This is helpful because it makes it easier for the coach to focus on you. Speaking of coaching, Coach Ali runs the gym and is amazing! He focuses on fundamentals and the science of boxing. For example, he teaches realistic combinations, tactics, and movements that translate to sparring. That's what really separates this gym from others! Other gyms tend to teach flashy moves that will only work against an unskilled opponent. I want to say this place is not for everyone but not in a bad way. Let me explain. At warrior, you will be pushed no matter your skill level. Beginner? They will tailor a workout or technique to you and expect as much from you as one of the Muay Thai fighters or purple belt BJJ guys/gals. The coaches genuinely care about you. Coach Angie, Coach Larry and Coach Noel are the best martial arts teachers I have had and I have trained at a few other gyms. They are experienced (with many professional fights under their own belt) and they are able to pass that knowledge on. But once again, you will be pushed. You will want to quit. Did you just do an hour of high intensity kickboxing? Awesome but guess what? There will be cardio at the end. It is hard because they want you to succeed and Warrior FC and the Warrior Family is not about mediocrity. They want you to be the best. Period. I have made amazing friends here, friends that will drive 2-3 hours to watch you fight, then hangout with you and eat pizza in the middle of the night so you can celebrate your finished weight cut. I would jump in the ring against pretty much anyone if my coaches said "we have a game plan". Maybe I drank the kool aid, but from experience you will not regret coming here. It will show you lots about yourself, you will meet amazing people (from the fighters to more casual goers, everyone is friendly and helpful), and you will get in shape and learn self defense. As for training, I came to Alex and Jess from a traditional Okinawan karate background and found that they were able to identify some of the habits of the style right away. A friend at work invited me to join him in a men's strength training group led by Joe Ramirez. The first couple of weeks I felt a little clumsy and off balance. But Joe was right there correcting my form, encouraging me, and soon I felt more in control of my body movement during the workouts. After 3 months not only did I find my clothes fitting more comfortably, my posture improved dramatically, but with a stronger core, my running speed has also improved. I recently set a new personal record on the incline of 31 minutes and 24 seconds. My only regret is having avoided core strength training for so many years. I wish I had found Joe a long time ago.
