COVID is making no difference, that I can see, to the operation of this business. I made an order to go at the counter. They were friendly and quick to make and package our order. The Chile Verde was excellent, the Warm Queso dip is yummy, and their guacamole had huge pieces of avocado (just could've had more seasoning). It's never a great idea to order nachos to go, but I did anyway and they weren't bad, just would've been better served immediately, but that's my fault for getting loaded nachos to go! They were Nachos Supreme and had chicken, ground beef, and beans, plus more, on them. The one thing that wasn't good was the Chile Relleno on my Lunch #1. It tasted like it was fried a while ago in old oil. Also the guy who took my order and I had some misunderstanding when I asked for what my daughter wanted which was what we call cheese enchiladas (they call it burritos); meaning two flour tortillas filled with cheese and covered with enchilada sauce, with beans and rice on the side. I thought I explained that we'll enough. What she got was two flour tortillas filled with rice and beans covered with their queso cheese dip sauce. She said it was good, but it took us a minute to figure out what it was! We are from the Pacific Northwest and eat a lot of Mexican restaurant food. This place is a comparable to those. This is a bonafide local eatery. Sunday at 6:30 the place was packed. It is cheap and decent. I had beef tacos with a hard shell. Not much in them, but it was $5, so I didn't expect much. The guacamole in the side was bland, but it was the hot sauce that made it complete. The house salad was a bit of a mystery: it was compromised of onions, green peppers and cheese with ranch dressing in a packet. Mmmkay. I had a medium margarita that was the size of my head- I suspect is had very little booze in it, which was actually fine with me, as it was pretty good anyway. I'm actually really surprised at this place! Everything on the menu was ridiculously inexpensive compared to every other Mexican restaurant anywhere. Even the drinks were low cost. The service was friendly and we got our food pretty fast. Two drinks, two full meals, and a dessert came to under $40. I never even get dessert.... EVER. But I did this time cause it was so cheap lol. Seriously, 2.99 for 4 sopapilla? Sold. The only thing that was weird was the flooring. It's clearly new-ish but doesn't match anything else in the restaurant so it kind of throws everything off. I'm not there to eat the floor though, so, it didn't really matter. This is the first time I've been to this restaurant since it was converted from the old bowling ally, it will not be the last time I visit. I wanted to try something different so I ordered the Piña Loca (Marinated Beef & Chicken, Bell Peppers, Onions, Tomatoes, and Grilled Pineapple served with a side of rice, Orange Slices and Tortillas) this dish was very good and only cost $9.99. Went here twice and can't give them higher than a 3 Star. First time we came the service was absolutely horrible. We were seated quite timely but watched as others who arrived after us had their orders taken, drinks, chips and salsa given. Second time was a much better experience. Our male server was on top of it. As for the food, it was average. Nothing was spicy at all! Which is a bad thing! Salsa literally could have drank it like a Bloody Mary! read more

After a few recommendations from the locals about where to eat the first on all there lists was El Tapatio the newest restaurant in town. I was not disappointed, after working in the Dallas east Texas area for the last 6 months I have had my fill of "Mexican" food but a good Margarita is always worth the trip so onward. The usual decor , music and chips and salsa arrived at the table by a very courteous staff, the customers seated around me were all enjoying the food and fellowship, along with the noticeable Margarita which I was anxiously waiting. Upon arrival the house Margarita on the rocks garnished with a orange was excellent so I had 3 " quality controle" a generous burrito with sour cream sauce, rice and beans made for a great dinner. For a small town, this is by far the best Mexican Restaurant I've been and definitely exceeded my expectations. You know you're skeptical of trying something new when you're so used to the local eatery from where you live but this restaurant was great! Food was amazing! We ordered the steak/Chicken Fajitas for 1 although we we were sharing, and the amount of food was beyond what we expected and the quality was great! I ordered a LARGE Strawberry Margarita and our server made sure I knew how big the drink was so I changed it to a small and it was by far the best Margarita I've had in a while at a restaurant. The amount of tequila and strawberry mix was just right and it sure did give me a buzz! I wish I remembered our server's name as he was so nice, friendly and freakin' hilarious! The host and the other servers were all nice to us too and I hope they all get a raise after this post! Definitely give you 10 stars and I highly recommend it!! I asked two people where to eat and both recommended here. It did not disappoint. I had the Pollo Lopez. The chicken breast was juicy, tender and very tasty. It was thin (pounded) with yummy seasonings. It was topped with grilled green peppers, bacon and the most amazing cheese sauce. I did not eat the bacon because it was flabby, but it added good flavor. Rice was typical, but the beans were outstanding. Neither the salsa nor the entrée were spicy. I asked for hot sauce to add heat and was brought some in a small bowl. The service was odd. It seemed like I did not have an assigned waitperson. Chips, salsa and beer came quickly, but it was a long time before anyone took my order. It came quickly, but it was a long time after the food came before anybody checked on me. Then somebody else came by to check 30 seconds later. I finished my beer and was not offered another one. A woman took my plate but my check didn't come. I eventually went to the register. Recommended by locals and one of the few choices in town. Kind of a mixed bag but the actual food was quite good. Salsa was pretty bland but fresh. Not much of a hint of any cilantro or onion and certainly not heat. Tortilla chips were standard fare. On the other hand the tamale and beef enchilada was quite good and were covered with one of the better enchilada red sauces I've had for a while. Beans and rice were average. Beer was nice and cold and had a nice variety of bottled beer including some Mexican brews. Service very casual and slightly below average. That said the place does a booming business. read more

What a nice addition to dining in Winner. I'm sort of a Mexican food "snob" as I've had delicious food at many other establishments. I've been here three times and each time I have been very pleased with the experience. The owners have done wonderful things to update the inside including new flooring and tasteful decor. Its very inviting when you walk in. We are always seating quickly and orders and food also come quick as well, no matter how busy the place is. One of my tests for Mexican establishments as how good the chips are and I always order the Tacos De Carne Asada to compare to other restaurants. I have been very please with how it is made and can tell the Maiz Tortillas are homemade. My family orders a variety and are also please each time. Not only does the food taste good, but the prices are amazing compared with other places. I thought the bill was wrong the first time we came because of how low it was. I know the food is good as I have been here once before. Tonight must be a really off night because we waited 2 hours to receive food. I had to ask repeatedly for water and refills on chips from the bus person because our waitress never even came over to our section after seating us. We watched another waiter take orders from every other table in our section but completely ignored us. 3 tables that were seated after us had their orders taken and received food before us. Just as we were putting on our coats to walk out, our food arrived. No apology. I actually don't think out waitress spoke English. read more

I have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants and sort of know what to expect. I ordered the cheese dip and it was so watered down it was like dipping my chip in a bowl of milk, it wasn't hot either. I was told by someone in town you have to ask for "the good cheese" I feel everyone should get the good cheese. I had chicken taquitos and they were okay. The chicken doesn't have any seasoning on it, just shredded breast meat, the meat was good quality but flavorless. The dish was supposed to be served with rice and beans, but I did not receive them. I would have asked my server for them, if he had come back. The server takes your order, then a different person brought the food, which is not a problem, but I expected someone to come and ask if everything was okay and fill our drinks. No one came to our table after we received our food, I would have like to order desert, but nobody came back and there really wasn't many servers "floating" around the floor in order to flag one down. They do not bring you a ticket to pay for you meal, you have to go to the front desk and tell them were you were sitting, the hostess then filed through a huge stack of tickets to find ours, she then had to consult the menu to find the prices of everything and add it up. Paying for our meal took approximately 10 minutes and there was three or four people standing behind us waiting to pay. We had about a 45 minute wait for our food, which wasn't unexpected because they were fairly busy, but don't eat here if you are in a hurry. The décor is nice, they have done a lot of work to the building compared to what it used to be. This restaurant has been open about a month and seem to be busy, but unless they improve their customer service I don't think it will last. I will probably eat here again if I am with someone who wants to eat here, but it definitely would not be my first choice. read more
