The music in places like these also leaves a lot to be desired; having not actually grown up in the 80s, I've never been particularly keen on the majority of what they play in places like this. Starskys, until fairly recently, was just like one of these places. No matter what night you went in there, you'd always be likely to hear Chesney Hawkes or Livin' On A Prayer by Bon Jovi. The only reason my friends and I ever went there was because they'd have ridiculously cheap drinks deals before 12am, so we'd go in here for a couple of hours before ending the night somewhere more to our tastes, like Alpine next door. It has recently undergone a bit of a refurbishment in an attempt to change its image somewhat, and the club is generally a bit classier-looking as they've tried to get rid of most of the tacky parts that fitted in with the 80s theme. The music is still pretty terrible, but the drinks there remain fairly cheap. They are undercut by nearby Elementary these days though, meaning we usually head there instead when looking to begin the night on the cheap. Overall though, it's not that bad if that's your sort of thing.

The music is ok depending on what you are into- mainly recent music but some older songs played near the end of the night. The club is often busy and attracts a range of customers, mainly 18-25 year olds but also has regular customers over 35 years old. There is a smoking area outside with benches which is often full on a Friday and Saturday night. The police are often outside but not much trouble occurs. The bar area is busy and you have to wait a long time to buy a drink.

Unusually it hosts a Polish pop night on a Tuesday, but the rest of the week (Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun) is dedicated to pop, dance and r&b. You can apply for guestlist online which gets you in free before 11.45 or if you're a local you can collect a membership card whenever you're in the club. Upstairs is a massive dance room, then there's small r&b room halfway down, a chart / dance room on the bottom floor and at the back an oldies room. You can gain entrance to the back of the club if you're over 25 via a door on Springfield Road which means you often avoid the queue. We generally prefer to dance in this part of the club as the music is mainly 70s and 80s. Cheesy, chavy, but get drunk and you'll have fun.

Camel is a real hit with the student crowd and offers a good selection of cheap bottled drinks that are lapped up by the enthusiastic scholars! There are a few egos on display on the dancefloor, but on a whole the place is a pretty good venue for a fun night out! Based over two levels, the bottom floor is decorated like a Moroccan cave and upstairs is more of a quiet chill-out area for those who want to escape the sweaty dancefloor. The best night has to be Monday, but get there early as it gets VERY busy!

Overpriced yes, but you get an amazing night out for your money! The revolving dancefloor they had always used to be a bit strange though - it used to make me think I was falling over when really I was just stood with 1 foot on the revolving bit and the other on the normal bit! Millions of pounds have been spent on the Syndicate, and therefore they admittedly do charge clubbers a lot for entrance fees and drinks (around £4). It's not something I could afford to do every week, but for a special birthday night out it's great fun!

The drinks are reasonably priced and with cheaper admission prices before certain times it doesn't have to break the bank. There is often entertaiment provided by the DJs before the main night kicks off and events and fancy dress is also a regular feature. The main Squires nightclub plays all your mainstream chart kind of music, with New York New York a must for those into cheesy and older music with its flashing multicoloured dancefloor a nice touch. With the club being located underground however, the mobile phone signal can be hit and miss.

The bar staff at Squires tend not to observe even a vague queuing system at any of the bars. If you do eventually get served don't expect to get a full measure of spirit or a real glass for your drink, any social niceties from the staff or the drinks advertised at the bar to actually be available. You can also expect vomit in the corners of the VIP lounge, regular fights and spectacularly disgusting toilets. You have been warned!
