut the designer". I was certain the price was already marked up so they could make their profit. In expressing my disappointment in customer service, my consultant talked to the owner who again said they do not offer that, but because I was insistent she would give me 10% off the price of my dress but I had to purchase it right then. I expressed my disappointment and passed on the weak offer...WITH A MOMENTS TIME LIMIT. I was happy to purchase the exact same dress in Bala Cynwyd at a lovely boutique for $1750!! Again proving how over priced Elizabeth Johns is/was and happy I could give my business to a shop that I didn't even feel it necessary to ask about the price! Buyer beware, the owner is only interested in her bank account, not the happiness of her customers! read more

I am using them for my wedding in August. The consultant was great and personable during the visit. Some of my bridemaids bought their dresses through this boutique and others through Nordstroms. Nordstorms delivered the dresses in about a week for all the girls that ordered there with great customer service. I called Elizabeth's when I figured out the girls that ordered their dresses here had not heard back. The girls ordered in March and they told me three months, though they emphasized it never takes 3 months but they have to say it just in case it does. When I called they had the nerve to tell me the dresses were coming in July and that it was ok because that would give the girls 3 week to get them altered. Most of my girls are out of town and I knew that 3 weeks was definitely not enough time! And on average you need about 3-4 just for alterations. I went in the store and they said they would call the designer and check on the status because maybe they were just waiting for one style (again that doesn't make sense that they would hold all the dresses for one style knowing that alterations are needed and the wedding date is approaching). And no returns so I cant cancel the order and just use Nordstrom's. The manager is working on this issue so I am hoping that they can fix this and get the dresses in June and I will glady completely change this review to say that brides should just order early :) Keeping fingers crossed! read more

Absolutely the bridal salon in the Philadelphia region. I did not find my dress here but I have looked at several stores and no one offered us better service than here. From the moment I came in Alex greeted us with excitement and jumped right to it. I did have a lower budget than what is carried in store but that did not limit us because Alex went above and beyond to lol for potential dresses. By the end I was switching between two dresses and she did not mind but enjoyed helping me out toggle between dresses multiple times. Honestly I would have wished I found my dress here because the service and Alex were just so great. Disclaimer I only went to one other store after this one and found my dress but I had made an appointment to come back to Elizabeth Johns if I had no luck in the store. I received a card from Alex congratulating me and wishing me the best of luck! Thanks Alex, you're definitely the perfect consultant to made any bride to be's day! read more
