Hi All, It really saddens me to report the following. My gf and I got smallish tattoos by EVAN in Electric Tattoo on March 5th, 2023. The shop has an amazing rep and I know many people that received great tattoos and service here. So I had no worries at all going in. I however, have had 7 weeks of pain from the tattoo I received that has not healed as of today. I have other tattoos from another shop that never had a problem healing AT ALL. This one is a different story. I followed the directions that EVAN gave day of, and by 10 days later, it was not even close to starting to heal. I paid for a dermatologist visit and took some antibiotics for a week, 10 days after initial tattoo. It did not heal. I contacted owner of Electric Tattoo and they gave more specific instructions to help heal the tattoo, but always assuming "I" was doing something wrong and it was not any of the artist's fault. Now at 8 weeks 5/5/23 post tattoo of following Electric Tatttoo's directions to the letter, I'm left with an un-healed or healing very very very slowly tattoo that still hurts. Not once has owner taken responsibility for artist going too deep in the body of the tattoo. My gf that went with me whom has many many tattoos.....sleeves of tattoos, commented right after our appt. 3/5, that EVAN was extremely heavy handed and her simple word on the inside of her wrist hurt the entire time she was getting tattoo. Be careful. This experience had impacted me negatively and I will NEVER receive another tattoo. read more

If you're truly serious about getting a tattoo, $40 will hold you a reservation for the tattoo artist of your choice. At the end of your session, their fee will deduct $40. Very fair prices for excellent work. My entire family has gone to Tom Yak who specializes in Asian tattoos. He does visit India every few months so definitely call ahead of time. Next to him is another matter artist Mike S. If Tom's not available, he's the next guy is go to. He does contemporary"old school" tattoos. In other words he puts a modern spin on the classic looks. All the people there are exceptionally nice. Just be on time, be respectful and don't show up drunk. Very hygienic and plays cool music. Both customers and artists admire each other's work and freely tell each other there tat is great. read more

An absolute nightmare. Back in 2013 at the old shop, I was a walk looking for a rising sun on my shoulder. I believe it was Barret who worked on me. The tattoo was very hasty and it seemed super rushed, but I could not see what he was doing while he was working on me. The result looked like a 5 year old using crayon on my shoulder. I thought the shop went out of business only to see they relocated to Asbury, so I leave this to warn others. While reviewing their social media/ website and seeing what looks like very good work, it pains me even more to have received such a poor product from this establishment. read more

I had an amazing experience at Electric Tattoo. The shop staff and artists are professional and make you feel relaxed right away. My sister and I popped in as walk ins and left with tattoos we love. Tom gave me my three little birds and I was immediately comfortable with him and glad to discuss my thoughts and his thoughts on making the tattoo work best and have the best impact. My sister wanted a Latin phrase in script and they designed it in a couple options for her to select from. This was much better than what I have seen at other shops where you look through a font book. Seeing it in the options was better than imagining what it would look like. I got a quarter sleeve piece done several days ago at electric tattoo by Rob Ryan. I had 2 small tattoos already (from elsewhere), but I was really nervous given this would be a larger piece. The shop itself is very very very spacious and clean. It definitely is NOT some seedy or sketchy little shop where it just screams hepatitis. It is brightly lit, has tons of art on the walls, large work stations, and is spotless. I was really impressed. All of the artists were professional, friendly, and really seem to love what they do. Robert looked at some pics of ideas I had and listened to the details I said I wanted. He drew up a great design and was more than willing to make any adjustments I wanted. Robert worked quickly (which definitely helps with the pain and time) but with great concentration. He has 20+ years experience tattooing. The lines and shading of my tattoo are smooth and flawless. The prices are more than fair, especially given the detail and quality of work. When you make your appointment you just have to put down a cash deposit to secure your spot, but it is later applied to the balance, which is cool. I highly recommend Electric Tattoo! I have been going to a core group of the artists here for a very long time, spanning 4 different buildings/businesses and they have always been extremely clean, personable and extremely talented. In this Covid world i had an appointment with Barrett today and I cannot even begin to express how clean and thorough their precautions are right now. The shop was immaculate- these guys have always run a very clean and tight operation, but, this has been amplified to such a high level. I felt safer here than the doctors office- there are a lot of important things that go along with getting a tattoo, but, in the world right now this is #1 and they absolutely have accomplished their goal of creating a safe environment for the workers and guests. As far as the work, like i said, I've been getting work done my Mike and Barrett for years and theres a reason i keep coming back. My tattoos are all still tight and colorful. You listen to their recommendations on care and yours will be too. Im happy that i was finally able to get a new tattoo and put money into a good local business- Cant wait to come back. read more

For anyone trying to get a serious tattoo i suggest going else where, take this as a warning most of the tattoo artist have a bad attitude about being there. We could verbally hear most of them complaining they had to be there. Take note that whatever tattoo you are getting is permanent, they shouldn't be suggesting to make their job easier. It is about you. Tattooing is an art and they are making it just a job. If you aren't going to do it for yourself then do it for the profession . I came to Electric to get tattooed by Robert Ryan with a friend. The shop was large, brightly lit and immaculate. All of the staff were friendly. There is flash all over the walls. The prices were incredibly reasonable for the quality of work. I paid more for a simple piece half the size in Philadelphia of similar quality work. I didn't have a solid idea of what I wanted when I went in. I have a few friends that have been tattooed by Robert and I love the style and bold colors of his work and knew that I could trust he would come up with something great for me. I have looked at a lot of Robert's work and told him the stuff I was interested in. After my friend's session was finished, we went and got lunch and when we came back he had a drawing for me. It was really inventive and neat. Robert was friendly and easy to chat with while he was working. His work is not only bold, but also incredibly thoughtful. I am SO happy with what he came up with for me and hope to get back to get something new from him sometime soon. read more

Went here for the first time last month for a guest artist. People are nice and welcoming. Spacious area in the front but limited seating. Had to wait a bit because there were a lot of people in front of me but I had an appointment. Once I notified the guy at the desk, he gave me paperwork and sat me in the back. Within about 20 minutes I consulted with my artist and I was getting tattooed in no time. Took about 2 hours and a break in the middle. I put the pricing as moderate because I overheard the prices that were being given and they weren't too bad. Some of my friends said their work is pretty good so I would say it's definitely worth it. My guest artist was a little expensive but he is a guest artist from another country. It was a smooth transaction though. Downside: Have to pay for parking in the neighborhood. I did email them and never heard back. So after about 2 weeks I just ended up calling. read more

I can't possibly recommend this place highly enough. I've gotten 3 out of my 5 pieces done there, and every single experience has been both excellent and better than the last. My most recent piece, done by Tom Yak, built upon a preexisting tattoo I'd gotten done by another artist a while back. Since it was set to be on my ribcage and pretty extensive, I was wary despite how much I'd dug his portfolio for years now. Long story short, it was probably the best tattoo experience I've ever had. While I told him the basics of what I wanted -- the specific song lyrics + that I wanted roses -- the design and the typography were exactly what I'd envisioned even though I hadn't given him any reference images. He managed to make the end result -- old piece + new additions -- look like they'd been brainstormed at the same time as one huge, elegant piece. And while I never thought a ribcage tattoo could be an enjoyable experience, I found myself actually laughing through a lot of it. And the price was beyond right ($120 for additions that could've otherwise constituted 4 separate, standalone tattoos that'd have been $100/each anywhere else). It was such an excellent experience that we've already started brainstorming my next piece. Everyone in this shop is beyond talented, compassionate, hyper-creative, detail-obsessed and customer-centric. They care as much about your piece -- whether it's a walk-in or one that came with a master plan -- as much as you do, and that passion makes all the difference. I literally make the trek from the Washington, D.C. area to Asbury explicitly to get work done here. And it's worth every mile and penny. He covered an old one on one arm that I got tired of and the one that covered it looks great. He enhanced and older one that I have and also put two new tattoos on my back. This shop is much bigger than they're previous shop and just as clean. The artists work in an open space so that stories, jokes and conversations converge at some points to make for some ineresting chatter. There is tons of beautiful hand-painted flash on the walls to choose from that is mostly created by the shop artists as well as some of the tattoo industry's heavy hitters. These guys are so into tattoos, art, techniques, etc. and it shows in their work. Saturdays and Sundays are first come, first serve with all of the shop's artists involved. They also take appointments during the week and are usually booked a month or two in advance (which is why walk-in Saturdays and Sundays work for an impulsive fella like myself). With as much experience and skill that these guys have, they are humble and friendly and willing to make honest suggestions as to what works and what doesn't work for a tattoo.
