We signed a contract for a construction project located at our primary property on May 6, 2024 with…read moreCarolina Contracting and Investment, Inc. The contract was signed with Glenn Wise located at 1632 Village Harbor Dr., Lake Wylie, SC. 28710. The project was to remove the roof of the 3-car detached garage extend the 3-car garage to six car garage and build a 2-bedroom 2 bath above the detached garage. Once the contract was signed by Mr. Wise, he turned over the construction of the project to Andrew Neweth, project manager and Art Regnier, supervisor. There were several problems with the construction project: The electrical for the detached project was to run through our Primary Dwelling, which already existed. We were told by Carolina Contracting that the county would not approve. However, the county did approve, but the concrete contractor had already poured the garage floor. This did not allow the placement of electrical in the detached garage. This was additional project cost to owner. The next issue was that the patio door was to be 12 foot wide but the Project Manager ordered and installed a 9 foot. The master bath was to have a walk- in tub. The framer was not told by contractor and framing was installed and installing of walk-in tub could not done. The front of the original detached garage was removed and the existing brick was cleaned of mortar and placed in yard. I asked the brick contractor why they did not use the removed cleaned brick. The contactor indicated that he was not told to install the brick. This was a cost to the owner for cleaning of brick. The biggest concern is the exterior brick that was installed. I had raised the concern back in January 2025. The brick ordered was manufactured by Triangle brick. The name that was ordered was Southampton. The original supply of brick was correct. The brick contractor ordered a second delivery of brick; however, it did not match the first supply of brick. He ordered a third order of brick, but again that supply did not match the original order. The brick contractor had the original order and the third order removed from property and used the Second order to complete project. The brick contractor was insisting that the brick would be a closer match after being pressure washed. There was a brick stainer that came out to our property several times to stain the brick. This process did not work and I was not satisfied with results. A contact from Carolina Brick and Material, brick supplier, came out to the property and asked how did the stainer perform his work. After we talked, he indicated that the end result was not acceptable. The color of the detached structure is lighter than the Primary dwelling. This looks bad and does not match the original structure. We were told by Glenn Wise that there would not use the contractors for Electrical, Plumbing and Concrete/block in future. The overall project was far from acceptable. There was no supervision from Glenn Wise, Andrew and Art. We would NOT hire Carolina Contractor and Investment again

Rather than stating that they're great to work with (which they truly are) let me elaborate on my actual experience. Given I was seeking to remodel an existing porch structure in a pretty significant way, I initially enlisted the services of a structural engineering firm to create drawings for me. Thereafter, I began interviewing prospective contractors to perform the work laid out in the drawings and was quite surprised at the relative indifference and/or opposition shown by several contractors toward the existence of the plans - most claimed there wasn't a need for them or attempted to tell me how engineers just overcomplicate things. Paul, on the other hand, was actually delighted to know that I had these engineering plans in hand and went over them with me at our very first meeting. He was intelligent enough to realize that if he followed the engineering drawings, as laid out; he would have no issues in getting the project through the county code enforcement process which would be a win for both him, as a contractor, and me, as the client. Paul takes a lot of pride in his work and he works hard to please his customers. By nature, I am a very particular individual; and being a Realtor by profession, makes me even more so. Paul took all of my feedback in stride and did everything he could to meet my exacting standards. There were days when I literally hovered over him and his team; more so to learn from them (given my profession) rather than to supervise - but I'm quite sure this couldn't have been a lot of fun for him and the crew. In the few instances where my expectation on certain things happened to exceed the underlying project scope; Paul was very diplomatic in pointing this out to me and we quickly found common ground such that I wasn't compromising his profit margins and was able to fulfill my desires. I also wanted a proper estimate on the front end; as well as, a full paper trail of the project - including change orders - which Paul readily supplied. Paul's pricing was fair and the project was completed within the cost margins of error and project timeline I had planned for. I had a vision for what the porch would look like when completed and Paul provided a lot of good feedback in making my vision a reality. We talked through a lot of different things like material choices, design, electrical outlet locations etc. I'll conclude by saying Paul is just a genuinely good person....period; and anyone who opts to work with him is in good hands. We had a very disappointing experience with Meridian DesignBuild. I want to be fair because not…read moreeverything about the process was negative. In the beginning, Joe was personable, responsive, and the initial meetings gave us confidence that we had found the right contractor for a major home renovation. Unfortunately, things changed once we started making payments. As the project progressed, the estimated square footage of our remodel seemed to shrink while the overall price continued to increase. We continued making payments because we believed we were close to having finalized plans, but there always seemed to be another delay or another step before everything would be complete. Joe did provide us with a nearly complete set of architectural plans, but the kitchen design process was outsourced to someone in another country. Coordinating meetings across time zones was difficult, and we were asked to make our final payment before we had even completed our final kitchen design consultation or reviewed the finished plans. Looking back, that was our mistake, and I take responsibility for that. As interest rates rose and construction costs continued increasing, we decided to put the project on hold. Rather than walk away entirely, we asked if the approximately $20,000 we had already paid could be applied toward a smaller renovation project in the $40,000-$50,000 range. Joe declined, explaining that our deposit had already covered the time and work invested in developing the plans. After further discussion, he agreed to apply only $1,000 toward a future project. I understand that design work has value and that contractors deserve to be paid for their time. My frustration isn't that I expected everything back. It's that throughout the process I often felt pressured to continue making payments with the promise that we were almost at the finish line, only for another delay or another reason to come up. By the end, I no longer felt like we were dealing with someone who was looking out for us as clients. Everyone's experience may be different, but if you're considering Meridian DesignBuild, I would strongly recommend making sure every phase of the design process is complete, all plans are finalized, and you fully understand how your deposits can be used before making additional payments.

She was very accommodating to my busy & early schedule. I can't express enough the communication. Sarah texted me the morning of my appointment providing me with the contractor name and confirming the time again. Contractor Steven was very professional, knowledgeable and timely. We worked with Jose on the redesign and options for materials. He and his crew did the job exactly as they described they would. They showed up on time and completed the work in one day. We were so happy! They did a great job with all the important details such as replacing the lattice and the stairs. Two months later, we asked them to come back and stain it for us. They did an awesome job with this as well. We could not have been more pleased with their responsiveness, attention to detail, work ethic, and the overall quality of their work. It is so refreshing to work with pleasant people who are so responsive and great at what they do!
