ALL staff I spoke to were very very pleasant and helpful. Walking through the corridors I am so impressed with the cleaniness and how diligent the cleaners are. Even the receptionists cleaned their work area. The restaurant was also very clean, and were clearing and cleaning the seating areas regularly. Not so weird now, is it? I have lived in town 6 years now and was chuffed to bits when I finally got a Doctor's surgery open up within walking distance. Located on the downstairs floor of Boots, from the moment you walk in you can sense the efficiency. You MUST book an appointment, however, if you are desperate and there are no appointments available - there is a walk-in clinic right next door. I have been going here for several years now and have only been delayed for an appointment once. The appointment times are pretty convenient, but as you can imagine; it's a very busy surgery. If you don't require an emergency appointment, it's best to call after 10am - if you do, call as early as possible. I've regularly had appointments the same day or the next day. The worst thing is not having a dedicated Doctor. The Doctor's and Nurses have always been great, but it would be nice to have someone you have dealt with before when you revisit. That being said, I've found this surgery to be clean, reliable and accommodating in terms of opening hours.

The staff on reception are very pleasant, although the morning I went to register there was only one so the wait was long. Intake assessment is a few forms and measuring your own height, weight and blood pressure. I gave myself 3 attempts at getting a nice BP measurement as the horrific prospect of knowing my weight after over a year of avoidance had sent my systolic sky-rocketing. I returned the following week to see if I was set up and had been given an NHS number and was told I was good to go. I asked to be set up for the online booking. First of all they gave me the wrong details, so I had to go back. When they gave me the proper ones, my account had the wrong address and they'd misspelled my name. I also had no option to book appointments. They fixed the errors when I emailed but told me to call about the booking. After 15 minutes on hold I was cut off and gave up. Multiple emails went unanswered. Eventually went back on and they reset it or something so could book. At last! It's not too easy to get an appointment if you work. The extended hours don't really seem to translate to appointments at those times. You could definitely be waiting weeks. On arrival for your appointment, you check in using a touch screen which saves time. It gives an estimate of the time to wait but that was actually wildly inaccurate when I went. It claimed things were running to schedule but there was actually a 20 minute wait. I occupied myself by almost getting trapped in their bathroom which has a very dodgy lock and using the Boots free WiFi. Actual consultation was adequate. I kind of missed the pleasant GPs in the random walk-in clinics in Canada or my lovely one at home. This definitely feels more like a walk-in effort. All in all, it's alright. Reception are friendly and it's nice to book online, even if it ends up being for the far distant future.

Practically a village hospital compared to the monoliths at New Cross and Russells Hall…read more If you've ever had the misfortune of being treated at New Cross (and if you have and are still reading this, I salute you for still being alive and not dying from some dreadful infection you almost certainly came out with), or drawn the short straw and had to visit Russells Hall, you'll understand what a blessing it is to be able to visit a hospital where there is plenty of parking, friendly staff, reasonable waiting times (in comparison to everywhere else) and a relatively clean feel to the place. This is how I'd describe Telford's Princess Royal. Yes, I'm sure there are lots of you reading this that disagree with me totally, but I want to make just one comment - well done to Princess Royal for at least making an effort and pleasing one of your customers.

As a person who comes from a place that has no local hospitals (the nearest is an hour away, and…read morethat's a country hospital, so it's pretty small), the HUGENESS of the place baffled me at first. The inpatient food isn't bad, especially the puddings, but they only have a two week menu. I'd recommend a jacket potato, and avoid the sandwiches. (sounds silly but when you spend a lot of time In hospital you need to know these things.) Everybody here is supportive and will try their best to keep you in the know about what and why is happening. I have never sat there with an alarm bleeping for more than five mins. This is a fantastic achievement by the busy staff who will do everything to keep you comfortable. I would recommend this place to anyone who doesn't like hospitals, this place knows you don't want to be there, and ensures that your visit will be as short as possible without you having to come back too soon.

There's loads of glass and space, it's very bright. There's a Costa Coffee, a WH Smiths and a cafe right by the doors as well as a handy information desk. Outside is also a fruit and veg stall that's great value for money. The hospital is well sign posted, so you can easily find what department you're looking for. Outpatients has colour coded chairs in the waiting areas so you know where to sit. There are also staff that are very friendly and willing to help you if you need it. The hospital is well served by public transport, with buses to Halesowen, Solihull, Birmingham and West Brom as well as being a couple of minutes walk from University station on the cross city line. There is a car park but it's very expensive. There are disabled spaces by the main entrance but there aren't many of them and the road can get very busy with cars and buses. A couple of years ago I broke my ankle (the "most spectacular broken ankle" according to the doctor in A&E) and was taken here. I was seen quickly by the doctors in A&E and x-rays were done fast as was the setting off the bones and the plaster cast. It took about two hours all together (I think, I was still very drunk at the time). I had to spend a week in hospital before surgery. The wards were clean and the nurses were friendly. The surgeon who fixed my ankle explained the procedure and was very helpful. Now there were some issues with my stay. Firstly, the food is awful. I found myself getting my husband to take me down to Costa to buy panini's in the evening. Secondly, I found the doctors who looked at my ankle talked over me. They would come in, have a poke around and then leave without saying a word to me. Thirdly, the date of my surgery kept changing, which is very frustrating when you just want to go home. Fourthly, I was given crutches but not shown how to use them so the first time I tried to take myself to the bathroom I lost my balance and tried to steady myself with my broken ankle. I've been back regularly since being discharged as an outpatient and for physiotherapy. I've been well looked after and received great care from the staff that I've seen.

Within 2 hours I had my appointment with Dr Mohammed (as requested) for a day that suited me. My appointment as always was superb, Dr Mohammed always remembers me, gives excellent advice and gives the best (pain free) hydrocortisone injections! I have been with this practice all of my life and seen them grow from Dr Mr and Dr Mrs Mcrann. to the state of the art care they now offer. yes, they get busy, but if needed a doctor will always see you. The reception staff are patient, kind and caring too.

Without wanting to bore you too much with…read moremy medical history (which is rather boring anyway and mainly consists of dodgy throats and the occasional jippy shoulder) I can say that every doctor I've seen here has been absolutely lovely - even when I've got carried away and misdiagnosed myself with something rare and life threatening (the joys of looking up symptoms on Google eh?) and it turns out all I've got is a slight case of tonsillitis. Which kills by the way. It's a big place with regular smoking cessation, diabetes and stress clinics. They have a team of very nice nurses and the reception staff are smiley and kind. They used to play rather annoying muzak but seem to have stopped that in recent years, although the kiddies soft toy play area can sometimes get a bit noisy - not ideal if you are a migraine sufferer. You can always get an appointment - the only downer is the lack of reading material - Golf magazines and leaflets on COPD feature heavily. Hopefully you won't need to use a doctor much, but if you do find yourself looking for one in the Harborne area, then this comes recommended.

However sadly I cannot recommend this surgery at all. It started changing during COVID which was standard for all surgeries I believe. But I've had such problems trying to see a doctor. Indeed I haven't seen a GP now for nearly 5 years. I've used 111 when I was desperate and on occasion gone to A&E which I don't really want to as they are stretched enough. My last telephone appointment resulted is the doctor emailing a leaflet to me as the solution to a problem that is still not resolved. I also understand that 4 Doctors have transferred to the Manor practice from here. Heaven knows how elderly people get on. It appears that the GPs are inaccessible.

As a patient at this practice for over 20 years (man and boy etc) and having heard some of the…read morehorror stories of friends experiences with doctors, I can say that I am more than happy with the treatment and service I receive at James Preston. The building itself houses two practices, Manor and Vesey. A lady who did some work there once told me that the receptionists for both practices, even though they sit behind the same counter, are very separate to the point of not just having separate stationery but having separate Christmas parties. Strange tribal behaviour aside, the doctors of the Vesey practice have, by and large, always been helpful and approachable. I won't go into details of my medical history but there are times when I've been helped in far more constructive ways than being thrown on medication or told to 'pull myself together' or any of that nonsense. The practice nurses are all lovely too should you need a spot of ear-syringing or the odd stitch removing. A doctors surgery isn't the sort of place you want to have to visit too often but if you ever have to, the Vesey Practice is a safe pair of hands to be in.
