I have gotten passed that and have begun working out with Brooke. She has started me at just the right pace and has gradually increased my workout intensity. I feel more and more comfortable, have increased to three times a week and have not missed a session or been late! She is thoughtful about what I do and changes the routine up to make it interesting. She recently added a short session with boxing and I just so much enjoy the variety, time goes very quickly. I was concerned about the distance from my work in RWC, but the drive through Portola Valley has proven to be relaxing as well as lovely! Their first evaluative consultation was insanely expensive ($340 for an evaluation visit!) and the whole objective of the visit was to try to get me to sign up for more visits. The "trainer" they had me work with towards the end of the visit was appallingly inexperienced and incompetent (I have had trainers for 30 years, I know good from bad.) The "manager," Fide, is aggressive and rude, literally shouting me down on the phone when I called to ask for details about the bill. What a horrific place, unless you are a masochist with low quality standards.

My son progressed further into the USA swim program which includes year round swim practices and more competitive meets around the Bay Area. This has enabled him to quickly integrate and do well on his high school swim team. He has learned valuable life lessons from swimming and has built great relationships with his coaches as well as friendships across several school districts. My wife joined the Masters swim program shortly after we became members. It has become a long lasting exercise routine with friendships which will last forever. We often bring visiting summer guests to the club to escape the heat and relax in front of the pool. The two pools at Ladera provide a clear advantage over other clubs since the lower pool is all about recreation and fun while the upper pool can be dedicated to more serious swimmers except on the occasional weekend time slots when they open the 3 meter diving board for fun and games off of the high dive. We frequently take advantage of the cafe or bring lunch in a cooler or have dinner around the BBQ. I routinely use the exercise room while my children are at swim practice or at a swim team social event. It has a sufficient collection of weight lifting and cardio equipment. We have not taken advantage of the tennis side of the club. I have many memories playing with my kids in the lower pool as they became more proficient and confident swimmers and divers. Now the joy is watching them win an event or relay in a swim meet. I am sure that these memories will last a lifetime in each of us.

We've also had our kids in the tennis program and they've done well. For us older folks (parents), we've been part of everything from the Masters swim program to twilight tennis and fitness classes. The pool, tennis, and fitness facilities are very good, though the locker rooms are small and very tired. This is getting fixed right now with a major renovation focused on the main building and locker rooms, plus an expansion of the fitness center. We were introduced to the club by neighbors across the street, who had joined when their kids were young (they are now 40+) and we can see why they have stayed members all these years. This club is more of a community and family spot than most - which is obvious especially in the summer with all the families poolside during the day. If you've got young kids, and like being involved with them, this is a great spot to get them into swimming and tennis. If you want a place where you drop your kids off at the daycare and work out, it's not for you. Lastly, here's a quick rundown of the facilities: - 25yd waveless deep lap pool (for adults) - 25yd shallower pool (for kids) with diving L and alcoves for toddlers that are 1' deep - 6 lit tennis courts with ball machines, pro shop, and tennis lounge - Fitness center with 8-10 cardio machines, free weights, and resistance equipment - Fitness classes and personal trainers available

The trainers genuinely love what they do, and they are so skilled at meeting me at my level and helping me unlock my potential. There are usually more dogs than clients, and there is always great music playing and an overall fun, non-judgmental and supportive vibe. Mixing personal training with Glenn (who is awesome), with mobility classes with Alvin (also awesome) keeps it interesting. Corey's weekly podcast is an extra-added bonus so I always feel like I get more than I pay for. I cannot recommend this gym more highly.

From day one, I felt at home. Francisco did my assessment and set the tone with a thoughtful, personalized approach. Corey, the owner, is so down-to-earth and even jumps in on classes. I've also trained with Jamie, Billy, and Damian, and every single coach brings both expertise and energy. They actually watch your form, coach you through adjustments, and push you in the right ways. What sets FL apart is their model: semi-private sessions (10 clients, 2 coaches), which means you get personalized attention without losing the motivation of a group atmosphere. The programming is smart--focused on movement quality, strength, and conditioning that translate into real-life performance. As someone training for Hyrox, this has been a game changer. The community here is just as strong as the workouts. People cheer each other on, and it truly feels like a team environment. Palo Alto, you're lucky to have this spot--I can't recommend it enough.

The gym is clean, well-run and has everything you need for a great workout. Owner Ken Preminger is friendly and service-oriented; he matches each client with the right trainer for their style and fitness goals. My trainer Chelsea Fleher is extremely knowledgeable about fitness and exercise, diet and nutrition, and has experience working with clients from all fitness levels. She is very focused and doesn't waste my training time with idle chatter. She also keeps workouts varied and interesting, and is motivating without being patronizing or too soft. I've seen great results thanks to her support. I highly recommend both Chelsea and Fitness Power for anyone looking to get into better shape without having to join a 'mega gym': cfleher@gmail.com and ken@fitnesspower.com

She put together so many good workouts to accomplish the goals I shared with her and keep it interesting and engaging. She is really nice, but never let me get away with slacking. Her awesome workouts definitely helped me get the results I was looking for. The super valuable thing about Chelsea is that she can develop a completely new workout plan for the day on the fly. One day I came in for my workout and my foot was swollen from the heat and from not stretching at all after dancing several times per week. I told her what was going on, and she came up with a whole new routine that kept me off my feet and often kept my feet elevated to help ease the swelling. And it was still a good workout! And she began and ended that session with some killer stretching. She pointed out which muscles I need to be sure to stretch to prevent my foot from swelling going forward. It has made a huge difference! I can't afford to do personal training continuously, but whenever I do have the cash for it, I'll be calling Chelsea.

I found Lagree Fitness Club after looking at the Deals tab on MindBody, and signed up for the two…read moreclasses + free socks promotion. The studio is in Town and Country, so depending on the class time you've selected, you may want to get there extra early to find parking. I didn't get a fun/inviting/welcoming vibe during my experience here, but I wouldn't say the instructors are rude. The studio has around a dozen reformers, but unfortunately doesn't have lockers (they have cubbies with doors on them behind a wall, but no locks, so I opted to leave my belongings near my megaformer, which I'd recommend doing for safety). They do have a station to refill your water, towels, beverages and merch available for purchase, a room to change clothes, a restroom, and other items like makeup remover wipes, deodorant, etc. I didn't find the studio to be overwhelmingly clean, which was surprising since the morning class I went to was right when they opened for the day. There was hair on the floor underneath my megaformer, so it didn't seem like they had swept the night before, and I noticed that the basket for used towels was almost full too right before the first class of the day began. The class I went to was a 6:30am class with Jeannette and she gave me the choice between the free black or white socks. Both options were cute and a good way to incentivize people to try the studio! The class about as challenging as other Lagree/megaformer classes are, but much, much lower energy. I believe they use a Mega Pro machine, which felt a little flimsier and less sturdy than a typical megaformer to me. A few other things I think could be improved.: -The music. The class I went to seemed to be playing Boyz II Men's greatest hits, and I think more current music would make the classes more fun and go by faster, especially because the instructor isn't talking for most of the class. Similar studios play a lot of Tate McRae/Taylor Swift/top 40 songs that make the vibe of the class more fun and upbeat. Especially at 6:30am, it would have been great to have some songs that helped us wake up, rather slow/sleepy songs. -There seemed to be a level of slight annoyance from the instructor when people in the class would move through a posture too quickly, although there was no way for us to know how long to hold/move for because she'd count up from one (instead of down from 4 or 8). I've found at other studios instructors will say "and out for four....three... two... one" and everyone in the class is on the same page and knows how to time their movement, rather than an instructor counting up from one and getting annoyed that people are going too quickly because the they never said how many counts the move should be for. I intended to go to the second class from the promotion this morning, but encountered a car parked in front of my driveway and couldn't leave my house. I checked the Yelp page and website for a phone number, but they don't have one listed. I cancelled on Mindbody and you just lose a class credit, but aren't charged extra which is nice. Overall, I wouldn't say the workouts or vibe here as fun as similar workouts like Solidcore, Heartcore, WestCore, or traditional pilates classes like MNT or RockSalt, but it's possible that it's so new that the instructors haven't really hit their groove yet in terms of engaging with their clients and instructor training. I probably won't return until they've had some time to work out the kinks, but hope others give them a try since they're a new business in the area!
