Heading to Santa Cruz, CA anytime soon? Can't decide where to stay? Check out Hotel Paradox, an…read moreAutograph Collection by Marriott. Where you can enjoy the amenities and a beautiful sunset view. This hotel has a gorgeous lobby and restaurant. It's kids and pet friendly. A family oriented hotel. I loved that they offered s'mores at the front desk. Blossom the front desk lady was really friendly. The rooms are really cute. But If you're outside looking at the rooms you would think you're in an apartment building because the walkway/hallway is open to the outside. On the other hand you can walk out your room enjoy to e view of the sunrise or sunset. The location is perfect if you plan to go to Santa Cruz beach boardwalk, it's less than 6-7 minute drive. And if you are an early bird you can find plenty of open public metered parking spots. Note: the restaurant staff. I found one server didn't treat us well. For one we were told to come and pick a table. And we found one but it hadn't been cleaned so she told us to wait at the front (when clearly nobody's even waiting at the front) everyone's just walking around. Then a couple of people came after us and they were seated right away. Was not even told go to the front. Like what? I find that rude. I give this entire experience 4 stars. It was nice but not the best. But I'd come back again.

This was a business trip so the hotel was paid for by my client. I asked them to put the charge on the card that was paying for the room but they refused. "the charge will be released when you check out". I checked out on July 9, 2026 and have yet to see this $100 come back to my card. I called several times asking for the manager but only got the front desk girls. Then a guy comes on and starts yelling at me to stop annoying the girls. he sounded like one of their boyfriends. I also reached out to the card that the charge was placed on. They "voided" the charge but again, the $100 never reappeared. As of now I have yet to get the $100 back in my account. If these people can scam me for $100. I wonder who else they've scammed and for how much? I'll never go back!

Pros: Location - immediately across the street, less than 5 min walk to boardwalk or beach No complaints about the bed comfort, we all slept well Small parking lot within hotel space, overflow parking next door, had no issues finding a spot Rooms have a microwave, fridge, Keurig. Really nice community balcony with comfortable seating, fire pit overlooking the beach, just off the hotel check in space Front desk staff nice, helpful finding restaurant Cons: Cleanliness - baseboards, shower, floors, everything could've used a deep clean. For this price point ($400/night in July), it should be cleaner. Super steep incline and stairs to get to rooms - if you have mobility issues in your group this may or may not apply to you. TV was annoying, window kept opening on screen saying to download update using Samsung remote (only remote in room was a Dish remote) Overall, room did not reflect price point - scratchy bedding/towels, warped faux wood floors, cruddy dirty baseboards, "landlord special" in bathroom (obvious painting over God knows what). Summary - great spot if you want to just step out of your room and onto beach / boardwalk, but for nicer, cleaner accommodations look elsewhere.

We booked the Captain's Suite for one night to celebrate our anniversary, and unfortunately, what…read morewas supposed to be a special getaway turned into an extremely disappointing experience. Within about two hours of settling into the suite, we saw a HUGE RAT walking near the kitchen island IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. As soon as it saw us, it ran and jumped behind the refrigerator. We immediately packed up and went to the front desk because there was no way we were comfortable staying in that room. The staff moved us to another room, but it was nowhere near comparable to the Captain's Suite we had booked and paid for. We specifically chose a larger space because we were traveling with our two dogs and my wife is somewhat claustrophobic, so the downgrade made a huge difference for us. To make matters worse, the replacement room was next to two dogs that barked throughout the day and night. What has been most frustrating is the lack of response from management. We asked to speak with a manager and I have left several messages since our stay, but no one has returned my calls or made any real effort to compensate us for what happened. I understand that unexpected things can happen, and I appreciated the front desk moving us, but finding a rat inside the suite we paid for, being moved to a significantly less comparable room, and then receiving no follow-up or compensation from management is unacceptable. We chose this property specifically to celebrate our anniversary, and unfortunately the experience completely took away from what was supposed to be a special night. I really wish management had simply taken the time to respond and make things right.
