Turning left (northbound) from the main road through the park, you cross over between two reservoirs and find yourself in a wooded area with pine needles strewn across the floor. The Visitor Centre offers good information on the geography, history and wildlife found in the park, and is a great place to bring children. This is a popular place for tourism and school trips: so be warned. Perhaps go on a week day. But all the attention means that the staff really know their stuff. Any question on the park should be met with good answers. They also have a good amount of information of activities, events and walks that can be experienced, and also about the Taff Trail and camping grounds. There is a small tearoom and several gift items to purchase. Perhaps this visitor centre isn't worth the drive by itself, but it's a great springboard into the rest of the park. Stop here before you start you major explorations.

The visitors center is small but comprehensive and the staff…read moreare very helpful, I would advise popping in here when you arrive to get a walks leaflet or to ask the staff about which is the best way to go. Situated on the recovered Newport-Monmouth canal you can walk southwards through woodland towards Bettws and Newport (there is a two hour circular walk here coming back through the golf course) or take the canal side path northwards and carry on for as long as you like towards Monmouth! Both routes have great views over Newport and good wildlife, last time there I saw a kingfisher. Free parking at the canal center, toilets and cafe.

An unsung gem of the Welsh countryside (you'd be amazed how many people haven't heard of this place…read more- don't remain one of them). Park up at the visitor centre (£1) and take a long relaxing walk along the dam's retaining wall - with picturesque views down across the lower valley - or for a much more enriching experience, park on the access road on the other side of the reservoir, which you'll find by taking the B4501 from Denbigh. Apart from having access to the forest walk, there's a plethora of Bronze Age remains - cairns and burial mounds, and a ritual temple - to be found on the well-signposted archaeological trail. Interestingly, only 20 people were ever buried at this location during a 500 year period. You eventually work your way round to the visitor centre, housing a free interpretative exhibition, with a handy cafe and a toilet complex, attached. Whatever the weather (and we've been there on the wintriest of days) it's a fascinatingly eerie (drowned villages always are, somehow) and beautiful spot.

The roadway around part of the Llyn makes for easy walking for beginners but for the more adventurous there are plenty of other pathways too. A great place to cycle too if that's your bag.

If you go in the mill itsself there is little things to do for the kids, they actually do hold special events here for kids also, usually in the holidays. They also sell drinks sweets crisps and ice cream. It is a great place to come if you like wildlife, the clywedog trail runs right through here from minera on to bersham. If you have not walked the trail then you should, living in wrexham does have benefits, honestly!

There is also a fishing lake and a mountain bike trail. The views from the top are incredible! There's a fairly new visitor centre and cafe at the foot of the drive.
