Carlito Burrito - Acapulco is very beautiful. No, that is the cocktail. Brighton Gin, lychee liqueur, passion fruit syrup, hibiscus. Would drink again.

Since this place cropped up a few months ago, I've been dying to try it! As a lover of Mexican…read morefood, I am always happy to welcome new Mexican joints to the city - especially ones that look as vibrant and enticing as Carlito Burrito. I went in for dinner here on a Wednesday night and the place was completely packed. We got seated (just!) at a lovely big table in the window, decked out in a colourful, bright table cloth. The restaurant, being rather small, was buzzing and had a great atmosphere about it. Now, I wasn't that hungry when I arrived but as soon as you walk through the door and smell that food, I wager that anyone's stomach would start to rumble. The menu is perfect - just enough to satisfy most customers but not overwhelmingly large. I opted for a pork burrito and, let me say, I was not disappointed by my choice. First let me say that I've been on the hunt around Brighton for a top-notch burrito for a while now, so whenever I sit down to try one, my expectations are high! There's a lot that can wrong with a burrito, so it can be a bit underwhelming, but then, there's a lot that can go right... Carlito Burrito have nailed it (as they should have, considering they even have burrito in their name). My meal was packed full of flavour and texture, staying piping hot throughout and was just the right amount for a hungry person. Granted, it was an absolute nightmare to eat - my friends were no doubt ashamed to be sitting with me by the end of it, my hands and face covered - but the mess is so so worth it!! My friends had the fish tacos which looked gorgeous and apparently tasted delicious as well, but were certainly a smaller portion, so if you're looking for something filling then the burrito is the choice for you! It's been a few days now and I'm still thinking about that meal. I'm so thrilled that I've finally found an epic Brighton burrito (though my physique my not be thanking me in a few months time). Being new to Brighton, it was great to see this place thriving as well! Carlito Burrito is well worth a visit! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and hands down the tastiest Mexican food I've tasted yet in Brighton! Get there! Quickly!

It seemed we were really a nuisance to them! Drinks were sent back as at £8.95 for a cocktail i expected something very much better, no ice, luke warm and little flavour despite pre- ordering spicy! Replacement brought with a huff! Plates for starters were dirty, olives fermenting and wings just ok. Mains were better but lettuce, cheese and add ons for fajitas arrived well before the food and got warm and were small and uninteresting. Mains were ok but the bill was extortionate for the quality. Wouldn't go back far better restaurants in town with much better front of house service.

Pachangas offers truly authentic Mexican cuisine with imaginative recipes and great ingredients. A long fully loaded cocktail bar offers a large range of large and strong cocktails all made by hand to order. Kali the barman was great and clearly had a passion for what he was doing. Carlos the owner has been in the trade for several decades and his latest offering is a must try. If you like real Mexican food you will love this. I have lived and travelled extensively in Central America and this is as good as you will find in the UK. The restaurant although rather dull from the outside is wonderfully bright using some vibrant Mexican colours for the decor. Great up tempo music and clever lighting make a great ambience. Ely from South America served us and she was very smiley efficient and helpful. We ordered the Calamari to start which was tender and superbly presented. The pulled pork main was a highlight. A table next to us order the ribs and a huge rib-steak so there are a few dishes for those who don't want to do the full Mexican thing. A must is the fried planton as a side. If you want even hotter spicy food + ask Carlos he can really ramp it up or alternatively tone it down if you are the boiled cabbage variety. A nice touch they use corn flour rather than wheat flour so much of the menu is GF. For smokers there is an outside dining area. There is also ample public parking right behind the restaurant. Book at weekends as it is usually full! In summary vibrant, authentic, owner driven with a South American chef team, prices reflect quality of produce and authenticity of recipes.

Absolutely unique, and made one feel happy for some reason. The ambiance was perfect, the menu was hilarious, and there were board games and books to take advantage of, The service was absolutely phenomenal. The guy behind the counter was friendly, helpful, funny, and made our eating experience better for his serving us. The food was fantastic! We had some tapas, a chicken and avocado salad (and when I asked to substitute steak for the chicken and pay for the difference, it was done), and a Matador burger, all with drinks and dessert. The drinks were delicious, refreshing, and well thought out, the salad was perfect (though admittedly a bit on the small side for the price), the tapas were wiped-clean in a matter of 30 minutes, and the Matador Burger, though nothing to write home about, was filling and yummy. We did pay extra for the sweet potato fries, and were a bit disappointed by the amount of fries that extra $1.25 will get you, but with drinks and dessert it ended up a blessing in disguise. The sticky toffee sundae was something I wish I could eat every day of my life, and the churros (accompanied by two dipping sauces) were surprisingly good! (Being a Californian I have pretty high expectations of Mexican foods, expectations that Britain has managed to almost thoroughly crush, so these were a pleasant surprise). We look forward to coming back for breakfast and board games!

As there isn't parking in the immediate vicinity, I strolled down They have tried to create a Mexican feel with sombreros hanging up everywhere Perhaps the best thing is their comprehensive menu of proper cocktails. During Happy Hour, the regular cocktails are all £3.50. My virgin pina colada was good and my friend was happy with her Singapore Gin Sling We shared a tostada to start - chorizo and prawns were served on a corn cracker with pinto beans. The toppings were nice though the guacamole didn't taste homemade. The waiter had failed to ask how I wanted my rib eye cooked and I waited until he was about to leave the table before telling him. Could do better there. The steak lacked the normal bone that rib eye has but was quite flavourful. The pepper sauce was quite glutinous. My friend's salmon was overcooked by a lot and the pairing with bearnaise sauce tasted a bit odd So a brave attempt to introduce a new genre of food to Epsom but only an average dining experience.

Having said that, I won't be returning to Los Amigos as I was fairly disappointed with the food. My husband and I visited for dinner and tried several dishes. To start, we ordered the tortilla dips and chips and the stuffed jalapeño peppers. The chips were slightly stale and the salsa was more like a sweet tomato sauce. The stuffed jalapeño peppers were good, but they could have been deep fried from a frozen product. For our mains, we had the chicken fajitas and the chicken nachos. The nachos had the same issues as the chips and salsa with the chicken tasting more Spanish than Tex-Mex. The fajitas were cooked okay, but must have had the same Spanish-rice type seasoning as the nachos... which really killed the flavour, in my opinion. I also tried the regular margarita, for which I had high hopes (thinking this could at least be a solid post-work drinks spot.) Sadly, the margarita was made with a mix and had only the one redeeming quality of a well-salted rim. I would have gladly paid another £1 or £2 for a margarita made from scratch- especially at a Tex Mex restaurant! All this said, I do not recommend this restaurant and suggest you go to Wimbledon for either Chiptole or Wahaca for your Tex-Mex cravings.
