Meanwhile, the refrigerator was off too, and we were not about to lose all our food. We turned to Yelp. The reviews looked solid, so we called. They answered right away. A few minutes later, we got a text saying Daniel was on his way and would arrive in 16 minutes. And he did. We described the issue, he inspected the outlet, and removed the cover. The receptacle was cracked in five places, with melted and burned plastic. It was a dangerous mess that could have turned into a serious problem. Daniel replaced it, flipped the breaker, and everything came back to life. No more crackling. Coffee maker working. Fridge humming again. We are very happy with the service and have added Johnathon Brown Electric to our go-to list. If we have another electrical issue, they will be our first call. We probably could have gotten the work done a bit cheaper if we went with some self-taught handyman off of thumbtack, and I could have done the work myself (though it would have taken me a lot longer and probably would have made a mess in the process); but plumbing and electrical are two things that are worth paying a professional who has a license and insurance for. He pulled the permit, set up a combo meter base, grounding wires, converted the fuse box to a junction box. Wasn't easy with an 18-inch clear crawl space, crazy old circuits that still needed power while waiting for Duke Energy to run the line and place the meter. By 12:30 he had arrived. Jose was respectful of my home the entire time he was there. He took care to cover his shoes prior to entering my home. He also introduced himself at the door. He greeted me with a smile. In less than 5 minutes he heard about our issue with the electric going out and what was going on and conversed with us about it. He gave us two options to address the issue, one of them being a full diagnostic costing $347. He walked us through the pros and cons of both options. He fixed the issue within 10 minutes. We are very pleased with the work done. We learned that this is he and his wife's business. He is licensed in North Carolina and serves the greater Charlotte area (we live in Harrisburg).
