I first heard about this place a few years ago, when my very tall husband, who never stands up straight, had to come here for an adjustment because he was walking like Madonna when she first gets out of bed. After that, my stepson, who also never used to stand up straight, came here, and suddenly, is walking better, standing perfectly straight, and looking all round much better for it all. So when lower back pain started troubling me a few weeks ago, so much so that I was having trouble going on walks with the hubby, I figured it was time to head in. Like most chiropractic practices, the fees are not cheap, however, in many cases, if you are referred from your GP, your cost is free or reduced. You can also claim the cost back on any private insurance you may have. However, the clinic is a lovely place, with some of the nicest receptionists I've ever met in my life - these ladies are so sweet and efficient, you want to stay round for milk and cookies. There are changing areas to put on the sexy little gown with which you'll confront your torturer, who will seem very nice at first, and care a lot about your problems, before they break your back and throw you on the huge pile of bodies while cackling maliciously. Or, just fix your back so it doesn't hurt, which is what happened to me.

I'd been to my local surgery for the first ear infection but when it returned I really didn't have time to go back to the doctor. It also returned during a Friday evening and there was no way I was going to wait until Monday morning with the amount of pain I was in. So I took myself off to this walk in centre on a soggy Saturday afternoon with very little hope of a good outcome but I was totally wrong. I didn't have to wait too long to see a very professional and knowledgable nurse. She diagnosed the problem immediately including the fact that the condition kept reoccurring. She offered some good advice to stop the infection coming back and a nice ear spray. Job done in super quick time.

But, to some of us it's a dreaded place as we just know that we are going to be made to feel like the world's biggest hypochondriac and liar for asking them to check out something as trivial as an infected insect bite. To have 6 or so batty old nurses clawing at you like you have herpes when you know for a fact you were bitten by an angry spider which was caught in your bed sheets is not a pretty sight. I also went there recently as I'd ran out of contraceptive pills and they turned me away. Both my doctors and the clinic, which are also in Boots, were closed as it was a bank holiday. I ended up having an argument with a difficult female pharmacy assistant upstairs before a younger, male pharmacist stepped in and told her that they could issue me with the pills if I bought them and then brought my prescription in at a later date. Thanks for that lady, now everyone in the queue knows my personal information! They should have just seen me at the NHS Walk-in, which is next to my doctors, which is next to the family planning clinic! There needs to be better correlation between these three. It's ridiculous and I am hesitant to go back again.

Staff: I have always had a good experience with the staff, Dr Balraj, Dr Mita, Nurse Dawn, etc, are all very kind. The receptionists are also kind. Waiting times: They have usually not been an issue - if I arrive on time, I am seen within 10 minutes. Pharmacist: There's a pharmacist next door so you can easily get your prescriptions.

Result! The strange thing was, rather than my local NHS Physio offering (City Hospital), I was sent to Aston Pride Community Health Centre. This ended up being a plus, rather than a negative it seems! The appointment time I was originally offered wasn't really suitable around work, so I gave them a bell and was handily given my choice of appointment times. All pretty convenient - additional result. The Surgery is a bit of a pain to get to for me (I don't drive), but would be about 5 minute cab ride from the City Centre or accessible by a fair few bus services (which drop off right next to the Surgery). The Centre is fairly modern looking, but could probably do with a bit of tidying up. That being said, you don't go to a Health Centre and judge their internal design. The Staff were efficient and helpful and the Physio I ended up seeing (Emrah) was patient, kind and knowledgable. If you do need to be referred here for any of their services, I hope you too will find the service as easy to use and friendly as I did!

I ended up crying in pain in the corridors and the physio told people I was fine! She was more interested in updating the computer, telling me about her holiday and worrying about the next patient than doing any physio!! £45 for 30 mins of humiliation and pain. Went to another Nuffield and they were superb. Will do a write up on them too! If you go, do complain if the treatment is poor. I only had one physio appointment there but it was enough to know I will never go back. shudders
