His adjustments were huge for a temporary issue, but he helped me develop a process to approaching my sport from a recovery & wellness perspective that actually helped all areas of my life. I came in the summer of 2013 before my senior year of High school with issues with pretty substantial pain, inflammation, and tightness. He made some pretty important adjustments for the time. But he also taught me how to stretch properly, and to relax and naturally drop into a stretch. Using your parasympathetic nervous system vs. forcing into a stretch (sympathetic). This was all in 3 appointments, in one week when I was on vacation, with a huge impact on my career. Before meeting him, I was "injury prone", and at the time I was stressed, and worrying if I'd be able to complete my last Cross Country season in one piece. Instead I was All-State in Illinois Cross Country, ran a 4:15 mile in Track, and got a Division I scholarship. Dr. McAndrew is the best chiropractor I have ever worked with. As a former ballet dancer with an…read moreactive lifestyle, I've sustained several injuries and been moderately hard on my body. I've seen A LOT of practitioners over the past decade. My initial visit was thorough and individualized, and Dr. McAndrew took the time to get to know me and my history. I felt immediate improvement after the first visit, and within two to three adjustments, I was pain-free and experiencing full range of motion in my back and shoulders -- but a really unexpected result was that he has completely eliminated knee pain and foot numbness that have persisted from a car accident three years ago! I had been routinely treated for the pain and numbness by an osteopath, an orthopedic surgeon, and a chiropractor in another state, and after years of very little improvement, they had all basically told me it would never get better. Dr. McAndrew didn't accept that and worked to find the root of the problem. Not only did he effectively release the nerve tension to restore function and feeling, but he suggested supplements that would specifically help with nerve damage and joint pain. While he offered to order them for me, he also suggested some reputable brands and places to purchase them in town, which brings me to my final point: he is ZERO pressure. This is not the kind of chiropractic office that commits you to a plan over the course of weeks/ months. Dr. McAndrew simply told me to call or make an appointment online whenever I felt like I needed to come back in. To avoid spending a few hundred dollars and waiting in the ER for hours only to receive minimal relief in the form of a few pain killers, I decided to bite the bullet and try to make it through the night. This morning, I spoke with a relative for advice, and they referred me to Elevate Sport and Spine Center based on their experiences with Dr. John Kuruc. Despite initial skepticism because of my poor experiences with a different chiropractor earlier in the week, I decided to call Elevate. Dr. John and Dr. Jessi were extremely friendly and made accommodations to get me into the office within an hour of my call. I spoke with Dr. John one-on-one, uninterrupted for 30-45 minutes as he took the time to really inspect my back and explain to me his thought process on my injury and recommendations for treatment. He was very engaging and was sure to listen and answer any questions that I had regarding my injury and what I could do to expedite my recovery. He didn't just give me an x-ray, adjust my back, and tell me to come back 3x per week for the next 3 months as many chiropractors would do. He spent the time required to understand and treat my pain, and as a result, I feel so much better from a physical standpoint. I firmly believe that Dr. John knows what is wrong with my back and plans on treating me in the most optimal way for MY health, not for his financial benefit.
