Situated right in the heart of the Brecon Beacons' glorious countryside, this is a reasonably sized visitor centre. Turning left (northbound) from the main road through the park, you cross over between two reservoirs and find yourself in a wooded area with pine needles strewn across the floor.
The Visitor Centre offers good information on the geography, history and wildlife found in the park, and is a great place to bring children. This is a popular place for tourism and school trips: so be warned. Perhaps go on a week day.
But all the attention means that the staff really know their stuff. Any question on the park should be met with good answers. They also have a good amount of information of activities, events and walks that can be experienced, and also about the Taff Trail and camping grounds.
There is a small tearoom and several gift items to purchase. Perhaps this visitor centre isn't worth the drive by itself, but it's a great springboard into the rest of the park. Stop here before you start you major explorations. read more
