I come here often. I ordered the shrimp fajitas and I literally got 7 shrimp. I could only make 2tacos out of it. Very underwhelming and overcooked shrimp! This is a picture of my 6 shrimp tails, my one shrimp and the rest of my onions and peppers! read more

I eat here pretty often, and they continue to surprise me with delicious dishes when I need it most. My wife got sick with a bad cold, so we got their Tortilla Soup. It's incredible. Full of flavor and chunks of chicken, cheese, and avocado! We also really love their cheese enchiladas or Enchilada Suiza on a normal day, too! also, their pricing is pretty decent for a restaurant in this economy read more

Yikes. It's usually pretty good & better than most Mexican food places around but tonight's order was bland, like hospital- retirement home bland.. like tonight's cook was new or idk what happened & just opened some cans & packages, added water to the beans, no seasoning & let it fly. I really didn't want to cook but I should've & easily could've done that & better for way less. At least add some salt but preferably onion, cumin, chili powder, garlic, paprika, seeded jalapeño- just anything. Tonight was about on par with most Oregon Mexican food instead of being better . Will try again- we usually like the place. Change it back to what you used to do! That was good. read more

El Tapatio Restaurant - Today I tried a new dish (to me), Camarones Monterey, shrimp wrapped in bacon. They had me at bacon, but with the shrimp, magnifíco! - Mexican Near Me - Oak Grove, Oregon

Small, busy, restaurant Friendly service Great food Easy parking We stopped in on a Friday evening for dinner. As expected, it was a busy time and tables were full. We were offered to wait a little while for a table to open or to take a seat in the bar. We opted for the bar seating and took the last available table in there. Despite being busy the staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered drinks and our meals when chips and salsa came to the table. The salsa is very good! We tried the chicken fajitas, chili Colorado and a bowl of tortilla soup. Everything was served hot and steaming. The tortillas seemed to be fresh and soft (flour). All the meats were nicely cooked and flavorful. It was a great meal! The restaurant appears clean and nice. The prices are very reasonable. We'll be back soon to try other dishes. read more

Worst "chorizo" ever! it wasn't even chorizo at all it was just low quality ground pork! It didn't have any of the spices, it was just brown chunks. I just wanted a breakfast burrito which apparently they don't have and served me some weird burrito filled with ground pork and slathered in sauce. I wish they just said we don't have chorizo I would have ordered something else! The salsa was completely bland, no heat whatsoever. Chips were super thick and stale. I ate the beans and rice which were actually quite good but the burrito is the only thing I ordered and it was inedible. read more

This place has great food, simply put. Granted, I order the same thing 99% of the time. But it's so yummy!

Service was so quick. Got seated right away and two baskets of chips and salsa before our entrees came. Entrees were really good size portion and really tasty. I had the asada burrito and the steak was very well cooked, not chewy at all. And my husband got the #9 and he really enjoyed it as well. Very cute tile decorations everywhere. Highly recommend read more

El Tapatio and J&R are my 2 favorite Mexican places near Milwaukie, great flavors. El Tapatio is very accommodating for my somewhat annoying orders (allergy substitutions), and the quality is very consistent between their different chefs. read more

Me and my bestie Oscar came here after he did my hair. Oscar is Mexican so if he tells me that a Mexican restaurant is legit, I trust him. When we went in it was packed so they are doing something right. The thing is, I remember coming to this place before with Oscar and had the chicken enchiladas with the mole sauce and remember thinking to myself, this is just ok. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. This place is located on the main drag off 99E in Milwaukie, well, actually the address is technically in Portland but it's way out there where there are no good restaurants. My ceviche was the perfect portion size for lunch. There were plenty of shrimp, a whole avocado, but it was salty as hell. Even my margarita with salt wasn't that salty. It was edible, but just barely. The margarita was great. I'm sure I'll be back again because Oscar likes it. Maybe I'll try the tacos. I think it would be pretty hard to fuck up tacos. 2020 - Review # 15 read more

I am still sick after eating here yesterday. Food poisoning symptoms. Never, ever again.

I'm giving four stars- really solid B + for food, atmosphere and service. Typical American Mexican food served in a nice setting. We shared the mixed fajitas- chicken, shrimp and steak. Plenty for two of us without doing the "for two" option which gets you another plate of rice, beans, sour cream and guacamole. My son had the El Tap burrito which is a loaded burrito with the works and his girlfriend had the street tacos which looked yummy. Recommend! read more

We arrived and waited a couple minutes for the server to seat us. When she came in she said "Sit anywhere you like". If that was the case why did they have the Wait to be seated sign up? It was a few more minutes for water and chips. The salsa bowl is about a half a cup. We had to ask for more. They brought one more. We ordered the enchilada de Mole and shrimp fajitas. I will say the chicken enchiladas were delicious. That sweet sauce with very little spice was cooked to my taste. Their refried beans were just right The shrimp fajitas were seasoned but you only get six tail-on shrimp and a large plate full of peppers and onions. The prices at equal to those around the area $10-15 or so a plate depending on a single item or platter. I will come again. read more

I typically come here and order the chicken fajita salad. Big, lots of flavor. Today I decided to try their mole chicken. Big disappointment. The mole sauce is important in this dish. They need to go back and use a new recipe. It's sweet, runny, gross. Then, the put fajita chicken strips rather than shredded or breast. Really disappointed because I like good mole. Kids food and drinks were great. Please make your own good mole or take it off the menu. It's insulting to sell this sauce. read more

El Tapatio Restaurant - Gross brown sweet mole. No spices or complexities. Please get a new mole recipe or at least something not from the can - Mexican Near Me - Oak Grove, Oregon

This was not a good Mexican restaurant. I had fish tacos. What that comprised was a frozen fish-stick on two tortillas. That's it. Oh... and a dry wedge of lime. No sauce. No sour cream. No fixings at all. I did order the optional pico de gallo to go on it, and it was flavorless and wilted. The whole thing was dry and bland. I had to steal the bowl of salsa that came with the chips that we got when we sat down to make it edible. The salad I also had was like any other bagged salad from sysco. read more

This place is incredible! The staff is beyond accommodating, kind, helpful, and overall a very loving family restaurant. My Father unexpectedly passed away in October of 2024. He loved this restaurant and often went. Many of his co workers also frequented it. My sister and I decided to have a casual family gathering in December of 2024 to see some of our dad's side of the family. The staff was able to accommodate us all and many kids perfectly. The food and drinks are delicious and prices are great too. They let us bring flowers, candles and a large picture of my dad. I'm so grateful to them for hosting us and allowing us to remember our dad in a restaurant he loved! That felt special and was important to my family. I can't remember the names of the 2 servers who helped us, I want to say Ivan and I can't remember the other ones name but all the staff was wonderful. I highly recommend. 10/10 Ivan and Gabriel were our servers and went above and beyond to accommodate my family. All the servers and staff were amazing and helpful but these two were truly wonderful. I will never forget them. read more

Awesome food. Great people. Everything we've had here was excellent: Chicken Enchilada, Carne Asada plate, Quesadilla, Burritos. We are addicted to this place. Have to eat here at least once a month. (The hot salsa is not only very hot, it is very tasty. Fajitas had a ton of meat - had to take half of it home and made burritos with it the next day.) read more

Great food, great sevice, both online order pick-up and in the restaurant. The super burritos are huge and delicious, we also can recommend the Nachos Tapatio and the Taco salads. The restaurant has plenty of tables and lots of space and the staff there was friendly and attentive. read more

This place use to be so great! I realize they're very short staffed, however the service was less than mediocre. The food is just ok. Two of my us ordered burritos, which were huge, and two of us ordered tacos and enchiladas. The food back in the day use to be so flavorful but it's lacking. The portions are huge but who cares if it's not that great? They do serve you chips and two salsas. One mild, one hot. Both just ok. As for the service, it took forever to get drinks and forget about a refill. Took forever to get napkins or more salsa. Over all just an underwhelming experience. read more

This will sound odd, however, I think the quality of food has improved since the pandemic started. I enjoy that they provide two heat levels of free chips and salsa. My favorite is the super spicy one. The food is very consistent. read more

Been coming here for years and will always be one of my favorite restaurants! Amazing service and great food always.

Oh so bland. Unbelievable. I have very little tolerance for spice and I was downing their "spicy" salsa like it was practically water. So that said if you need a super bland version of Mexican food, go here! I had the fajitas which were also very heavy (more than most places) with onion and bell pepper, very little meat. The staff were very nice though. read more

I love this place! They use fresh ingredients and traditional menus. The margaritas are awesome!

How the hell can you screw up chicken...they sure did! My dish tasted like freezer burn

I don't hate this restaurant, I really want to like it because it's locally owned, it's just so mediocre. The service felt rushed and I felt as if I wasn't wanted there. As a former chef, it's hard for me to eat this food that has clearly been prepared with little line. The refried beans are definitely from a can and all the food just seems "wet" and not fresh. It's as of everything is prepared beforehand and just reheated. I can almost guarantee most of it is reheated in the microwave or held hot for hours on a steam table. The interior needs a bit of a a facelift, but I really don't mind the ambiance, I always focus on food and service. Unfortunately, El Tapatio doesn't really deliver a good version of either. read more

Ordered from Grubhub only to get yet another hot garbage platter of food that, I hate to even say this, worse than Taco Bell. If this is what people up here think is Mexican food than you're sorely mistaken. Unseasoned food. Minced meat for beef isn't Mexican, it's white washed. Nachos made like some college student baked them in the oven, walking into a 711 you could make better nachos. Nachos in layers fyi. I can't even describe the horror. And whatever those fajita acting like a quesadilla were so gross. The taste of butter isn't Mexican. No seasoning. It's just an abomination. Don't ever suggest that this is even close to Mexican food. read more

Pretty good, decent typical "Mexican food". There's really no hint of authentic flavors here..from the overly sweet mole to the cheddar cheese in the quesadillas, BUT you won't be disappointed if you're in it for what you expect. This place gets very busy, but the vibe is great & everyone is friendly. Drinks are delicious & they keep your table well stocked with chips & salsa the entire time. Prices are very reasonable considering up the hill in Oregon City a single cheese quesadilla is $17 on their menu, vs $10 here. Who knew inflation could hit cheese & tortillas so hard, but here we are. read more

Very dissatisfied! Every time I order here my food is wrong ! It's very simple and I am very clear with the order taker and again my order is wrong . I only asked for three items on my burrito and I get home and have sauce and tomatoes & lettuce, cheese , sour cream. ( I asked for beans, sirloin & cheese.) We call & can't get anyone for 15 minutes on the phone and now it's another half hour wait to replace it. I do understand that they are busy but this happens 4/5 times that we eat here, only reason we come back is the food is good when you receive what you ordered. read more

Friendly service, good food. Problem is, they are terrible with allergies/intolerances. I get sick every time after even when I request no dairy (butter or cheese or sour cream) or gluten & they always forget & serve me with dairy over everything anyway bc they don't understand. Maybe they can't or didn't clean the grill enough or something too. Either way -- stay away if you have allergies or intolerances. It would be great if they brushed up on food allergen containment all a bit more. I get it's authentic food, which I appreciate, but it doesn't mean I need to get sick after each time I try it. (Which is maybe once a year with my family who loves the place & never has problems with it bc they can eat anything.) read more
