Private studio space isn't available here, which is what I was looking for, but they do have open studios where you can pack all your stuff in and out for a day a week for a very small fee. Painters can come in from 9-3 on Wednesdays for just $5. There's free tea and coffee if that's up your alley as well as kitchens and sinks available for use. They also have tables and easels to use at no extra charge. Other open studios are available for a variety of mediums on the designated days. They also offer classes in a range of arts - drawing, encaustics, calligraphy, photography, etc. If I still lived in Edmonds and didn't want a place to stash all my stuff outside of the home, I'd consider Art Works. A good place, I think, for teens and beginner adults to try out a variety of mediums. I may still venture out there to learn calligraphy, something I've wanted to learn for a long time.

The more artists in close proximity, the richer the interaction. This Seattle living space is home to friends, many, many artists in close proximity and they have open houses for their art sometimes. Unlike the usual minimal, cold and dank warehouses, the TK lofts are clean and bright. All the better for keeping hundreds of resident artists perky and productive. It is run by a passionate woman who is a sewing expert and the classes she offers really help build a sense of community in the cap hill area. The space also offers studio rental space for artists looking for a place to work on their projects. They are also hosting a market for local artists this year. I'm hoping these events continue. Overall, I intend to become a regular at Summit Selvage.

Building C is tucked away in the lower reaches of Ballard, on the corner of Leary and 14th in a…read moredon't-blink-or-you'll-miss it warehouse space across the street from Office Max. It is one of the more venerable stops on the Second Saturday Ballard Artwalk: it's working artist studio spaces that the artists graciously open for Artwalk and are right there to talk to folks passing through. While most of the artists are painters, working in a wide range of styles and media, there are also very talented artists working with metals and jewelry and beads and fabrics. It's an extremely friendly group of artists who very happily engage visitors and will also sell you something if you're interested. And sometimes there are bottles of wine and treats, and sometimes there is a cute dog or two running around. Possibly because it's somewhat off the main drag of the Artwalk, there will be some times when many of the studios are closed, but it definitely picks up going into the holiday season. Please do yourself a favor and check it out sometime. The talent level here is superlative (including AJ Power and CL Utley and Michael Dickter, to name a few; as this is a series of studios, the roster has some turnover from time to time). It's the most unique stop on the Artwalk.

It allows for local artists to grow and collaborate with one another. The Fishbowl is also the finding group for the Uptown artwalk. The space has been so welcoming and I love coming here to meet with other artists! I've made some great friends! I highly recommend checking out the space wether your looking for a studio or just looking to hang out with other artists!
