What can I say about Dr. Ellie and Elite Endodontics other than they are AMAZING? I received a referral for a consultation exam on a tooth that I had a previous root canal on several years ago, and I was expecting to hear that the tooth needed to be extracted and was unsalvageable. However, that was definitely not the case. I received a phone call the day my referral was made to set up my exam and confirm my insurance information in advance. Upon arrival at the office, I was able to park in the building's garage and avoid the limited outside parking due to Stonestown Mall. As soon as I got upstairs (2nd floor), I was greeted by the wonderful receptionist, who quickly handed me an iPad to fill out my information. This was a pleasant surprise, as you often have to handwrite your information on paper at other offices. As soon as I had filled out the information and handed it back to the receptionist, Rosie, the dental assistant at the office, called me in. She quickly confirmed my details and took the needed X-rays. They used a new 3D CBCT machine to take a full X-ray of my mouth. It was swift and painless. (Have you ever had to bite down on those metal bars when doing a typical dental X-ray?), Immediately after completing the X-rays, I was escorted to another room, where I could sit down and relax while I waited for Dr. Ellie to arrive. She was busy with another patient, but made sure to stop by to greet me and let me know she would be right back. After my consultation and exam were completed, Dr. Ellie was able to explain everything happening with my mouth via the 3D X-ray and advised that she could immediately start the root canal if I chose to. It was refreshing that the office had pre-planned the availability to immediately handle the needed dental treatment without requiring me to make another appointment in the future. I obviously chose to proceed with the root canal at that moment, and I was done within an hour. Dr. Ellie and Rosie were so kind and explained everything to me to build the confidence I needed, as I am usually scared of dental visits, and my anxiety can increase. The actual root canal surgery was easy compared to the last time. Dr. Ellie applied multiple shots of Novocain to the affected area, ensuring I would be pain-free. She continually checked on my pain level and overall condition throughout the procedure. After it was completed, she took the time to review the after-care instructions in-depth. She provided guidance on managing the expected pain after the Novocain wore off, as well as what to do between the visit and my follow-up with my primary dentist for the crown placement next week. She even provided me with a textable number for after-hours needs in case of emergency or questions. I cannot say enough about Dr. Ellie and her team. Update: over 2 months later they contacted me saying I still had not paid the full amount of my procedure. I was confused since I paid out of pocket over 1K (that seemed like too much) and insurance covered 60%. They stated that My insurance didn't pay the amount they thought they would and I owed them the rest. I thought this was bad practice to come back over a month or two later to the client and ask for more money. Especially considering all the tech issues and waiting I dealt with during my appointment/ procedure. This doesn't seem professional or right but I decided to pay the rest off over time, they have been patient & understanding about that. I don't understand why this costs so much for one tooth. The receipts are messed up so I cannot see the itemized amounts of what each cost is. read more

Unfortunately, I needed a root canal. I was in tremendous pain that was not going away. I was worried about many aspects of the situation. Dr. Ellie was able to fit me in via referral. I was very impressed with the crisp and clean look and feel of the office and technology in the rooms when we went through the initial assessment. Dr. Ellie walked me through her findings and concerns along with how best to move forward on the immediate needs and what we should think about in the longer term. Working through the procedure, she was careful and thoughtful throughout and made the best of not a fun chunk of work. She explained what made sense to explain during her work without slowing everything down. She reaffirmed status at critical points to provide calm and confidence for me that I was in good hands and the findings of the assessment work were very worth it. Dental work is not all that comfortable so I really care if the Dr. is responsive to our pain cues and she was very responsive . Yes knowledgable DR.....But!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was hit in the head with ct then realized my hairlip was still in while he already took one ct! then had to do another. ((THIS WAS AFTER A PRIOR CT in another office)) when the cd and memory stick did not work from referring dr. THEN....his staff charged me and my insurance when they said they would not bill. So Yes the Dr is Great knew he could not help me. Paid $200 for visit. Basically got referred in circles paid periodondentist then was referred to this dr only to be referred again. His office is very nice but Dr showed up to work at time of my appt. then rushed thru everything after that so I guess that is why I was billed and zapped? I had a huge crack in one of my molar. My tooth was sensitive for a week. My dentist referred me to Dr. Shadmehr for a root canal treatment. Dr. Shadmehr is amazing. She checked my tooth and it had a huge cavity, but ended up not needing a root canal. Dr. Shadmehr did a filling on my tooth instead. She is more than an endodontist. The whole experience was great. This should be a ZERO star review due to the horrible reception, communication, lack of clarity and questionable business practices I suffered here. I reached out to this clinic with the need for a root canal on my molar 18. I had recently went to another dentist to perform the root canal, however he was unable to as he could not get my tooth numb to do the procedure during his attempt. He then recommended that I go to a dentist who could provide sedation. The website to Elite Endodontists states they can provide this. When I called to set up my appointment, the receptionist Mackenzie constantly interrupted and over talked me during the call. I explained to her my situations and she told me that what my last dentist said didn't matter as she was confident Dr. Shadmehr would be able to get me numb without sedation. She acted as if I was ignorant and had no idea what I was talking about. This should have been enough warning to not book my appointment, however at this point I was getting pretty desperate so I set up my appointment. My primary dentist also sent over all of the x-rays and notes needed to perform my root canal without anything extra needed at all. Mackenzie immediately told me that I had to have a cone beam CT scan on my jaw to complete my root canal. She then stated that it cost $300 and isn't usually covered by insurance. I told her that I didn't have the money for that and I didn't need or want it as my dentist sent over everything needed to perform the procedure already. When I told her this, she became very agitated and made the entire encounter extremely uncomfortable and awkward. She then told Dr. Shadmer that I didn't want to do it. I wasn't able to hear her response clearly but she must have told Mackenzie to take an x-ray of my tooth. She then came and sat in the room and pointed at the x-rays and told me that she can't operate on my tooth without the Cone Beam CT scan cause it would be like operating on my tooth blind. (Absolutely Ludacris as my dentist already sent over everything needed. A fact backed up by the previous dentist attempting to perform my root canal but unable to numb me adequately.) She insinuated that she would not perform the procedure without the scan and forced me to do it even beyond my protests to both Mackenzie and herself that I didn't want to do it and I didn't have the money extra money saved for that scan. It was a ridiculously horrific situation for a dental professional to put someone who was desperate for help through for the sake of being able to get more money out of myself and my insurance. Finally, after they forced me to sit through that Cone Beam CT scan, Dr. Shadmehr came in and ran through the scan with me and told me that the scan showed that the canals to my nerves were "blocked" and she had to drill through them to clear them out. Then she immediately began to numb my tooth. Of course as I first stated when I called in and again told her before she started, the previous dentist was not able to numb me completely and recommended that I get sedated. Not surprisingly she wasn't able to numb my tooth either and told me that she was going to have to drill through my tooth till she broke through to my nerve and I was going to feel it completely until that happened... Once she was in, she could numb the nerve. She asked if that was okay, at this point my tooth was half drilled into and so I gritted and I bore the sensation of not being numb while getting a root canal till she broke through to the nerve. Luckily she worked fast so the horrific pain was short lived. Then once she numbed my nerve, she asked me if Mackenzie had told me what the costs would be, which no she had not. She then acted frustrated and had Mackenzie come in and explain to me what this procedure was going to cost me, including the $300 for the Cone beam scan and an extra $725 for the "blocked" canals she was able to derive from that scan, so an extra $1,025 of unnecessary charges that i was forced into paying. Insurance covers neither. Why? because they are unnecessary. Even though both Mackenzie and Dr. Shadmer demanded it be performed. I am 1000% confident this was solely money gauging. What makes this worse is it's done on people who are desperate for help and they made it seem as if they would refuse to do the work without it. They didn't outright say it, but they insinuated it. Well of course I didn't budget for the 1100 copay they told me I had to pay right then. So as I lay there having just felt every millimeter of her drilling into my nerve canal, Dr. Shadmehr acted frustrated and mad at me because they didn't tell me the costs until I was in this state. I let her know the amount I could pay that day which was $600. I could pay the remainder the next week, which I did. I've never been so traumatized nor felt so taken advantage of. I will dissuade everyone within my reach from being taken advantage of by this questionable dental practice. Shame on both of you. read more

She took a CT scan and saw the problem, and did a root canal retreatment right then, and called my dentist to discuss the case with him. a toothache, followed by a dental visit revealed some unpleasant news that i would need a root canal and would need to be seen by an endodontist. i was referred by my dentist to elite endo and scheduled an appointment 1 week out. day before the appointment i spoke to dr shadmehr who went over various details about the procedure and most important to me what the estimated out of pocket expense will be with some caveats such that i wont be surprised on if certain scenarios occur cost could increase. the office is located right across from stonestown mall and has its own parking garage which makes things very convient. my 1st impression upon entering this office is it is very clean, refreshing and is pretty much new. prior to the procedure, dr shadmehr reviewed in detail problem areas with my tooth, how the procedure will be done and provided her opinion on what may be the next course of action after the root canal is completed. she did an excellent job on explaining things related to this procedure in laymen's terms to where i felt very comfortable proceeding w/ the work. the procedure went as smooth as i would expect for a root canal. it has been years since i have had a root canal and was pretty shocked on how efficient the dr went through the procedure. having done 2 other root canals i would have to say this particular visit was as comfortable as it could be for a procedure that nobody looks forward to. in summary: good parking, convenient location clean office the dr is very nice, thorough, very attentive to the patient's needs communication of charges were very clear and transparent and dr shadmehr settled all nerves(removed some as well :) ) and concerns i had related to this procedure.
