    Jasmine rice bowl and dumplings
    Becky N.

With a 6 hour drive behind me and four hours of pre-course videos ahead of me, I simply wanted good, easy takeout to bring back to my hotel room. Electric Ramen won the Yelp search. They did offer delivery - but I skipped the door dash because those delivery fees - wow - and drove the couple of miles down the road to pick up my rice bowl and dumplings. Don't judge - I was hungry! My rice bowl was pretty good. I would have loved to see a bit more sauce/flavor and ended up using the sauce that came with dumplings to give it some pizzazz. The dumplings were good, but would have been better with a quick browning and maybe a bit more salt in the filling. All in all though - this is not a huge town and it's great to have a different quick option from fast food. There's a decent amount of seating inside but I'm guessing they do a brisk take out business!!

Creative combinations...unparalleled flavor! Worth every cent! Super friendly service.

Korean bbq pork belly bao. Print this picture and then eat it. That's probably more flavorful than the real thing.

I really hate giving bad reviews, but I really question these five star reviews here. Not much more to be said about the food that hasn't already been said...a properly prepared pork belly shouldn't be rubbery. A colorful bowl of ramen should also be flavorful, this was not, the seaweed salad and bao buns were ok. The service was good, the place was clean, and that's about it for the positives. I spent $41, tip included for two pork belly bao buns, a seaweed salad and half order of the Korean bbq pork belly ramen. I do not feel like I got a $41 experience today.

A friend raved about this place and I'm not sure why. My husband had the Korean BBQ Beef Ramen. The broth had a good flavor but the pork belly was rubbery. I had the Sesame and Wild Mushroom Rice Bowl. This dish was flavorless. A bunch of unseasoned jasmine rice with mushrooms and bamboo shoots. There were no bean sprouts like there was supposed to be and very little bok choy. Dish was also supposed to have truffle oil, but not sure it was on there because I never tasted any. So disappointing. It would take a lot to get me back there.

We were initially a little weary, the previous reviews made it seem like this place was hit or miss. But this place is a hidden gem in howell, off of grand river. cute restaurant front & inside decor. Got the wild mushroom bao, and two half bowls of Korean BBQ pork and Kobe beef short rib. The food was excellent! good flavor, tasted authentic with a modern twist. the service was good, our order was ready within 10 min. we played the arcade video game while we waited so we didn't mind. will definitely be back!

3.5* The ramen is good. Better than I expected. The hard boiled egg was tasty. I ordered mine with short rib it was good. No siracha?! Cmon. I asked what was made in house and they said the meat wasn't made in house. Needs a few tweaks. Kinda pricey for what it is. Service is ok.

Electric Ramen is my new favorite restaurant in town. It's great to have a well-rounded chef that has a keen interest and strong intuition on flavor fusions. So far I have had a couple of the ramen dishes, a rice bowl, and a chef special sandwich (which was the grilled cheese with bacon, kimchi, and a dipping sauce) and I have been really impressed with all of it. Chef Mark is really nice too. I asked him about how he came to opening a ramen shop in Howell MI and he told me about his background and culinary interests. I love supporting local businesses doing good things in their communities and this is a delicious way to do it.

This is the type of place Howell has been needing. They definitely have a different twist on ramen. Bold flavors with the broth and the meat here. I got the Korean BBQ Pork Belly ramen. It had some good flavors but all around was way too salty to fully enjoy. The pork was incredible tho! Super fast service and convenient location in Howell. Just wish there was a better ambience inside so I could've dined in. I would come back again to try a different ramen if I am in the area, maybe the sweet thai chili broth just wasn't it for me

Best Ramen spot in town. My personal favorite is the Pork Belly Ramen but the Kobe Beef Ramen is also amazing!

After graduating my girlfriend [now wife] and I would make it a point to try and eat at Matsu-Chan when in the area, even after our first kiddo, and eventually our second. Last year before one of our trips to the area my wife let me know that they were under new management and when I looked at the new menu, I was saddened that all of my favorite items were no longer present, and it seemed that my beloved little slice of Japan was now "just" a ramen shop. While my wife loves and can handle ramen and the broth, I would typically get the different rice bowls, or other entrees because while I love me some good ramen it doesn't work out well for me with the hour or so trip to the area. We'd get some rolls, takoyaki, and other appetizers to share around the table before digging into our main entrees. With the increased prices, and fewer options, I will end up going to any of the multitude of places [Aji-ten is usually our #2] to get my kick. I'll miss the little shop and the times I've had, like perusing the manga while waiting for a table. I wish the old owners the best, and the new management as well, especially if it was a familial transfer, but Matsu-Chan is not for me anymore. My wife will eventually get up there and let me know how it is, but for now, I'm just happy that a little bento shop opened near my workplace run by two first gen transplants, so I can at least get my fix without the drive.

Others following us added their names to the waitlist. The restaurant is small with just a handful of tables. One chef, it appears, prepared all the meals. I barely glanced at the menu; I already knew I was having the ramen. The only question was which one. My friend selected the eel bowl while I had the miso pork soup. The latter was served with sliced pork, bamboo shoots, fish cake, and seaweed. The broth was full of flavor; I enjoyed every slurp. I appreciated that the meal was sizeable and inexpensive - I was able to stretch it to two meals. We did not linger given the number of people waiting.

Hubby and I laughed at how many times we zipped past the restaurant without noticing it. My husband and I both ordered the Major Tom Khatsu, which has a coconut chicken broth base. The chicken katsu pieces were the perfect level of crispy without being heavily breaded. There was also a nice little kick to the dish, which made it so, so yummy. Our friends got the Shoyu ramen with pork belly, and the Corned Beef ramen. The Shoyu dish seemed to be more enjoyable. Though we stuck with water, cans of Faygo pop seemed to be the drink offerings - other than alcoholic beverages. Areas for improvement include the waiting. Johnny Noodle King is a small place, with a main dining area and then what seems to be a bar area attached. We initially waited by the door for our table along with another small group (we were a party of four). We were then asked to go to the bar area to wait so that it would clear the door, but found it interesting how we were asked to move but not the other group. Also, we were standing away from the doormat we were not obstructing anyone's movements. The wait was long, and we asked if we could order food to the bar area (as opposed to waiting for a table). We were told 'no', yet there was a table full of patrons who were eating. There was no notification system, so our friend had to keep going to the front to see if our table was ready. Don't get me wrong; 'hooray' to Johnny Noodle King for having such great business volume. However, they need a way to manage it so that people will not be put off. Once we were seated, we did have good service from our waitstaff, and the food was very good. My husband and I plan to return to explore more of the menu. Hopefully, we can pick a time of day when waiting won't be such a big issue.
