Haunted Chester - A Stop on the Chester Ghost Tour

    Haunted Chester

When you blindfold yourself, do things cease to exist just because you cant see them? There are…read moreundoubtedly things which are and will always remain unexplained. If history has taught us anything, it's that the more we find out about the world around us the less we know. Arrogance in our "knowledge" of the world makes us rather redundent when it comes to a phenomenon that is as old as time. Ghosts, Spirits, Poltergeists................ Thus despite the idea of ghosts or paranormal activity being dumbed down through film, the idea in its simplicity chills us to the core. Whether we like it or not or whether we choose to or not. Chester is however arguably the most haunted place on this Island of ours. I remember my first ever trip there and I had no idea that it was infact the most haunted place in the country. Yet I do remember walking the walls of the city thinking, I would NOT like to be walking around here at night!!!!!! Whether you go on the ghost tour or not I urge you to read a plethora of stories/events that have been documented here. Let me tell you I've read a few, and it did send a few chills down my spine as I recalled some of my visits. In fact as I write this an uneasy feeling washes over me. The story of Sarah who frequents a chocolate shop which stands to this day has haunted me from the moment I read it. Why do these stories have so much power over us? The mind boggles. So if you are a horror film fan like me. Don't bother with the next blockbuster. Go on their website read a few stories and if you dare go on one of the ghost tours which happens every saturday night 7:30, lasting an hour & half. Better still why don't you arrange a tour of your own, the geography of ghost sightings is no secret. Why not walk the walls yourself around midnight?? I dare you, I double dare you!!!!!!!

June 2019 gullet Turkey trip not at that level. We had a very poor guide in all respects except archeological expertise and also a first time crew. Combined, they disembarked my husband and two friends on an obviously unsafe floating dock which was lurching in waves and did not reach the beach on the very first day. The two friends went into the water and my husband sustained a bad leg injury trying to avoid the waves. Later landing parties went to an attached dock to which a small landing fee applied. The guide never acknowledged his terrible judgment in permitting this unsafe disembarking and at the end of the trip shrugged at me saying, "these things happen." My husband did not make even one excursion. After we hiked to the marvelous site of Patara, we realized the guide could easily have arranged a car to get my husband there so he could have seen it as well. Yet the guide was mystified when we complained he had not thought of this. The man is an excellent archeologist, but he rotely moves through the tour with no flexibility or attention to the guests. Our trip was spoiled by guide Serdar's lack of guiding skills.

You travel back to a world of dairy maids, needlewomen, candle making and creaking floorboards. Last time I visited this wonderful place, I remember very clearly that on the trip there storm clouds burst overhead and lightening threatened the trees. Then when we arrived, the sun came out as we parked, and my resounding memory of the manor is it bathed in sunlight with black clouds behind. This is a lovely building with pretty grounds. The staff here are fantastic. Never for one moment do they slip out of characters as they take groups of people on a fun and informative tour of the house. As a child, I was actually convinced I was back in time and kept poking the poor dairy maid to see if she was real. There are also loads of events going on here, such as Oscar Wilde plays, craft events and Napoleonic re-enactments. So check out their website to see if anything's coming up before you plan your trip.
