Elan's candy is delicious! I tried a 3 pack and enjoyed each selection. When I walked in there was no wait. They have a glass counter/display that shows their options. I checked their website first see what I wanted to try. I noticed they closed early in the season and they're off during the summer. That's a bummer! I wish they had staff who could accommodate the summer crowd! read more

I recieved a beautiful box of Elan Chocolate Candies for Christmas from my Husband and they brought such joy to us. We had the varriety of candies and all were fresh, using creamy dreamy chocolate and the crisp of the taffy. Although the chocolates were shelf stable, they did not last us very long. So on a quick side note Elan Candies was suppose to be my #100 review in 2013 because I love this place so much but somehow I got behind with my reviews and I now sit here writing this as my #83...so close but so far away...sad face:( Now to the review! Wow I can't believe there's no reviews yet for Elan Candies, this is some top notch rich buttery toffee made with roasted Georgian pecans here people! Only open October - April, they don't sell this amazing candy in stores so you must order online or come into the store where they are making it. Cash or Check ONLY They sell them in one pound, half pound and 1oz mini boxes. You can get a box of just toffee called Elan, or dipped in Milk Chocolate or dipped in Dark Chocolate. You can get a box with all 3 inside (called Triple Mix) or anyway you like. I love the toffee all the ways they make it and usually always get myself a one pound Triple Mix every year for the holiday....and I don't share mine but I do buy a lot of my friends and family some as gifts. I don't normally like toffee. As a kid it was my mother's favorite and a chocolate lover, I would pinch her stash from time to time but was chronically disappointed. Then came Elan. My husband brought a box home the other day and once I saw it was toffee I was prepared to take it to work. Not to seem ungrateful, I tried one. It was very good. The toffee isn't as hard as traditional toffee. And the pecans give it a richer flavor. The chocolate is also tasty. I see why this spot is beloved by so many. read more

Their products are absolutely delicious but I recommend double checking your orders before getting them home. This is the second time I've asked for boxes of milk chocolate Elan and received mixed boxes instead (i.e. half the box had milk chocolate and the other half was plain toffee with no chocolate coating). This is an expensive gift/treat and to get the wrong items twice is a huge disappointment. I hope they will try to do better in the future. read more

Ok, Im not a chocolate candy consumer. However, my good friend Asia Browner referred me to your quaint spot to get my wife some candy. So, I got there and there was a line outside of the door (always a good sign right), when I finally got in the door I was greeted by a young lady with a big smile inviting me to try a sample. No thank I replied to her...she gave me the options available for purchase. I bought a box for my wife. Later that evening while watching television, she opened it up and because she is a kind woman asked if I would want some, again I said no thank you. I changed my mind and asked for a little bite, I took a tiny piece of candy and made an ugly face of disgust. I quickly came to my senses and asked for more. Fast forward to now, I will buy them and she will hide them from me and will not share any with me. Elan Candies, you don't realize your impact on a marriage. a co-worker brought some plain elan to work about 24 years ago, and i was immediately hooked. every time she went to grosse pointe afterwards, i had her bring some back to me. on my birthday, she brought me a pound box. every chance i get, i order some to keep in the house. when i discovered elan, we could buy it in july. so sorry they can't make it year around, and keep it refrigerated, as i do at home. i tried the different varieties, but plain elain, if there is such a thing, is my one and only. it's a sin to cover such a delectable treat with chocolate.. i was not surprised when it was voted the best candy in town on channel 4's 4thebest contest. please maralyn, make it all year and keep it refrigerated in hot weather. i'm sure, the world would make a path to your door. read more

I was introduced to Elan Candy when I worked for a group of neurosurgeons about 15 years ago. I was hooked with the first bite of milk chocolate elan toffee. Who knew I liked toffee? The toffee is so smooth , rich and tastey. My husband likes plain toffee but I am a big milk chocolater elan fan. It is like a fine wine. You take a bite and savor the taste as long as possible, it's that good. I have always done my ordering thru the mail and last year on-line. Candy arrives quickly after you order (within 2 or 3 days, I am in northern Illinois) and always "just what you ordered." I can't wait for the holidays for my favorite Elan candy as part of the fun. I'm also a candy editor for my job, so this was like being a kid in a candy shop, no pun intended. I was specifically looking for Fruit Stripe gum, since the company decided to discontinue it. They unfortunately did not have it but they had a plethora of other pretty cool candies and chocolates. I ended up buying a few peanut butter cups that I had never seen before, a Hot Tamales candy cane for my fiance, some coconut strip things for myself, and a few other goodies. If money was no object, I also would have bought the Ted Lasso branded candies and ALL of the Golden Girls stuff, as that's one of my favorite TV shows. They had a nice selection of freeze-dried candy as well, which is a new trend, but they were a little expensive, at $7.99 per bag. The saleslady was very friendly here as well and asked if I had any questions or needed help with anything, when I was in the store. I wish I had visited here earlier in my Clawson residency, but I will definitely be back.

The dogs are also a bit much (see photo of dog being allowed to put its snout and paws on the counter), and the owners who bring them tend not to care about the people without pets. Other than that though, the price point and flavors are always good. There are much better ice cream spots for bringing a date, but if you're bringing a family (YUCK), then this is probably more your speed.
