One of my favorite places to kayak. A somewhat small park near Burton with a nice little launch area onto the Upper Cuyahoga River. On entering the park you want to drive all the way to the back and you will see the river plus there are plenty of parking spaces and a primitive toilet building.
This section of the Cuyahoga is very picturesque. You can head downriver and you will head through some varying scenery until about 2 1/2 miles you will see the bridge carrying Route 422 over the river. This is where I turn back and have never had a problem paddling back. Going upriver most times I have run into obstacles that block the river; I was there the other day and the river was way above flood level which allowed me to paddle all the way to Burton. The river was way over its banks and there were a few areas that looked like a bayou.
If you are looking for a great place to kayak or canoe on a river I would recommend giving the launch at Eldon Russell Park a try. If you don't have your own boat check with Camp High or Crooked River Livery, since I believe that both have rentals that can launch from Eldon Russell. read more
