Last week I attended an acupuncture lecture by Jim Zotti. Although I am a massage therapist, my…read moretraining has not included Eastern modalities. This was my first real introduction to acupuncture. Jim was very knowledgeable and gave a great explanation of Chinese medicine and acupuncture. For several days prior to the demonstration, I had been having pain between two knuckles on my left hand. The pain was becoming more intense to the point it was waking me up at night. During the lecture, Jim did a brief demonstration, inserting just two needles in the affected area. My expectations were not high, as the needles were only in a fraction of the normal treatment time. It has been six days since the lecture and the pain has not returned. Jim spoke with confidence and a complete understanding of his skill that only comes with years of experience. I highly recommend Jim and this practice.

So now I must search for another, and the two hour drive to Red Aspen is looking like the best move.

I was skeptical about trying acupuncture - nervous how it might make me feel and concerned that it might be a waste of time and money. I am SO GLAD that I gave acupuncture a try, and I am fortunate that I selected Dr. Doshi. She has helped me relieve and manage stress and the physical toll it was taking on my body. She has helped my weight loss efforts by not only using acupuncture techniques, but also offering sound and helpful advice (I have lost over 20% of my body weight since I've started seeing her in August-2018). She has also helped me reduce sinus pressure and irritation that I routinely get from environmental allergies. She has the perfect balance between Western and Eastern medicines and practices. I just worked in the yard for a couple hours for the first time in 8 weeks and feel no pain!! In…read moreJuly, I completely threw my back out, to the point that I could hardly walk, and it had grown weaker as I did things to push it in the years leading up to this. An MRI told me "flat tire between L3 and 4 and nothing between L4 and 5," (lower lumbar). Spinal surgery (NO), cortisone (NO) or pain meds (NEVER). After my visit to the hospital in May (that offered nothing but about fifty co-pays and a "healthy as can be" in every way diagnosis), I decided to try alternative medicine. Based on a YELP recommendation from the typical "guy," admitting that he didn't think it would help but went to pacify his wife and basically skipped out an hour after his first treatment, I decided to try Alternative Healing Works in Dyer. My journey started 7 weeks ago, and I have waited to write till now because I wanted to be fair in my assessment. For the last seven weeks, I have taken Chinese herbs, gone twice a week for acupuncture and performed acupressure myself, three times per day, according to the practitioner's assessment and instruction. In my first session, he asked if I wanted to relieve my symptoms or--by restoring the flow of energy--allow my body to heal itself. After the medical year I have experienced (I also broke my arm in Feb and had the worst case of vertigo in my life in May), I told him, I want the full Monty. I have followed his advice--all of it--religiously. And I have never felt better. In every way: physically, intellectually and emotionally. I feel like I have freed my spirit. You must take me with a grain, here. If you know me, you know I'm a little wacky (by choice), but my body tells me what it needs and always has (which is why I never get sick). It told me to try acupuncture, and this two-million-year-old practice is pretty miraculous. I knew it would be. One of the good things, too, is that Jason Wilson, M.S.O.M., L.Ac is a practical person who also lets the spirit move him. I have practiced creative visualization and Louise Hay (affirmations) for over 20 years, so I know I'm on the right path. He will answer any question I ask, but for the first time in my life, I simply let go and truly trusted the process. Is it my attitude? Is it ancient herbal and acupuncture techniques that have helped people for thousands of years? Don't know. Don't need to know. I'm just grateful. My body is healing itself on levels I could not have predicted. My skin is great. My headaches are gone. My arthritis is non-existent (I have to struggle to remember how awful I felt), and I am aligned with spirit. It has been what some call "a religious experience." I'm not a spring chicken, but I feel like one. What more can I ask!
