Brought a group here because we came the year before and it was so good. Everyone in my group seemed happy this year as well. They really had a lot of people tending to us. And trying very hard. The only complaint I heard, was from me. I ordered steak fajitas. And didn't get tortillas. I asked 3 separate people for them and each one said coming right up. After I was finished with my meal is when anyone even addressed the issue. At that point I didn't ask again. But the waiter offered me a "free" shot of tequila. I'd have rather had my tortillas. The menu has so many things to choose from. The food is awesome. The staff is so accommodating and so friendly. Someone came to our table quite often to ask if everything was OK. Food has always been great. The hours recently changed which we didn't know. The servers sat and stared at us while we ate instead of letting us know their hours changed. We felt rushed and when we walked out the one guys says, " you don't like your service?" I explained that they close at 10 and we felt rushed. He said, no... the hours changed. I explained I didn't know. He said "thanks for the tip" and walked away. It was extremely rude and unnecessary. I can not believe I was treated with such disrespect. I kinda lucked out - didn't think I'd be able to get my margs and chips 'n' salsa fix while visiting this small, sweet town. But I did! This is one of three Mexican restos in town, and from what I hear, it's the best. Good drinks, really friendly service, and uber-colorful and festive decor, and a robust menu with all my Mexi favorites. It was hard to decide, but the cold made me crave something cheesy, melty and hearty (er, which is about any Tex-Mex dish), but opted for the Enchiladas Verdes with my choice of roasted chicken. That was some of the best shredded pollo I've ever had. It must've been marinated with all the rice spices and plenty of tomato and onion. Two thumbs up. Walked in and looked like your classic Mexican restaurant. I ordered the burrito monetary and a margarita both were great. The service was absolutely amazing, it was hands down the fastest order to food I've ever had. We put in our order and within 5 minutes our food (table of 3) was in front of us. So, why only 4 stars?? I'm a Mexican food snob and since I've had better and more authentic food. That being said, it's worth a visit if you're nearby. read more

Loved the El Tequila in Augusta so since they have closed tried the one in Auburn. NEVER AGAIN! The young waiter could not understand english which is no problem so he had someone help him. We were given the wrong order but accepted it anyway since we didn't want to keep waiting. Asked for guac on the side (charged 6.95 for tablespoon) then had to wait 20 minutes for the check, tried asking about price but got a no speak english. This place used to be good but it's awful now. The sauces (Enchilada etc.) are oily and watered down. The cheese in the enchiladas used to melt in your mouth and now it's just tough and tasteless. The ground beef is almost pureed beef and has an odd sweet taste. The wait staff used to be friendly and extremely attentive and now they are just wandering around. No one even came to see how the food was or get drinks refilled. We've tried this place twice this year and both times it was awful. Won't waste another penny. read more

We were in town for a gymnastics, and I was very excited by the YELP reviews I saw, so we came here. NOT A MISTAKE! I had a vegetarian burrito, it had mushrooms, which I love, but wasn't sure how I'd feel about them in a burrito.....They made it so much better! I also had a medium margarita, and it was super good. My kids shared the steak fajitas....Everyone said they were big enough for them both. And they were. We ordered a few extra tortillas for them, at no charge....and it was more than enough....( for a 9 and 11 year old!!!) We have another meet down that way next month, and we will for sure swing in for lunch!! read more

We found this place while visiting Antigo. Who knew you would have some of the best Mexican ever in Wisconsin? The margaritas are a must do. They have several different flavors and sizes to choose from. I got the traditional with salt and it was very good. The chips and salsa are also way above the norm. Like most Mexican restaurants, the portions were large. The difference at El Tequila is the quality that goes along with the amount. The three of us each had something different and all of the dishes were outstanding. We were all sharing with one another and saying "Oh, that is really good". The service was good and the food came out very quickly. Everything was cooked just right. If you are looking for a BIG meal, with good food and drink, this is your spot. read more

I have family in Antigo, and when I roll through town I like to stop in here for some cheap Mexican eats. The food is so-so, pretty okay for Wisconsin Mexican. I'll eat it, but it's not the best this about this place. I've had quesadillas, tacos and their rice/beans all of which have been underwhelming. During my most recent visit the special of the day was $2.75 blended margaritas. Yes please! The margs were strong and yummy! The service here is pretty quick. While growing up in good old Antigo, El Tequila was actually a Hardee's. It wasn't until after I had moved away for college that El Tequila actually opened. That being said, it was a nice surprise when visiting the family. El Tequila has decent Mexican food. it's definitely the best in town (in my opinion) and the price point just can't be beat. Tonight when I got my bill I was confused because I saw the price for my margarita but I didn't see where I got charged for my meal. Turns out the "margarita price" was actually the price of my meal! Plus, the portion sizes are large and the food comes almost ridiculously quickly. The service is also superb, very friendly. The overall decor of the place is...bright and festive to put it nicely. It definitely gives off a casual vibe and is not a place I would choose to go on a nice dinner or a "night out". But, for a quick, casual meal it fits the bill. I think this place is great for Antigo as a town and the food for the price is pretty great. I would say that if you travel to Wausau you can find better quality Mexican food, but that would involve travel. read more

This place exceeded my expectations, especially for the area. Fast, friendly service with reasonably priced food in a great location for passer-byes to stop in for a bite. I sampled the Huevos a la Mexicana: a decent sized portion of fried eggs, peppers, and onions with rice, beans, and corn tortillas. I must say, the hot sauce added great flavor to the eggs. Great cerveza and margarita prices, too - a daily happy hour from 2-5pm is pretty awesome. When I'm in town visiting family, I like to head here with the brosefs to have some good food and while not denting the old pocketbook too bad with an experience that isn't the same-old same-old in Antigo. read more

I have read the other reviews and agree with most everything - not the best Mexican food I have ever eaten, but certainly the best in the north woods, and worth four stars. A fun, friendly, very bright (over the top) decor, excellent lunch time margarita. What's not to love. This is my absolute favorite place to eat in Antigo. I just love how friendly the staff are and the food portions are very satisfying. I was very impressed with their margaritas.
