Shell Island is a huge campsite that my husband and I have visted a lot. The campsite extends…read moreacross a huge area from sand dunes to a causeway there is lots to see and many different camping expreinces to be had. You can have a wild time or a sedate and quite time. We prefer a calmer time whilst camping so stay well away from the sand dunes which tends to be over run with teenagers making noise. We're happy for them do it and don't want to complain so choose the other side of the island where we're unlikely to be disturbed. Plus the views are better on the other side of the island. As you enter the campsite we turn left towards the harbour and camp on that end of the Island. There is a great little beach there that hardly anyone else visits, you can mooch around the harbour and get great views of Harlech castle without being disturbed. I wouldn't visit during any of the school holidays or bank holiday as the whole place is packed out and at times you have to queue up the causeway just to get on and off the island. There are a few shops on the island (an ice cream shop, a beachwear/surf shop/camping shop and a mini supermarket) which can be handy but we tend to arrive fully stocked. The pub is okay, we tend to drink off the island or the beach with out BBQ. We ate at the cafe once and I'd say avoid at all costs. Shower are free as are the toilets. They are largely kept clean and tidy. Also on dotted across the site are portaloos which are great when a bit drunk and not in the mood for the long walk up to the toilets. The portaloos are kept clean and emptied often. I've never had a problem with one and I'm quite prissy. Shell Island is perfect for a weekday camping getaway outside of the summer holidays.

Boring, outdated and dull holiday resort. Unless you're over 60 and have a caravan, I wouldn't…read morerecommend it.

This is a lovely Family run camp site. We went there in a Pod which was fab!…read more There are no static caravans there, purely tents, touring and Pods are there if you'd prefer. For the pod it was £40.00 per night, you need to bring everything with you (beds, bediing etc), there is electricity and there are 2 plug sockets spare, a heater and a TV. There are the normal facilities such as showers, toilets, drinking water etc. The site is extermely clean and the toilets are too. There is always hot water (Gas heated) apart from our first day - freezing showers lol (There for a week). There is no on-site entertainment but further down the road there is a club with entertainment, bingo etc, shop, take-away etc which is available for all the camp sites on that road. Sunny Sands camp site lets people from Tyddyn Goronwy Camping use their swimming pool although you are a 2 minute walk away from the beach. Would definately go again, owners are lovely. There was loud music very late at night/early hours on our last night and the owner went out to sort it out with the threat that if they carried it on, they would leave.

Absolutely disgusted with the gentleman who runs this camp site! After arriving and going to pay we…read morefound out his prices had gone up over 150% from last time we stayed so we promptly decided to leave and try another camp site as we was in no position to pay his prices so we moved on to the next camp site who's prices were much more reasonable but after giving our number plates to them we was informed we couldn't stay there as they had just been informed that we had smashed up the toilets on the camp site at tyddyn goronwy the year before! We was speechless. They told us it was the gentleman from the camp site we just left. We can't believe how petty and underhanded this guy was just because we couldn't afford his prices. All I can say is we eventually found a camp site across the road a lot more modern and cheaper so in a way we fell lucky. Please anyone who's thinking of stopping here please don't this guy is a crook and there a plenty of camp sites better and cheaper than this crooks! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
