Hello my husband and I made a move from new york to miami and we have had many problems and we feel scammed we want to claim the money back and that there are no more victims. The first thing is that I send photos with everything there was (furniture) and negotiate with him a fixed price for the furniture plus the boxes, he said that the price was fixed and would not change (I have an email confirming this) and when they got there The workers told us it was 1500usd or they were leaving, they forced me to accept because my circumstances were: my last day of reading and I was all in boxes and my flight left at night. I have broken a table, all the furniture is damaged, the mattress folded in half is totally broken, it has the mark in the middle and you cannot lie down without going to the center (I have photos of everything) They told me that I had to notify 3 days in advance of the day that I wanted the move (I have texts) I notified an OCt 28th for the delivery to be Nov 5th (9 days before) and they arrived Nov 12th. I've had to sleep in a hotel all those days. They have charged me an extra month of storage from the 5th to the 12th (when it was their responsibility that they were not on time, I ordered the furniture in Miami for the 5th day, because I have to pay for the extra time in storage) All the communications with them so that they would speak with the building to send the IOC etc they have never been done, when I called by phone they never answered me and the texts were not. On the day of delivery they arrived with a truck that was so big-unsual (they told us it was so big because it was the last move after 5 more) and since the truck could not enter the building they charged us 400usd extra because they had to walk more than 45 feet, when we said that it was their responsibility to have checked with the building they called the boss, the boss himself insulted us "fuck your mother, fuck you, I am gonna sell your staff away" then we had to pay the 2000usd desperately, we asked him for a bill of all the expenses and they refused to give it to me, they told me to call the boss and he never answered the phone. read more

What a nightmare Unfortunately! Save yourself from this moving company! Our TV Was BROKEN during the transport to our new place. They wrapped it & pretended it was secure! Our digital Picture frame was DESTROYED. If I could give No stars I would. Ivan blatantly lied about the delivery date, it was horrendous. Every time we called they pushed the date back by a week. Once they arrived we paid for a smaller truck to be able to come into our complex. This was a relentlessly exhausting move with this company. I hired Active Moving Inc. (Active) to move home furnishings from 1New York to West Palm Beach, Florida. The company was paid $2,600 in full for these services although the original quote was $1400. The agreement with Active's representative (Ivan) was that the shipment would arrive in seven business days and that it had to be delivered to my condominium apartment on 20th floor Mon thru Fri between the hours of 830a-430p, because of the strict building rules. My goods were picked up by Active on June 20th, 2021. Their employee called me on Friday, July 2nd (which is 10 business days after their pickup and advised me that my goods would be delivered on Saturday, July3rd. I reminded the company's representative (Ivan) several times of the agreement that his goods had to be delivered M-F ONLY because of the building's rules. Despite this, the truck driver called me on Friday 2, 2021 around noon to advise me that delivery will be made on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 despite the instructions given to Ivan. I was threatened with additional "storage fees and moving fees" if I refused to accept his goods on that Saturday. I had to ask the property manager for a special favor however Saturday delivery was not possible but the driver could leave the furniture and items on the loading dock of the building. They were not allowed to take the furniture up to the apartment and consequently I had had to bring all these items to the 20th floor of my condo This endeavor took me about 6 hrs to move all his items shipped to his apartment. In addition, I reinjured my back for which I had several back operations in the past. When contacting the owner (which is sketchy) Alec he informed that Ivan was a nobody and that I had to contact their dispatch regarding the moving instructions. This is a mickey-mouse company that has no scruples and will take your money and leave you high and dry. I will learn from this experience, but wanted to relay my dismay with this company regarding their professionalism and customer service. In Active's case, the consumer comes LAST! Hi - have been reading the horrible reviews and am thankful to everyone sharing their experiences - FORTUNATELY, mine was the opposite. Ivan quoted $2,100 to jump on a move from NY to LA (by far the lowest I had gotten). We had a full storage in the Bronx and when his movers arrived to pick-up, they did try and up the price by $500. (Mind you, they had the full inventory list up front) I said no, I won't be blindsided & given they had already begun moving items out, Moishes would not allow them to return. Ivan was cool and honored our original $2100 and within 2 weeks our items were in LA. Driver kept in close contact and we agreed to meet at storage. He did say if he had to move further than 75 ft I would be charged extra - this was not the case. Will admit I was on the defensive given poor moving experiences in the past, and I was adamant that no additional fees would be paid. Overall good experience with my move. I moved from NJ to Florida. Was quoted 10 days to receive my items, but they arrived in 12. Not a big deal. The men that loaded and unloaded my items were professional and took great care with my items. My ONLY complaint is the difference in price. I spoke with Ivan about what I was moving and my needs. I was quoted $1200 for everything. On the day of the move, I was told that it was going to cost $2000 because of stairs and packing requirements. My quote outlined that I had stairs and the items that I needed to be packed, but that was disregarded. I couldn't really argue because I needed my things moved, but I felt like that was a bait and switch. I'm very disappointed that I had to spend an additional $800. In the future, please make sure the quote matches the actual cost. Edit: i reported my tv broken a day after the movers left and it's been over a month, and I'm still getting the run around about filing a claim about my broken tv. They gave us an estimate over the phone. I asked if they wanted to come over and see the place to do an estimate. Paul said, "unless it's a three bedroom," that would not be necessary. This all changed when the movers came. We added about 15 boxes, medium sized, and our move price jumped by $525, and that was after bargaining. I told them I would pay about $300 over their initial phone estimate. So $20 a box. They went back and forth. Then they left. Their truck had a magnet on the side with their business. They assured me they would be driving their own truck. These guys fit the bill of the fly by night movers. They got my $100 deposit. Paul and Serge are very slippery people. They will not directly answer a question. From a $1485 estimate, they went to $2000 and said 'no one would do better than this.' Well the Penske truck is $1050 the movers here are $500 tip included and the movers in Detroit $150 tip included so we did do better, even if by a little. Ultimately, we didn't trust them with our stuff. There is a lot of FAKE REVIEWS with these guys. Look at ALL THOSE five star reviews that say next to nothing about the move. This is just a friendly reminder, to me as well, of the fraud in online reviews. Look at the DETAIL in the one star reviews. See a mismatch? Jessica R. Why would an NYC based company with no trucks of its own start a move in Kansas and move a piano to Portland Oregon? Seriously. That makes no sense at all. What a terrible experience with this company! I do not recommend to nobody, this company is the worse. First of all they give you a wrong price based on the quote. They failed to ask you important details that will increase price of your moving, then when the date comes somebody tell you that prices had change because there is an stairs or because they missed to add something to the quote by that time you realized that your due date for moving is ahead and you don't have more options. It's pointless to ask talk with the manager due to his lack of sense. So my suggestion do not hire this people. My stuff came a week after the date but nobody was responsible for the delivery date. This moving company experience was the worst! I decided to support the company due to it being family owned. My things were a week late from what they told me when i booked. A WEEK. Imagine a week sleeping on your floor . They are poor at communication, and do not let you know what's happening along the way. The movers are not very nice. They charge extreme amounts more the day of. The staff does not communicate to one another making it difficult for you know know what's happening. I watched him drop my TV! And said nothing. Hired Active Moving Inc for a move from CT to CA. Was quoted by Ivan for 400 cubic ft. I told him our storage unit was 600 cubic ft. Still got quoted the 400 cubic ft price. Was told by Ivan that the packing could have been compressed down to take up less space during the move. Confirmed that the pricing numerous occasions with Ivan. When it came to moving day my pricing increased more than $1200 dollars. (For the record we had expected it to increase due to the 400 cubic ft quote, when we had 600 cubic ft of stuff. However, the $1200 additional was excessive.) First we were told that the boxes the items were packed in were not going to work. We were forced to allow the movers to repack the items into other boxes which wer were charge for. Since we are very meticulous individuals we find it hard to believe that the boxes the items were in did not work. Was charged for the full 600 cubic ft even though a great deal of items were left behind. That did not matter. When I contacted Ivan regarding the move and the additional charges I was ignored. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. FIND ANOTHER. They quote a low price to get your business and then hit you when it comes time to move. There were about 4 guys that picked up my items. Mind you everything was packed up already. They only thing they did was un build the mirror from my dresser, pack up The three flat screens I had and a large huge glass table which thank god it made it in one piece.. I understand shit happens. I had a box a xl box from uhual full of pantry stuff. Can foods, mixes, spices, etc... when I called to ask what happened the lady told me to make sure and look again, mind you everything was already put away. After she tells me to look she mentions to me that the box I had broke apart which it can be possible but don't lie to me and tell me that my can foods 1. Mostly got damaged and 2. They were put in different boxes.. I have called and the lady was really nasty telling me that she could just give me $100... I declined and I'm still waiting on the so called CLAIM FORMS that was suppose to be mailed out. My new elliptical machine torn apart on how careless they handled it. My TV stand cracked everywhere. Worst company I've ever dealt with. Horrible customer service. Over promised and under delivered. I was stressed out the entire time they had our stuff because of how poorly they managed our move. They actually called us 4 days early before pickup and told us they needed to come the next day or else they would cancel the contract. They were VERY aggressive on the phone. We were backed into a corner so we spent all day and night packing. Movers were grumpy and strong armed me through the signature process on contracts. They rushed me through them saying they had to go and stuff was already on the truck. The delivery date time span mysteriously doubled and then I had to pay an extra $600 to get the stuff in an even reasonable amount of time. When they arrived finally I had to pay cash before I could even SEE my stuff. When they opened then door, all our stuff was on a single pallet which had toppled over and everything on the bottom was crushed. Luckily only some cheap stuff was broken Iike glasses, a mop, etc...but it could have easily been worse. I'd easily pay double to avoid dealing with people like this. Not worth the savings. My aunt wanted me to learn Piano so she asked that I find a company that can transport from her home in Kansas to mine in Portland. I asked a friend for a recommendation, I was happy to find that the helper who I called on the phone was very knowledgeable and helped break down the price I was able to write down and then explain to my aunt. My aunt had specific questions about her brand of piano, which I have stuck in my head after speaking with her on the phone so much, it's also catchy, Fazioli hehe Anyway, it arrived yesterday evening and was in tip top shape, I was able to play all the keys to test for my aunt on the phone and she said they sound in tune, I will soon be learning to play songs that were shipped to me in song books. read more

I waited until I unpacked all of my belongings before adding my review. A couple of weeks have passed, and I stand by my original assessment of my interaction with Active Moving. It was unprofessional, at best. I was not properly informed of their business process at several points throughout the move by multiple individuals, which is a nice way to say they lied, and was on the receiving end of a disrespectful conversation with the manager, Alex, which is outlined below. What follows are excerpts from my detailed documentation of my interaction with Active Moving, whom I do not recommend anyone use for moving anything anywhere. It is a long read, but accurate. Please note that I have referred to myself in third person, hence - I am J. Chatmon: April 15, 2018: J. Chatmon received the initial email communication from Active Moving as a result of a web-based inquiry on moving.com of coast-to-coast movers initiated by J. Chatmon in regard to her upcoming move to California. April 16, 2018: J. Chatmon received an email communication from Paul of Active Moving, introducing himself and requesting that I contact him to discuss the details of my impending move April 16, 2018: After a phone conversation, J. Chatmon received another email communication from Paul in the form of a preliminary quote, that outlined an estimate of $1485 for 300 cubic feet and a 2-3 bedroom apartment that would take 7-10 days to complete delivery. May 7, 2018: After a phone conversation with Paul, J. Chatmon received an updated quote of $2745 with a $250 deductible. In this same phone conversation, Paul indicated the move will take place on Saturday, June 16, beginning at 8:30 a.m., or earlier, a $100 deposit was necessary, which was subsequently processed days after this phone conversation, 50% of the total would be due at pick up on June 16, via Anna, and an over-the-phone credit card authorization was possible and indicated that he would email a credit authorization, the remaining 50% would be due upon delivery in the form cash, money order, or certified bank check, the move would take 7-10 days to complete. Paul/Active Moving never sent an updated invoice with the new quote mentioned above During the week of June 4, J. Chatmon called Paul/Active Moving regarding an update of the impending move for Saturday, June 16. In the phone call, Paul assured J. Chatmon that the agreed upon terms of payment, pickup, and duration were still valid. June 15, 2018: J. Chatmon received a phone call from Anna indicating movers were in "the area", and if she "was ready" to move on Friday, instead of Saturday - to which she responded yes. Anna also indicated in this phone call that the payment information process provided by Paul was inaccurate, and that other arrangements would have to be made. When the movers arrived, the original quote of $2745 skyrocketed to $4500 based on cubic feet in the trailer that was not demonstrated, the driver informed J. Chatmon that it was the number of boxes that drove the quote up. When the loading of the truck was complete that evening, the driver informed J. Chatmon that her belongings were being driven to Philadelphia that evening, and would be transferred to another truck that was delivering her items to California. According to that driver, the truck from Philadelphia would leave Saturday, June 16, and would arrive in California 7-10 days later. June 19-22, 2018 - Multiple phone calls and emails were placed to all available numbers with no response until a text response from Anna late on 6/22/18 stating the movers would arrive in 3-4 days. After much back and forth, Alex called J. Chatmon, after sending an email with two attachments, and initiated an unprofessional exchange, which included yelling on his behalf, in which he stated repeatedly that they (Active Moving) had communicated the information about the delivery window to me, and produced a forged document that he alleges J. Chatmon signed on the day of the pickup acknowledging the 7-17 day delivery window. Which did not happen. Two documents were signed on the pickup day, neither of which were the document from which Alex provided a snapshot. Alex also stated repeatedly that perhaps J. Chatmon did not "read" the email messages or "deleted" them. J. Chatmon attempted to get the point across the issue was not with the existing business practice regarding the delivery window, but the fact that this information was not provided prior to the beginning of the move. Alex told J. Chatmon to stop calling the office because she was making everyone "nervous", and did she think that "everyone was working for" her. He also provided an explanation regarding the days included in the delivery window only being Monday through Friday, even though pickups are scheduled for Saturdays, and that the movers "could" arrive July 3-5, including the holiday. My items arrived July 6 - three weeks after they left New Jersey. Do not use this company. read more

I just had a conversation with Jake or some such name. We'd actually already made a decision to go with another company and therefore not pursued using Active Moving, but I'd like to give a 1 star purely out of his response to me politely expressing we'd gone with another company. He then rather than end the call started to berate the other company to the point that I just had to hang up. He then sent me an email about 'spotting dishonest movers'...I assume if I read it it would point me directly to them. I moved from CT to AZ. I received a call from Paul, asking what I needed to move and by when. He quoted me $1100, everything included & delivery would be within the next 7 days. So fast forward to the morning of pickup. The drivers came, took my items and one of them had paperwork for me to sign. Fine, no problem. Then decides to tell me about the fuel charge that's not included. Which, I get all moving companies have this fee. I assumed it was included in everything, as Paul said during our phone call, everything was included. Then this guy asks for a tip. Not that I wasn't planning on it, but how rude to ask! I also asked him when he thought my stuff would be in AZ, he also said within 7 days. So, on day 6 I called because I was told I'd get a phone call 24 hr ahead of time. I'm then told it's going to be another 4 days. I'm annoyed, but whatever. I call again after the 4th day. I'm now told another 5 days! Now I'm mad. I asked the girl at dispatch, why was I told 7 days originally when we're now on 16 days. She said I don't know why Paul said that, he knows across country is minimum 3 weeks. So, finally my things arrived on day 18, 11 days late. There's 2 delivery guys, that tried to get in my apartment complex with an 18 Wheeler truck. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? So the truck doesn't fit. They wanted to charge me $75 to dropped the items off in my apartment because now they'd have to walk more that 75 feet to deliver. Well, I wasn't paying that! I drove my SUV over to their truck to have them transfer the items to my personal truck to drive to my apartment myself. Seeing how mad I was, they agreed to just bring the items to my apartment, no additional charge. Then one guy asked to use my bathroom, and took a crap! Yup, that's right, he took a crap in my toilet. And didn't wash his hands by the way. And of coarse they asked for a tip. As for Paul, you can only get a hold of him PRIOR to your items being picked up. After that he doesn't what to know who you are. As for "dispatch" it's a female, don't know her name. But you call the toll free number & get a voicemail to a NY cell phone. And she never answers. After a couple messages, she'll call you back. read more

Best movers I have used yet! Years ago I hired them to remove a couch through my apartment window which was three stories up. Their price was very fair and they were extremely careful with my sofa. Because they did such a great job I decided to call them 2 years later, (which was a month ago) to hire them to move my belongings from NY to Philadelphia. The move was seamless and yes, the couch had to be removed through the window again. They were quick and did not let me lift a finger...just stay out of their way, these guys have it all under control. They even put our furniture together for no extra charge. I would call them for my next move without even pricing out other options. read more

Well it's a bummer to see nothing but negative reviews on this company, I was actually planning on using them myself for my move from CA back to NY based on my cousin referral. He moved with them and had his stuff safely delivered to San Bruno CA a couple of days ago. Being in the military he had to move multiple times and has a ton of experience, so when he says "dude those guys were awesome" I kinda listen to his words . Anyhow here are the pros that he mentioned: Price was binding and didn't increase upon pick up. I guess they have their own long haul trucks, so delivery was expedited . Pretty good communication with the driver and dispatch along the way. Cons The truck that they brought was huge and could barely make it through the apartment complex, I mean seriously this thing was a size of Boeing 747 lol. One ikea bookcase got a small Crack at the bottom (the company offered a $75 compensation which seemed really reasonable since the thing doesn't worth more than $150 itself). read more

This letter serves as my account of the experience I had with Active Moving, INC. I will start from the beginning, I contracted Active Moving INC on 2/2/2015 with a downpayment of $620.00. My sales representative was Chris. During my vetting period with Chris, I asked him if his company was a broker company. He said no. That was the first inconsistency. The total cost of my move including 10 weeks of storage was $1900, give or take a few dollars. I emailed my contract to Wells Fargo Claims Department. The day of the move arrives, March 26, 2015, and I find that the movers who come to my apartment are from a totally different moving company. I was lied to by Chris. Basically, another company would have been in possession of my items and at that point anything could happen. The head mover comes in and starts adding charges for everything. He went so far as to quote me $40 for tape. That should have been included in the cost already, what moving company doesn't supply tape. I should be clear, this is not tape to secure my boxes but to secure their materials. This is not my first time moving, I have moved across country three times now. He added charges for the wraps to protect furniture. Chris told me my mattresses and furniture will be wrapped, at no charge. That is standard across the board. By the time, the mover finished adding all these cost plus he said I had 700 cubic sq ft and not 380 cubic sq ft, my new price was $3500. He said the only way he could come down on price is if I left my kids bed. My kids bed was confirmed on the list. By coming down on the price, he meant to $2800-$3000. I could not afford it. During, the time of the move I tried to contact Chris several times for help. He hung up on me the first time and then sent me to voicemail every call there after. Before the movers left, I asked about the refund of my deposit and the mover called Chris. Now he answers, to say the mover had to ask their manager if I should get my refund back. I am confused and upset at this point because I did not pay that company. I sat calling back and forth between both companies, only to hear that you are not getting your deposit back, dispute it with your bank. The head mover said the same thing. This company left me in a very bad predicament. I had only three days to move out of my apartment and two of those days were on the weekend. I can now prove that the movers were being deceitful in the move. I successfully had my items moved by another moving company on March 31 2015 and it was only 451 cubic sq ft to be exact. Active Moving handled my move from Queens, NY to Jacksonville, FL. From my first conversation with Paul, in their Brooklyn office, to my last conversation with the 2 gentlemen who unloaded my belongings in Florida, I had nothing but positive interactions. 1) The price was very reasonable ($1500.00 below another 'big name' moving co.) 2) My belongings were carefully wrapped, catalogued and packed by three very professional movers. BEWARE!!!! These are bunch of shady thugs. They bait you into a great price when you call. when they arrive: It's a BIG SUPRISE!! they asked for cash (when I told them I spoke with the representative on the phone, and was told credit card is accepted ) he kept pushing me to go the atm. I threatened to cancel the move. And he folds and agrees to credit card. he then looks over my stuff tried to charge $50 for a box to store the tv, $25 for a box for a bunch of clothes in a garbage bag. - I spoke w the rep over the phone and told him what I had and said we provide all moving equipment products for free. it was all bs. I ended up moving that stuff myself. then... when I thought it couldn't get any worse... when they get to your location they make you sign paperwork and force you to pay double from what was agreed initially; before unloading. $100 dollars for the drive. $200 advance pay for 2 hour unloading. They basically boxed me in using shady leverage. If you disagree they use intimidation / threatening to put it out on the street or in storage. I even thought they might sabotage our belongings, just in how their behavior was. All the while subtlety telling me that they get paid $7 an hour and alluding me to give them a nice tip. I don't know, but I heard, a good / great tip is given when you are treated with respect honesty diplomacy and great service. Your not entitled. Probably the most dishonest seedy moving company I have ever dealt with. Their insurance protects you at 20 cents per pound of damage. I don't think there's much needed to be said about that. First before I begin, I would like to say I went on line and got like 10 different quotes. Online it asks how many rooms and i choose 1 Bedroom apartment not just 1 room!!! The quote was $972. When the movers got there the story changed!! :(SERGEY told my daughter $1500 and she couldn't even take her full bedroom set knowing that everything was packed and ready to go!! I am dealing with these crooks in my driveway right now. originally it was $2500 which we said no to. They kept lowering it until it reached $1900 which we agreed to. Now that the movers are in our driveway it's back up to $2500 with all the "extra space" we took. Thank you to Active moving.... I sent some very expensive items with them and now they are damaged and not working. First off - my brand new motorcycle with 2000 miles on it that now has 3 new very noticeable deep scratches on it. Secondly, my brand new washer - was in perfect working condition the day it was put onto the truck is now damaged - dents all on the top of it and will NOT wash my clothes, it is broken... thanks for that one. Thirdly - my brand new dryer... horrible dents all over the top of the dryer and now it smells like fire when I start it... awesome times. This was our 4th move in Manhattan and was the best experience. The movers were on time, polite and careful with everything. They were the cheapest quote so I was a little concerned, but it was the best move we've had. And it was from a 5th floor walk up. The price quoted was the price we paid, nothing more. My boyfriend and I hired Active Moving, Inc. to take us from central NJ to Brooklyn NY. They provided the lowest estimate (we contacted approx. 10 movers from both NY and NJ) and we decided to risk hiring them to beat the pricey competitors. Although apprehensive at the beginning, once they arrived we realized they were nothing like the negative reviews we read online. Initially we were concerned with their late arrival (by approximately two hours, the weather was bad and the truck broke down so they had to send another truck + crew from NY to NJ) but this wasn't an issue for us as we had a start time of 10am and weren't on a strict schedule. Once they arrived we quickly reviewed everything that was to be moved, and they noted all items that would need additional packaging and explained how each item would be priced (the bed had to be wrapped for about an extra $20 plus the TV stand with glass doors needed to be boxed, which cost about $15 - these were our ONLY extra charges!!). They also wrapped all of our other furniture with blankets and tape for FREE. We went through the estimate, confirmed hourly rates, and signed the papers before they got started. They moved quickly and efficiently, they were respectful, and made sure to treat our belongings with care. On the way to Brooklyn we asked the movers to pick up a dining room hutch that we had purchased at a nearby furniture store. They did this with no complaints. My mom followed the truck in her car while my boyfriend and I drove to the apartment in Brooklyn. She noted they drove slow, but with our (fragile) belongings in the car I'm appreciative of that. We had a tight parking situation, and they did what they could to get the truck as close to our building as possible, working with us to best suit our needs every step of the way. They offloaded our belongings, placed them where they were labeled to go, and unwrapped them. We paid them before they offloaded the truck, and we agreed on an estimated end time since they were paid hourly. Once that time hit, they were out of there! All belongings in place. In total the move took us 4.5 hours, only a half hour over the initial estimate (and likely due to our extra stop at the furniture store). I highly recommend this company if you're looking to pay on the cheaper end and still want a decent level of quality. They're not going to lay down the red carpet for you, but for the price it's a great deal! Highly highly recommended. Also, for those of you who are concerned with this, they were all in "Active Moving, Inc." sweatshirts and the truck was labeled with the company logo - no sketchy random men or trucks. read more

Active Moving, Inc did the NY to CT leg of a cross country move. (Because of this I have no idea what their fee's are as they were hired for this leg of the move by the moving company who picked my things up). When Active Moving, Inc arrived, they loaded all inside with care and they put the legs back on my furniture (tables etc.) without me even having to ask them to do so. (I have no idea if this is standard. But, as it made unpacking less of a chore, was welcomed, so sharing). They were professional, thorough and friendly. read more

Only use this company if you don't mind being lied to by implication and flat out, bullied on the day of the move, not being able to contact your sales rep or customer service the day of the move, and if you think $1500 is "only $1500". I'm moving from NYS to Or. Active's sales rep quoted me a binding estimate of $4,468.65, which included full packing. I asked if Active could do an in-home assessment and he said no, the info was sufficient, because they'd done this so many times. I asked what if I had more than I was estimating? He said it was a BINDING estimate, and I wouldn't ever pay more than that. Based on this, and the fact that Active Moving had a BBB rating of A+ , I decided to hire Active, and paid Active a deposit of $1,292. The move was March 3. When the truck arrived, I called my sales rep to tell him they were there, and asked if that was the truck for the whole move. He said my things would be reloaded on an 18-wheeler for the trip. I told him he'd said my things would be on one truck for the entire move, and he said, yes, after they were shifted to the 18-wheeler they stayed on that one. I said most people interpreted "one truck for the whole move" as "not changing trucks at all". My sales rep basically said, "Oh." Things degenerated from there. The movers (who all spoke Russian as their first language) took one look at my things and the foreman promptly made a phone call in Russian, then said his boss said he couldn't do the move for less than $6,000. I said I had a binding estimate of $4,268.65. The foreman said they couldn't do it for that. I told them they could leave and I called my sales rep. My sales rep said he'd see if they could resolve this. After 10 minutes on hold, I hung up and tried customer service. I told the woman in CS what had happened and said I wanted to cancel and get back my deposit. She told me several times, very clearly, that I could not get my deposit back. My sales rep never called back. All my things were packed, I'd been told I couldn't get my deposit back, and that I'd have to pay $1,730 over what I'd been told was the top amount I would have to pay. I pointed out again that I had a BINDING ESTIMATE, to absolutely no reaction but shrugs. The foreman said I had a lot more stuff than the estimate of 667 cubic feet. Now I'm in the middle of a move with the choice of losing my deposit or paying a lot more money. The foreman got on the phone again (in Russian) and finally told me I could pay a flat rate of $5,800 for the entire move. I couldn't get hold of my Active rep, my move was being held hostage, and either way I was going to lose money. Under this stress, I finally agreed to the flat rate $5,800 for the move. When everything was packed and loaded, I asked how many cubic feet it was, and the foreman told me the total was about 737 cubic feet - only 70 cubic feet more than the original estimate. The next day I called my sales rep at Active. I left a message saying I'd like to talk to him and resolve the amount I'd been overcharged. He didn't call back, so I looked up the owner of Active Moving and called him. When I tried to explain what had happened and what I wanted, he promptly started talking and hardly let me get a word in: They're a company and have to make money. That I'd signed off on the $5,800. That he couldn't refund any money. That if I'd called on the day of the move, I could have just cancelled. When I said I would have lost my deposit, he said no, I wouldn't have. I said his customer service rep said I couldn't get my deposit back. He kept saying I would have. I finally said, "Sir, your own employee told me I would not." I said I had a binding estimate from his company. He said yes, but that on the day of the move the movers gave me a NEW BINDING ESTIMATE. He said it cost more than my binding estimate because it's such a long move, and that hardly anyone goes to Oregon. I said I was going to report him to the Better Business Bureau. He wasn't afraid of the BBB or anyone. He also said "Why are you so upset - it's only another $1500." Eventually the owner of Active Moving answered my BBB complaint with "the customer insisted on a flat rate". Another wait for the business to respond when I replied I had NOT. This time I got a phone call from a woman at Active Moving who wanted to know what would make me happy. I said a refund of what I was overcharged. She said they couldn't do that, but could send me a check for $100 "as a courtesy". I said no. She also claimed "no one wants to go to Oregon", which is just plain ridiculous: "Oregon was the top destination for people who moved out of state in 2014, according to a study from United Van Lines that tracked 128,000 moves. The moving company found that 66% of all interstate moves in Oregon were from people moving into the state, rather than leaving it. It's the second year in a row that Oregon tops the list." read more

I recently contacted Budget Van Lines for an out of state move. I thought they would be the ones but quickly learned they were brokers. They used Native Moving Co. whom whom picked up our furniture two days later- very pleased with the quick turnaround. I later heard from Active that they would be the deliverer. I became concerned since my furniture would now have moved from one truck to another truck. Nonetheless nothing could be done at this point. Now almost doubled the cost of what I was initially quoted the damage was already done - so I thought. The deliverer ACTIVE Moving Co. as I pointed out the damage to them said they were just delivering and were not responsible for the damage that occurred or some of the wrapping used by Native. The individual was unprofessional, disrespectful and left all my furniture in the garage and dining room. He did not place the boxes/totes in the rooms nor did they reinstall any of the furniture claiming it was not his job. He then asked whether the movers had done the work I was asking for, to which I stated yes but no action occurred. I was assured that it was all part of the services provided. The legs of my server, dining room chairs, table, bedroom dresser, headboard show signs of dragging alongside of drops causing major damage. Although many of the totes were cracked none of the items within were broken. In addition when they removed the blankets from the furniture they did not take any of the tape and when asked if they would they said "it was mine to keep."
