In my last review, I think I complained about being a tired mom with macaroni and cheese stains on my pants. Well, nine years later, I'm still a mom but fortunately less tired, the stains on my pants are from red wine and vegan tzatziki, and the kids I made macaroni and cheese for have grown up and are very interested in music. And they ask me to take them to Luna Music. I'm always happy to oblige. My oldest kid love Luna Music because he can find albums for the bands that he listens to. Bands and artists that are not on my radar at all (Blood Orange? Anyone, anyone? Bueller?), but he loves them, and it makes him happy to find them here in vinyl. Luna has a lot of new music on vinyl. This is the place to visit in Indianapolis if you're looking for any kind of new music. They are on top of it. In fact, I subscribe to their weekly newsletter just to keep abreast of the new music that drops every week. Luna Music keeps me young and able to relate to my children, who have astounding musical taste for their age. Luna skews toward records, but they also have a smaller selection of used CDs, as well as a collection of used cassette tapes that are smaller still. You can also find zines, local artwork, greeting cards, record players and other fun things. The people who work here are super friendly and not at all snobby. There are no Jack-Black-from-High-Fidelity people here!

They are fairly new (I believe they've been opened for a year), but have a lot to offer. Their prices are set by 3 prices (for used records). -Red stickers are $5.00 -Yellow stickers are $10.00 -Green stickers are $15.00 Some are priced individually if they don't have colored stickers. Which is very reasonable. They have .50 cent and $3.00 bins on the bottom of the shelves which are in fairly good condition and nice selection. Left with a ton of $3.00 finds! The store itself is very organized, categorized, not cluttered and overstocked. Easy to maneuver and get around. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. They don't have a listening station but willing to play a record if you want to test it out. They do sell used stereo equipment, CDs, cassettes, Newly pressed Vinyls, new record players, accessories, and T-shirt's with their logo. I'm so glad we stopped by. Crate digging was so much fun and left with a lot of great vinyls. Can't wait to go back!

Rock, punk, new wave, metal, country, whatever you're looking for. The friendly owner explained the layout and was happy to answer questions. He scours the rummage sales for used vinyl and knows where to source the new stuff. If he hasn't got what you want, he'll help you track it down. There's CDs too, tons of CDs. Even some cassettes! The used stuff is checked for condition so buy with confidence. They also sell turntables and speakers. Today I got a Doobie Brothers tape, Alan Parsons Project tape, albums by Jackson Browne, and The Byrds. Can't wait to come back for more.

I popped into Karma Records after a few times driving by it. Who knew where was such a slapper of a…read morerecord store on the east side? Apparently, many people knew, because Karma has been around since 1970, and it's the oldest record store in Indianapolis. OK! I'm obviously late to the game. Usually, I visit record stores just to browse, but this time, I visited to find a specific album. But when I asked the kind people behind the counter to look up the album for me, I found out the album that I had in mind was actually out of print! So I could order it online, but it would cost like five hundred dollars or some obscene amount. The helpful people at Karma offered to order other albums by the same artist. But I didn't want that, and instead just browsed the selection of records that Karma. There are a lot of records here. Surely, if you're not dead set on a specific out-of-print record like me, you will find something here. They also have CDs. And the cool people at Karma are willing to order whatever you want (assuming it's not out of print), and it will show up at the shop a few days later. Man, you didn't ask, but this place smells like incense, I tell you what. Which is appropriate, I guess, because they sell incense here. I just mention in case you're sensitive to incense.

And for vinyl they've got local artists, popular music and old vintage stuff as well! They also have a cool corner with art in the back and in the first room they have a bunch of cool art in drawers. They allow local artists to each have a drawer for their work and I just think that's SO cool!! They're queer friendly and definitely feel like a safe place! At one time had a donation box for menstrual products but someone destroyed it and I'm not sure if it's still there but they're just a great small business in Irvington that really adds so much to our community!

I noticed a mix of musical instruments scattered through the shop and the man working was busy setting up something towards the back. He did greet me, but pretty much did his own thing back there while I browsed. The records were generally alphabetical, but grouped in genres. I figured it out since the genre type was not prominent unless you looked at titles. I saw they also carried some movies and cd's, but those seemed to be completely random without any sorting. Although they have a lot of vinyl here, I will say that I've found more organized and helpful places in the Indy metro area than here. If you want to shop in the Kokomo area only, then take a chance to see what you may find. Review #3733
