Such a brilliant and intuitive acupuncturist. She helped me with both emotional and physical issues. I highly recommend her.

This is a great place to study a very rich array of Chinese martial arts that all come together…read moreunder the Lau Kune Do umbrella: hard and soft, linear and circular, martial and holistic. These forms have been synthesized together by Sifu Richard Tsim, a 1st generation Chinese American teacher who has studied martial arts since he was very young. On the kung fu side, it's a mix of Hung Gar, Wing Chun and northern Shaolin styles. The Tai Chi is most similar to Wu style, and leads into circular Ba Gua forms. Tai Chi classes also include Qi Gong exercises. The facilities include an indoor and outdoor workout area which are inspiring both to look at and to practice in. Classes are held seven days a week, mornings every day and evenings on weekdays. Students can choose to attend just kung fu or just tai chi classes, but most students do a blend of both. Most of the students here are adults, but there is also now a Youth class for tweens and teens. Very young children would probably not work out well, but a focused 9-15 year old would be right at home. The instructors for that section are especially patient and knowledgeable as martial arts instructors go. You couldn't ask for a better scenario for a young learner.

"Lau Kune Do Temple of Martial Arts" caught my eye while I was riding my bike, trying to survive being stranded for months in LA due to Covid-19. The beautiful building, resembling an Asian Sanctuary, caught my eye and I was lucky to be able to meet and begin training with Sifu Tsim. Having studied Tai Chi since the 70's, in 4 countries, with 7 instructors, I feel confident in recommending Sifu Tsim's Lau Kune Do as "The Real Thing"...this is a purest and simplified approach to internal development and peace in life which, if you are willing to put in the work, will provide you with a reason to smile and stay strong, balanced, and kind every day. If you want to learn how to beat people up, this probably isn't the right place. If you want to master yourself and find balance in your life, it is the right place. Sifu Tsim and his capable instructor staff foster a nurturing environment of kindred spirits and dedicated practitioners of the right way to learn and practice martial arts for optimal health, peace of mind, and happiness. If you are accepted as a student, you will be very lucky.

Practicing Tai Chi here is a terrific way to reward both body and soul. You soak in the sunlight and connect with nature, surrounded by trees and a warm community of fellow practitioners. I can't express enough how much I appreciate this experience--highly recommended!

The calm and focus the practice provides sets my tone for the week. I've tried yoga a bunch of times but the static poses weren't for me. And sitting still to meditate doesn't work for me either. Tai chi is like a moving meditation that allows me to tune out the world and my thoughts (or at least keep trying to--it's a practice). At first, it seemed like a lot to learn, but Angie breaks down the movements step by step and reminds us that "any movement is good movement" in case people are still learning. I used to park myself right behind one of the regulars and follow him, and now I'm one of those regulars myself Even though I've been coming for years, I still find new subtleties in different parts of the form. It has also given me great balance, better than I've ever had in my life. I once took a tai chi course that met inside and was very technically precise. I so much prefer doing it outside in the park. Sometimes I wish for specific critique of my form but we do get that during the periodic intermediate/advanced classes she offers. There are generally anywhere from 25-50 people at a session. It's donation based (cash or Venmo), so free if you want to just check it out. I always give because it's so worth it to me.

It had to move from this location because it became too popular, especially after appearing in a CNN Special on Tai Chi. Mask are required and Social Distancing is practiced. My husband and I truly miss this class because we are over 70 years old. However younger friends are attending it at Heartwell Park. He is gentle and kind and seems to really care about his patients and his work. I felt very comfortable with him. His office is also very nice. After receiving an acupuncture treatment from him, I felt just wonderful (peaceful, light, content) and my body aches diminished. I found myself laughing easily and having more joy and ease that day. I want more of that. Dr. Hoover is schooled in chiropractic, acupuncture and herbalism as well as martials. Using the combination of these modalities, he really is able to offer a holistic approach to helping his patients get better physically and emotionally. I had a great experience. I highly recommend anyone with pain to go see Dr. Hoover. Better yet, go see him for preventions.

The classes are small so you feel more connected with the other students and the instructors. Aside from the physical part of learning martial arts, they instill good values and discipline. The instructors and Sifu are so genuine and caring, even when being strict you know they truly care. The kids get tested to rank up and the ceremony for ranking up is pretty entertaining, but the kids certainly feel the significance of it and the recognition for their hard work. The studio currently offers in person and online classes which is convenient. With chairs and benches in the studio, you can stay and watch. It is a small studio so it can get pretty cozy in there. Students are expected to wear either their uniform or the studio's shirt, along with their sash. The material can be stiff, so if your kiddo is fabric sensitive like mine, wash the garment lots and use sandpaper to get the worn in texture. We've had to purchase the sparring gloves and helmet and carrying bag just before pandemic and have yet to use them since they've returned to the studio. I'm hoping it'll still fit when my kiddo can start using it. I'm happy my kiddo is so committed to kung fu, studio and the instructors, and the friends he's made there. My ONLY indirect complaint is that the reception for my cell service sucks in that area, which shouldn't matter...but you all know what I mean!

If you are thinking of becoming a student of this wing chun school, then you will certainly be going to a top notch wing chun school. Sifu talbot is a very good and personable instructor. I stopped going to the school because i simply could not and would not commit myself to training. I started looking for excuses not to go to class. Ohh i tried other martial arts schools before and after the time i spent at west coast wing chun. For the past 2 years i trained in karambit knife combat. After that 2 years i fortunately gain enough skill to be able to effectively defend myself if it comes down to god forbid. If you truly want the skill, then you commit yourself to training otherwise you're wasting time and money regardless of the school you choose. But i give this school a definite 5 star! The sessions run about 90-minutes all together and they offer various package options from one-time sessions to more opportunities to return for free with the package. You can purchase and make appointments directly on their website as well as through ClassPass. When my friends and I arrived, we were welcomed by Ananta, who checked us in, had us sign waivers online and offered us tea. He led us in the breathwork session first, which was an invigorating yet relaxing experience at the same time. Immediately after the session, Ananta led us to the cold plunge where he gently encouraged us to dip in for about 2-minutes. The water was about 40 degrees and my feet were tingling and nearly numb by the time I got out. We did it though and it awakened our senses and got our blood circulating! We then, had the option of dipping in the hot tub or going in the saunas. I warmed up in the jacuzzi, then spent some time in the outdoor barrel steam sauna and infrared sauna. Before I knew it, our 90-minute session came to an end. They have showers for us to rinse off and I left with glowing skin and a lighter spirit. I will definitely be back for more healing and rejuvenation! Free street parking in the residential neighborhood.

A Hidden Oasis in Long Beach - Pure Paradise for Mind & Body…read more I honestly can't say enough good things about this place, it's a true hidden gem in the heart of Long Beach that feels like you've been transported far, far away. As soon as you walk in, the energy shifts. It's calm. Peaceful. Inviting. The kind of space where you instantly feel your shoulders drop and your mind start to slow down. They've created what feels like a tropical wellness retreat, but without ever leaving the city. The cold plunge alone is worth the visit. It's crisp, clean, and absolutely invigorating, and if you've read up on the benefits (reduced inflammation, better sleep, mood boosts), you'll appreciate just how much good it's doing while you shiver! Pair that with their sauna lineup, a traditional hot sauna, a jacuzzi, and beautifully lit infrared saunas and you've got everything you need to detox, decompress, and reset. They also guide you through breathing techniques that help deepen the whole experience. After just one session, I felt like I had taken a vacation without ever stepping on a plane. Whether you're a wellness junkie or just need a few hours to reconnect with yourself, this place is an absolute must. Long Beach has a true oasis, and I'm so grateful I found it. Highly recommend.
