First time coming to el Sarape and the food was delicious! Service was attentive enough and she kept our drinks full without us asking which is always something I keep my eyes open for when rating service. Ambiance was interesting as they brought the outside to the inside with huts and an outdoorsy feel.

Luke warm tasteless tortilla soup served with a baby spoon.

I ordered a bowl of tortilla soup for lunch. It was luke warm and tasteless. They served the bowl of soup with the tiniest spoon. It was literally baby size. I had to ask the waitress to heat up my soup and bring me an adult sized spoon. She brought a teaspoon and a tablespoon, which was fine. All 3 of us at our table ordered the same thing and we all received these tiny spoons. It was probably the worst tortilla soup I've ever tried. I didn't even eat 1/4 of it. Also, this place is overpriced and has no a la cart. If you want one taco. You can't get that. You have to order the whole $16 plate of 3 tacos rice beans. Yuck.

Fast and friendly service paired with great food. This was my first time at El Sarape and my waitress was super nice. I ordered and ate in about 30 minutes. There was no rush to leave but if you are on a time crunch I think this would be a great option. The steak had a nice flavor and will definitely be back.

The food was good. Nothing super about it. Just good. I would return but in all honesty the food is just good. I guess when I eat Mexican there is usually way more flavor. There wasn't, it was ... just good. The restaurant is clean and the servers were attentive.

Good stuff here. Service very good. $5 margaritas the night I was there worth the visit. I had a real good carne asade, chips and salsa good also. Will go back.

Best Mexican Food In Kenosha! Without a doubt. My family and I moved from Los Angeles to Kenosha so our Mexican Food criteria is pretty spoiled and this is the only place in Kenosha so far that holds up to that socal Mexican food quality. After eating at the dissapointing and wildly over rated La Fogata and leaving with the most "meh" feeling I've had in a restaurant in Kenosha so far this place was a blast. Excellent margaritas. Their steak is sensational. The vibe is awesome. Nice and big with lots of seating. Highly recommens

Food is always very good! We have been going here for years and always very happy with food and service! Our go to Mexican date night!

Went to El Sarape for the first time today. It was pretty good! Loved the beans and the beef enchiladas.

Really good best on Kenosha. Great servers. Alcohol fairly priced. My favorite restaurant in the Kenosha area.

Don't walk run to El Sarape. The best Mexican in Kenosha. The pork tacos are the best I've ever had. 11/10.

It was a busy sunny, Monday afternoon. We found out they offer a great $5 Martini Monday deal. We ordered and I expected a harsh, cheap tasting cocktail that would instantly give me a headache. I was wrong! Heather the bartender was fantastic! She was so sweet and funny. There were 3 of us and she saw we were looking at 2 Kenosha magazines so she brought another so we could all have one. Sharp move. The bottom line is Heather created tasty martinis, was super fun and Martini Monday is a great value!

Ugh, where do I begin?…read more One lovely Sunday, my wife and I decided to go for a drive. We once were driving though Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, and found an area of homes along the lake and wanted to go see them again. So we found ourselves going to Kenosha and then we would make our way down. My wife suggested going to Anna's on the Lake, but they were closing at 2pm. Seeing as we wouldn't get there until about 1:45pm, we skipped it and began to figure out, again, where we might partake in a late lunch. She said that a bunch of people had recommended Boat House on Facebook and so we, too, decided to try them out. We arrived and they had a parking lot behind them between the restaurant and the lock feeding into the river. The outdoor deck looked like a great place to go when it was warmer outside, but that day wasn't warm enough for outdoor seating. So we ventured inside. The hostess asked about table selections and we wanted a standard table, not a counter height table, so she brought us into the main dining area and sat us in a booth. There was an open booth that looked at the water but we were told that no one sits there. Weird, but okay. The booth we were in was fine, except the people behind us were loud and obnoxious, constantly bumping the seat which made it feel like I was on a roller coaster, so we asked to move to a different table and they moved us one booth back. Thus the waiting game for a a server started all over again. While we waited, another couple was seated in our old booth and were immediately attended to. We flagged down a busser and asked to see a server as we had now been collectively waiting for nearly 20 minutes. I guess this red flag told us to vacate, but we were morons and stayed anyway. Our server arrived and apologized as she wasn't told that she had the new table. The hostess moved us, but then didn't say anything? What the heck?! We give her our drink orders and are about to give her our food order and she disappears to grab the drinks. Um, we've been waiting for 35 minutes at this point, I think we know what we're going to order. She returns 10 minutes later with our drinks (me a soda and her a water with lemon). I ask which food order is better: the chicken bacon ranch wrap or the Ranger burger. She says the burger. Okay. I order the burger and she asks if I want it pink or not pink. What? I order it pink. It's an 8oz steakburger with bacon, bbq sauce, fried onion straws, and cheddar cheese. Red flag number two: if someone asks if you want your meat pink or not, that means it's a frozen patty and the cook knows to cook it for x amount of minutes to get it pink inside versus well done. My wife ordered the nachos with chicken tinga and asked if the chicken was shredded, which she said it was. It. was. not. It was chunks of chicken. This is a big deal to my wife as she finds thicker pieces of chicken to be "too chickeny" and then she doesn't eat it. And this was the case here. My burger had so much going on that you couldn't really taste the burger. The bacon was cooked, but not to a crisp, they were limp bacon and somehow with not much flavor. The bbq sauce overwhelmed everything. That means the cheese, too, and that is often hard to do with cheddar. Meanwhile, across the table, I got to watch my wife grimace (yep, grimace) while she ate the nachos. They were very wet and the nachos a bit soggy - not how one wants their nachos. I think the worst part of it all is that there is an entryway to the restaurant mere steps from our booth. And everyone who entered took their sweet time walking through (and closing) the doors, so we got a cold breeze blown on us every time someone walked in or out this way. HOWEVER...they had to walk to the hostess stand in the back. Which begs the question, why was this entryway open and not have a sign stating that the bar entrance is open and to walk to that entryway instead? Our server finally made an appearance as we were finishing out meals and I asked for the check and immediately gave her my credit card as I was never going to see here again (or at least for a while). The bathrooms are next to the merch store (not sure I understand the need for a merch store, but there you have it. I will say this, if you are on Facebook, and are talking up this place, you need to stop. This was not good. From the beginning when the hostess forgot to mention to the server that she had another booth, to the poor recommendation for the burger being "good", to the soggy nachos, to the entryway without a hostess; everything was not good. I don't recommend this place to anyone. There are so many other good places in Kenosha that this place is worth skipping.

We were looking forward to trying this restaurant but it was a huge disappointment…read more The hostess tried to seat us closest to the front entrance but we asked to move a little further in... there were plenty of open tables. Someone brought us water and then we waited for about 10 minutes. The server came over and was apologetic and polite. He did a great job of explaining the specials. We had already decided what we wanted. We ordered a ceasar salad and asked the server if we could have 5-6 anchovies. The salad arrived with triple that amount!!! Ok so we took most of the anchovies off and put it on our bread plate. The dressing on the salad was not a traditional creamy ceasar dressing but a clear dressing with no flavor. The bread offered was lack lustre considering there are so many great bakeries in the area. The spaghetti with meatballs arrived and one taste of the meatballs, you could tell they were not homemade. The dish itself was steaming but the pasta was cold which means they probably heated the sauce and added cold pasta. The sauce had no flavor. Bland as can be. The server did offer black pepper and parmesan cheese. I rarely if ever send back food but by now I was really put off. I asked the server to have the food heated. It came back quickly slightly better in temp. The restaurant itself was clean and pleasant atmosphere and the server was very nice, but the food was an epic failure. Maybe time for a new chef?

We ordered several appetizers, and they were all pretty mid. The buffalo shrimp was not cooked all the way through. The batter was still wet. The trio was not served hot. The only positives were that my nephew enjoyed his burger, and my brother and sister enjoyed their drinks. Other than that, the entire visit was disappointing and a waste of money. Between finding a hair in the food, undercooked appetizers, overcooked steaks, and the restaurant being out of the one item I came for, I do not see myself coming back.
