Pennington Photo

No longer in business. William Pennington is one of the the…read moreold west's best photographers and his treasures are scarce and limited within private collections and museums. Original first generation photos will come up for auctions on rare occasions and an 8x10 Boudoir size can fetch $600-$3000 and larger formats command many thousands. Pennington's worked the first half of the 20 century through the mid and still shot photos up until the end of the century. His pieces were mainly of natives from the four corners region. He partnered with Orr and Dyke for many years with whom both were experts in showing the grande beauty in point of view shots of a town, park, monument or site and both had keen eyes in finding the right spot to set their camera up for an awe inspiring shot that every visiting tourist would likely purchase in the form of a post cards like those printed the most of Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde. Pennington May have used a similar back drop as in the famous Ship Rock scene with the 2 Navajos on horseback, but his focus was in the forefront and in the cultural aspect of these people showing remains of a nomadic life now ratcheted in by fences and whose culture slipping now as it does today yet more progressively dominated by western civilization. William Pennington's focused on the humanity of the humans he chose, while giving us viewers a window into the soul of those he chose by use of everyday characteristics that portray their lives. A potential buyer is soon a collector yearning for his work.

I recently went in to this camera store called Great Western Camera in Montrose Colorado. I was…read morelooking for a specific Canon camera battery called the LP-e6. I called in and asked the owner, Bob, specifically if they had a Canon version lp-e6. He said yes. I went in and purchased the battery to find out it was off brand battery. The battery was 64.xx at the store that included tax. The same battery online is $7.99. Next, I call the owner asking for a return as I am not satisfied with the product, he then tells me he doesn't do returns. I ask him if I can get store credit and order the Canon one. It's more work for him and it's going to cost more. Little did I know the Canon version of the battery retails online for $60.00 with free shipping. Bob the owner proceeds to charge me a total of around $100 so far for this battery. I ask him if he can ship it to me and he does. Well, he tried to at least. He sent it out on December 3rd and over a month later I still don't have the battery. I finally called today to see what is going on and come to find out there was a problem with shipping. They got the package back without telling me that it had been undeliverable. Thanks for letting your customer know. On the phone with him today I ask if he could ship again and he said no that it would cost too much and he didn't want to do it. I can't come in as I am out of state and it's at least 6 hours drive away from anyone else I know who is close. I had to give him my card number AGAIN to have him ship the battery to me in Colorado. So now it's going to be around $110-$115 for a battery that costs $60.00 online. I am not happy with any of the customer service I received from Bob or his co-workers. This has been a frustrating mess and has left me without a lot of money and without a battery. On the phone specifically Bob told me not to make him feel guilty about sending the package out. You think he would take care of his customers concerns and problems instead of letting the customer do all the work. I would not recommend this store as the products are outdated, the customer service is non-existent. As much as it pains me to say this, it's better off not going local, there are more products online and in other stores than Great Western Camera.
