Their menu is also so plant-based friendly! For example, they've got avocado toast with lemon, sunflower sprouts, pickled onions, and everything seasoning on thick cut sourdough that you can get with tofu or vegan sausage if you want. And there's sandwiches like The Caesar Wrap (tofu, chopped romaine, crispy garlic chickpeas, vegan parm, and vegan house caesar dressing) and The TLT (tofu, lettuce, tomato, vegan mayo, and avocado "for fun" [from their website]). But when I visited (which was around 10am on a weekday) every. single. thing. was. out. Vegan cheese? Out. Vegan sausage? Out. Avocado? Out. I asked what they could make me, and the option was a breakfast sandwich with a tofu egg (which they had only one of left somehow), spinach, tomato, and house pesto. I left with my sandwich to head back to Portland, took a big bite when I was on the highway, and immediately spit it out - the pesto was brown, rancid, and so bitter the sandwich was inedible. If I had been anywhere near the market, I would have turned around and said something because clearly the pesto was old and - it seems like - they really do care about their customer and product. I think I came on an off day, I really do. When I'm in the area next, I'll stop by and try again. I told him that I photograph lobsters and said that I don't eat them. Michael was completely attentive, enthusiastic and engaging. Aside from the most hospitable welcome, the deli attendant was quite helpful. That particular Hannaford's has a much warmer, cleaner and calm ambiance than does the Hannaford's where I live in Sanford. My visit to your Madbury Hannaford's makes me want to live in that community. It was the kind of positive experience that makes me feel welcome in a community. I recently saw Michael out and about in Dover, NH and he remembered me. I plan to relocate to the Madbury area. Wonderful!

First - my roommate and I visited Trader Joe's right after moving to Portsmouth. The cashier looked at our IDs since we were buying wine, and when she found out that we had just moved to the area, she gave us a reusable bag as a welcome gift. We were so touched by this welcome and really appreciated the gesture as we had just arrived and were starting to settle in. Second, and most recently, my partner and I were picking up a couple of items on a Sunday night. We went to get in the checkout line and then remembered that we needed to grab one more thing. Just then, the bagging attendant told us "I'll open another lane for you guys" to which we responded that we needed to grab another thing. He told us it was not a problem and he'd be ready when we got back, and returned to bagging. We went, got our item, and upon our return to the checkout line, the attendant immediately opened up another lane. Although this may seem small, I was so appreciative that the attendant not only wanted to improve our experience initially, but cared enough to keep an eye on us while we picked up another item and opened up another lane for us as soon as we returned. I felt that it truly went above and beyond and I wish I remembered his name to give him a shoutout. I would be remiss if I concluded this review with no mention of the Trader Joe's food. Their frozen meals are amazing and all of their food is so high quality; I've never had a product that disappointed.
