I selected the Ube, Panda & Strawberry Spongecakes. They were so good that I ate them before taking a picture- lol.
Alexis M.

Kam Hing Bakery creates & sells specialty spongecakes as well as hot & cold beverages. This location is on Baxter & is a few minutes walk from the Canal St. W/R Train Station. Thanks to Yelp Manhattan & to Kam Hing for giving up Yelpers the opportunity to have some delicious treats. Liz was kind and greeted me w/ a warm smile upon my entering the establishment. Liz explained that 3 spongecakes and a cold beverage can be selected. Following Spongecakes on the memu: Original Strawberry Coconut Green Tea Chocolate Chip Ube Pandan Kam Hing also had a nice selection of coffee, tea, lemonade, etc. Liz explained the various cold drinks options to me including the different types of flavored teas & flavored lemonade drinks. I decided to get Strawberry, Ube & Pandan spongecakes and a Peach/Pineapple Lemonade. Kam Hing keeps the fresh lemons in the lemonade & Liz shared that the jams in the lemonade make them flavorfully sweet. The spongecakes melt in your mouth & taste wonderful...they were so good that I ate them before taking any pictures-lol. The Pineapple/Peach Lemonade was delicious and refreshing and quenched my thirst on the hot-weathered day. Kam Hing is open everyday from 7am-7:30pm. newkamhing.com @newkamhing

Various flavors of sponge cake.

OMG!!! Absolutely Incredible!!! That is the description of my tastebuds as I took a bite of the pandan sponge cake! They are absolutely de-licious. The various flavors of sponge cake consists of; Original, Green tea, Strawberry, Coconut, Ube, Pandan, Butterscotch, Chocolate chip, and Mochachino. Ube is my favorite flavor in general. The Pandan was my overall favorite sponge cake. Where do I start... love that the sponge cake is perfectly flavored, and sweetened that gives each cake a perfect flavor without being overly sweet. The sponge cakes are fresh just as if they were baked in your Grandmother's kitchen. The coconut flavor sponge cake melts in your mouth, and compliments the coffee. As a coffee lover, I recommend the Viet coffee, very smooth, the texture is creamy, and on a hot summer day the Viet Iced Coffee is perfect. The atmosphere is relaxed, and great to sit to have sponge cake & coffee with a friend. Special thanks to Ms. Lucky who is very kind, and really makes the bakery special. Could not ask for a better experience. Tip: This is a very popular bakery, and flavored sponge cakes sell out quickly. Try to arrive early in the day. OMG!!! Absolutely Incredible!!! Pandan, Matcha, Chocolate Chip, Vietnamese Coffee

Friendly and efficient service. They had all their flavors available on a Sunday late morning/early afternoon. Half their flavors seem to rotate. The Sponge Cakes all have a brown sugary sweetness, which may result in the boxier shape of the sponge cake compared to the traditional cup shape. The pieces all tore off easily and were light and airy. They also hold up well for a couple days (wrapped and refrigerated). I opted for: Pandan: decent pandan flavor. It has a more custardy mouthfeel. Matcha: toasty matcha flavor. the bitterness of the matcha is balanced by the sugary sweetness. Chocolate Chip: nice hint of sweetness from the mini chocolate chips studded throughout the cake. My favorite because the sweetness matched well together. The Viet Coffee not too sweet. It seems like it's milk not condensed milk, which I like. This also helps balance out the sweetness of the cakes. Big thanks to Katey, Yelp and Kam Hing Bakery for a generous event!

Tea with Lemon and Honey with 3 sponge cakes

Yes, if you want more flavor options, you have to show up earlier than after work. The day I showed up day there were 5 flavors left (3 flavors were sold out): original, green tea, coconut, butterscotch, and cappuccino. The offer is 3 sponge cake and a drink. - I decided on 2 originals and tea with honey. Not a fan of cappuccino flavors, the butterscotch would be too sweet, and coconut is ok though prefer the original. - Tea with honey was great since it quench my thirst. This place never fails and is a staple in the Chinatown community. Thank you Katey, Yelp and Kam Hing for the opportunity!

What a hidden gem! Love how this place feels like it's been a neighborhood staple for decades. Also, where else can you find anything in NY for $1.50 now?! The sponge cake is so bouncy and fluffy, I adore the texture and it's not too sweet! The thai tea is also well made because it's not premade - that's how you can tell it's made with quali-tea. Can't wait to come back!

When I saw there was another elite week at Kam Hing, I got soooo excited. The team at Kam Hing was so so friendly and their sponge cakes are amazing! I went with a fellow YES so we shared bites and drinks. The Thai Coffee was so delightfully sweet and the hibiscus tea was very refreshing for a hot summer day. We got an "original" fresh out of the oven which we both agreed was definitely the move. We also got the last Butterscotch of the day which was a nice sweet flavor. Chocolate chip was fun too and I'm sure just as good as the original when it's freshly made. Honestly, all flavors were amazing! Big thanks to the team at Kam Hing for the generosity and to Katey/Yelp for coordinating!

I was kind of having a tough time looking for this because I thought the location changed for some reason. But knowing that I've been here before, I shouldn't be lost! I saw the sign that Kam Hing Bakery was downstairs because of the down arrow. Then I accidentally went inside an adult day care center and there was a flight of stairs to go down and I was shocked to not see the bakery there. Then I had to head back out and look for it. Then after a few minutes I finally found the exact location sitting inside 118 Baxter Street building in the lobby. This bakery is hiding in the building. The bakery itself has a lot of art work and posters all scattered around. It is a busy bakery and I remember going inside that the Sponge cakes were mostly sold out for most flavors. Original was still the only flavor standing. Today I asked for the strawberry, green tea, and Thai tea and amazingly they still had those flavors in stock. I guess I went there at noon so they got most flavors in stock. They got many tea options and drinks so I got a cold Thai tea. You can taste the Thai tea really well. It is somewhat bitter in this drink with the sugar. A nice bakery though for sponge cakes. I saw the kitchen making lots of sponge cakes sitting on the counter. They are so busy! Thank you Katey and Yelp for this experience.

Thank you Yelp for all these summer events!! Heard about Kam Hing before but never got to try until now. Their chiffon cakes are fluffy yet chewy and even better after reheating at home. The original is classic with the slighty sweet egg taste, and probably still is my favorite. The ube is a close second because of its strong flavors. The pandan unfortunately did not have much of a pandan aroma. The viet coffee was solid - sweet and strong. Staff were friendly. Menu was straightforward to navigate. I love the space with tables, chairs, and TV. It feels like a pseudo community center but lots of socializing and chilling amongst the older folks, but also a nice place to take a break for everyone else. Thanks again Kam Hing and Yelp!!

Thank you Katey G, Kam Hing Bakery and Yelp for this event. Staffs were friendly. You give your name by the counter and you get to choose different flavors of sponge cakes. I got the matcha, butterscotch and original with a drink of your choice. Great choice for Chinatown nostalgic memories ! Support local small businesses! Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: 5/5

Kam Hing Bakery's Awesome (from left) Original, Pandan and Ube Pound Cakes, along with an Unsweetened Green Thai Iced Tea (with Milk)

Giant thank you to Katey G., the Yelp team, and Kam Hing Bakery for arranging this event! Excited to try Kam Hing Bakery since I've passed its corner of Baxter St. thousands of times while on Canal Street, but the entrance is relatively inconspicuous from there... especially now with the scaffolding. They recommended an Original pound cake, since they are continually made throughout the day, so got one of those. Also, opted for a Pandan and Ube one, along with an unsweetened Green Thai ice tea! Decided to sit down and enjoy it there. Everything was fantastic and all these in-house baked Pound Cakes were soft and delicious, but my favorite was that warm out of the oven, yummy Original! (I'd suggest others try the same, especially if it's super fresh like mine!) Note - If you're looking for additional fun while downtown for this sensational Taiyaki event, check out my review and pics of nearby Jeffrey Deitch's 18 Wooster St. Gallery's absolutely amazing "Carnival" Show! Keep in mind this exhibit closes June 28th! Again, thanks everyone at Yelp and Kam Hing! Definitely will recommend to others checking out their delcious pound cakes!

I love the sponge cakes from Kam Hing Bakery and I'd just brought my dad here when he was visiting recently. He really enjoyed them and I was thinking I should've gotten more, so this was a great opportunity. Thank you to Kam Hing Bakery, Yelp and Katey! I love the original sponge cakes, but decided to try the cappuccino and matcha as well. We were also offered a drink, so I got a small hot honey ginger tea. They have some tables inside, where I sat for a bit to enjoy one of the sponge cakes and my drink. The other two, I brought home to enjoy tomorrow. I like heating them up in my oven toaster for a fresh out of the oven taste. Looking forward to trying the other two.

This was another great event! I was able to get in early to pick up some of the sponge cakes and a drink! They didn't ask me what flavors, so all of them are the original sponge cakes. The shop is pretty large with decent seating area and they have an ample amount of drinks and space. It's a neat spot that I will return to!

Arrived here a little after 10 am on Sunday. The lady at the counter was very nice and friendly. I asked for Thai Tea which was really tasty! She told me to let her know if I wanted it to be sweeter, but it was just perfect. Sweet but not overly sweet. For sponge cakes, I chose Pandan, Ube, and Pinapple. They all had beautifully bright colors. The pineapple had a great aroma of pineapple as soon as I tore it into two. As Pandan and Ube don't really have noticeable aroma, so I didn't expect them to have any aroma. The sponge cakes were so light and airy, incredibly soft like holding a piece of a cloud in my hand. They all had great flavor, and although light, it was filling. What a great spot to get a little snack that is tasty and filling! Thank you Yelp, Katey, and everyone at Kam Hing Cafe for this tasty event!

I came here around noon and the place haven't been filled up yet but that was truly toward my benefit as my waiter, Jeff was extra attentive (yay me!). He offered me both brunch and regular menu and was very friendly and eager to assist me if I needed it. After making all my choices, he complimented and said I made good choices and whether if that was true or not, it made me felt happy. Lol. All of the food portion were huge. I ordered their wings as my appetizer, shrimp/bacon taco for entrée and tres leche for dessert. With that they also offered me some fresh fried taco with homemade salsa that was really delicious and made me wanting more even though I had to pace myself. Presentation wise, it was all instagramable. They restaurant is very conscious about presentation so that was a huge plus. As for taste, it was all good. I especially enjoy my shrimp/bacon taco as it was huge and those trio-side sauce (hot sauce, green sauce and pumpkin sauce) was just outright slamming. As for portion it was larger then life, especially for one person. Honestly I think it could feed two people as I ended up taking half of it home. Overall, I enjoyed myself, felt really relaxed, enjoyed their playlist and especially my waiter, Jeff that help tied my experience with Tiny Cantina in nicely. A bit bland. But the service was great. Our server was so nice. We got the highly instagramable pizza. It was lovely and very filling but couldn't done with a feels radishes. The event itself was unique in a lot of ways! Hosted within a small gallery space in the LES, it featured both pictures and snippets from reviews related to restaurants in the neighborhood. After hearing presentations from some members of the corporate team it was clear that the event was organized to promote restaurants in the area, as well as Yelp's reservation platform. What was really awesome is that Yelp also donated $250 for every restaurant that had a representative show up to City Harvest, which is New York City's largest food rescue organization, feeding the more than 1.2 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables. They also had a great spread for us to enjoy! Chicken skewers, a diverse cheese platter, and marinated beef made for some savory snacks. They also had a selections of beverages for people to enjoy while browsing throughout the space. Overall a really unique and interesting event! These three items where under $30 all together, and was grateful to get to be a part of this YEE experience! Shoutout to the Brooklyn Yelp Team! The chicken spring roll was bouncy, and the chicken inside looked like a chicken wing; very visually satisfying. The peanut dipping sauce was very flavorful and deep in umami. A great addition to the meal; highly recommend! I couldn't get over how packed my beef brisket pho was! I've been to some places that have way more broth than the noodles ratio, and this place made it 1:1. Saturday Brunch-In in Throggs Neck!…read more Lena Trattoria has been in the "Neck" for two years and they have made their mark. As they continue to respond to customers' feedback they are introducing a new Luxe Brunch menu and we were granted the opportunity to check it out. On a warm Saturday afternoon we arrived and were greeted by Shah. With our plus 1's we were checked-in and then grabbed seats. As we perused the new brunch menu we also had the opportunity to take in the design of the place. Very fresh and aesthetically pleasing with a modern design. Lena, gives an open yet intimate vibe. They have the perfect back drop for a group or date night. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful as we all made our selection for the 3 courses. While there is ample to choose from, a couple of observations, there wasn't many protein options especially for people like me whom do not eat red meat or pork. As well as there were no side items listed even for an a-la-carte charge. However, I'm sure you can order additional items. The service was great even when they fell a little behind. The entertainment was amazingly perfect, a saxophonist who did his damn thing! The food was good a the drinks were flowing. Personally, I would have liked more continuity between all three courses. If you don't pick wisely you will end up with a carb-heavy meal. Without realizing it serval dishes have bread. Which is not bad, I love me some bread, but by the end it was too much. Again it's because I should have paid closer attention to my selections. I selected the lobster roll to start, fresh and nice flavor, however filling to bread ratio was not balanced. This could have just been an oversight because of the size of our event. I went with the french toast for my main course and it was perfect. While it was available, no syrup was needed. Again with no side options for a protein, they were nice enough to allow me to order grilled chicken breast. Sounds like a weird combo, but with limited options available for me, it went well. The chicken was flavorful, nicely seasoned and surprisingly very tender and juicy. Lastly for dessert I opted for the bread pudding (again my fault... too much bread). It was tasty but capacity had been reached, so I only had a nibble. Brunch @ Lena's was a lovely treat and an amazing sit down event. Thank you to the oh so fab Shah! To the manger, staff, and owners of Lena Trattoria for both their hospitality and generosity. Just A Note: Lena Trattoria gives you the vibe of a restaurant in city without the congestion pricing. The only downside was that there weren't many substitutions available for those who don't eat pork, which was a bit of a letdown. We mentioned it to the manager, and they were kind enough to make other provisions for us, but it would've been nice if those options were already available. A few items didn't include any protein, and there wasn't an option to add sides, which would've been a great touch. The drinks were fantastic because they were fresh, flavorful, and regularly refilled. And Absolutely awesome live music! It created such a fun, lively atmosphere that had everyone smiling and even dancing a little. I've enjoyed dinner here several times, but now I'm so happy to have them as a go-to brunch spot too!

Beer, Bourborn, and BBQ 2012 - what the hell happened last night?…read more Good God, exactly how much booze did I drink last night? I honestly don't even remember leaving or saying goodbye to anyone. My bad, but when one is presented with a ridiculously unlimited amount of good craft beers and terrific bourbons your mind kinda gets erased. My hangover has finally subsided and the JACKHAMMER has been removed from my brain. I do have to say right off the bat that I think they oversold the event a bit this year. Sure, it was packed, and very crowded, but not so much so that you could not get a glass of beer or bourbon quickly throught the venue. Our group drank A LOT before we even decided to get some grub in our bellies. We even hit up a bourbon tasting class where one who shall remain nameless pretty much spilled everything onto her crotch. I even bought a viking helmet hat to wear. Drunken fun times! The food lines were another story - ridiculously long and slow moving. Sure, I had some decent pulled pork from one stand right out of a pig carcass, but the best was from the Kloby's BBQ booth where the line was the longest. Gotta give it to Monique R for holding her ground on that long line amid some drunken fools and line cutters to secure a few plates of amazingly tasty hush puppies, pulled pork and coleslaw sandwiches, and pork rib wings. Worth the wait even though it cut into our drinking time, but we needed to eat something to help soak up all the alcohol. Our group had a great time. There were so many terrific beers and bourbons on hand. Many of the staff would even fill your tasting glass to the brim. All you could consume for four hours - wonderful or insanity - it's all how you look at it. So worth it when paying half price, 2 for 1 tickets, or discounted tickets. You have to be a noob to pay full price for any of these events as there are always offers on different websites with big discounts. But to charge $3 for the coat check is kind of a money grab, even though it was nice to ditch our heavy winter gear. We came, we drank, we ate pork, we pillaged and plundered. Looking forward to doing it all over again next year. Oh, and kids, here's a tip for you all. When you are totally blasted outta your mind on bourbon and beer it's not really a great time for an Italian-Norwegian to fight with your Russian-Polish fiance' out on the street. There is just too much stubborn hard headedness in that combination for any good to come out of it.

Like every food tasting event you go to in NYC, get there early and hit up all the food lines before they get really long later on (usually 2 hrs in). Plus you need food to soak all the alcohol you're going to drink. The highlight of the night was definitely the whole hog. They also have brisket, pork belly, bacon, fried chicken/waffles, wings, bread pudding, and cornbread. There were definitely more beer vendors than bourbon vendors. The beers were mainly local from New York and East Coast breweries. I liked the high end bourbons since they went down smoother and didn't totally burn my throat. You will definitely eat and drink enough in the time so then you go home to pass out from barbecue coma.

Absolutely recommend this place! The ambiance right away pays homage to the Filipino culture. The…read moretropical design, the shack bar, and the big screen playing Filipino movies were all done respectfully. The drinks were also so good. We ordered an ube horchata and mango float Food wise, we ordered the bbq skewers, the mushroom sisig, the lumpia (egg rolls) and the beef tapa. Everything was artfully prepared, and nothing tasted too salty or overwhelming, which I liked. The staff and manager were so lovely and accommodating. The manager even took time to chat with us after and tell us about how he came to Kalye. Only thing, the food is a bit pricy ($24 for the sisig, for example). Nonetheless, it's a night out! If you're hesitant, don't be! Give it a try.

Huge thanks to Yelp NYC and Hailey for this wonderful Yelp Elite Experience. I've been to Kalye's…read moreother location on Broome Street, but this was my first intro to their Rivington location. I must say I was really impressed by the space, décor and ambience. The check-in and pickup was so smooth. It was a hard choice, but I ended up with the Beef Tapa and Fried Lumpia for the comp meal. And after perusing the menu, I also ordered the Sliders and Pork Skewers. The food smelled so good that I ended up scarfing down one of the Lumpia on my walk to the subway. The Lumpia was easily my favorite out of the items I took home. They come 6 pieces per order and were massive, easily double the size of normal Lumpia. The Beef Tapa came with rice, fried egg and slices of tomatoes and cucumbers. The meat was flavorful, and this was a hearty dish. The items I paid for were also quite good. The sliders came two per order in the bright purple Ube buns. So very tasty. The Pork Skewers were great and paired well with the vinegar dipping sauce. I honestly think that I prefer this location over their Broome St location. The food just tasted better. I noticed that previous reviews for this Experience mentioned that they were given Yelp bags with their order. Unfortunately, I didn't get one. I went on the last day of the Experience so I think they must have run out. Nevertheless, I'm so grateful to have gotten this delicious meal. Thank you so much Kalye for your generosity.
