If that's not good, I probably won't look further into the menu. I'm being kind in giving 2 stars here, because the salsa is completely inedible. It's obvious they make it themselves, but along with onion, cilantro and a few tomatoes (no discernible heat from any type of pepper) use tomato sauce - the amount of sugar in the sauce makes it too sweet to be remotely appealing. Chips were fairly tasty and not greasy - but what are you going to eat with them? A jar of Pace picante would have been an improvement. The lunch plate #4 ($5.50) was a taco (your choice ground or shredded beef) and an enchilada (cheese, beef, or chicken with red sauce, green tomatillo sauce, or white queso) served with beans and rice. I stuck to the standards - ground beef taco and cheese enchilada with red sauce. The ground beef taco was fine - not as bland as some versions around here, but it needed some good salsa to liven it up. And I wasn't about to put that sweet stuff on it, so...boring. The enchilada was exactly what I've come to expect - the sauce wasn't straight from a can, but didn't have that zing from New Mexico chiles or chile powder either. Meh. I will gives props to a nice room, a nice hot plate with completely melted cheese, and menu with some nice sounding selections - shrimp, ceviche, etc. But I can't get past not having any salsa to eat it with. These are steps rarely taken. 2) This place is clean. Look, we've all been to the local tex-mex shop and pondered whether or not we may have stumbled into an auto garage by mistake. Los Cantaritos leaves you without concern. 3)Lunch $5.50. Free Chips and Salsa. Quality food. Friendly staff. Local management. Did I mention all this for $5.50? Stop your complaining.
