Located in a strip shopping center with mostly Latino businesses on a side street right off the main road. Private shared parking lot. The place looks small from outside but it is fairly big with sufficient seating. Workers are very friendly. It's all traditional Colombian food and drinks and also fresh made breads and pastries. You order at the counter and pay at that time. Only downside is that you are asked too tip at that moment but you really don't know what the service or food will be like yet. We ordered the "Bandeja Paisa", a traditional dish with an arepa, rice, beans, avocado, white rice, sausage, steak & strip of fried pork. It is a very fulfilling plate. I got the breaded pork chop, a large chip pounded very thin and coated in a very flavorful breading. It comes with salad, white rice, beans, soft plantains and some fresh cut limes for the chop. We got 3 beef empanadas . We ate them about two hours later in the hotel & man were they delicious. Filled with meat and potatoes with a crunchy yet soft outer layer that is like a flavorful tortilla . We loved everything about the food. Place is laid back with TVs everywhere & traditional music playing at just the right volume. If you have never had Colombian food you need to check this out. It's about 15 minutes from downtown Memphis not that far off the highway.

They do not make fresh tea.

This place is special and so was my lunch. This food is different and it's delicious. The building is old, but it's very clean everywhere I could see. I found it awkward that they were stacking plates on the same counter where the line forms to order. It isn't full service, but a server brings plates to your table. The cooks set the plates of food on the counter right in front of the people in line so that the server would have to break the line to get the plates for delivery. I don't want my plate of food right under someone's nose who is just getting there, starving, and about to order! On the plus side, since I had no idea what I was going to order, and since I was first in line, I pointed at one of them and said "I'll have that!" I had no idea what it was, but I saw steak, egg, sausage, rice, red beans, some kind of pancake thing, and some kind of interesting things I had no idea what they were. They told me the name of the dish, but language barriers prevented me from understanding what they said. Judging from the menu descriptions and the price I was charged, I'm going with Bandeja Paisa. I unknowingly ordered the most expensive thing on the menu, but damn it looked good! And it was a good price for what I got. And aside from them bringing the plates across the room, it was self service, so I didn't leave a tip. I didn't get the feeling it was a tipping place. Anyway, the steaks were cheap, thin, breakfast type steaks, but they knew how to make them tender and flavorful. The red beans had loads of flavor, but I've recently found a place whose beans I like better. Fried sweet plantains were great. The sausage link was great! It was a different flavor than I'm used to and I'm sure it's prepared fresh, if not here, then by a local butcher. The fried egg was just another egg. I loved the white rice. It was sticky like sushi rice and slightly sweet. It's the best white rice I think I've had. The pancake thing I saw was an arepa. It's a sort of cornbread I think. Those things I had no idea what they were turned out to be some kind of pork belly I guess. It's probably near the bacon. It was all fat and I personally didn't care for it. I asked for tea, but was given a cup. I discovered that they don't make their own tea, but instead have pre packaged tea in a box for a fountain drink machine. I hate this tea and got Coke instead. If I'd had half a brain, I'd have gotten columbian coffee! I was really impressed, but not thoroughly. I'll give this a second try before judging it worthy of 5 stars.

I've been looking for Latin restaurants since we've moved to the Collierville area a few months ago. Being Colombian I was very excited to hear about this place. So this afternoon we decided to stop in for lunch and try it out. The staff's Colombian and they were very friendly! We ordered empanadas, jugo de mora en agua (blackberry juice in water), and a carne asada plate each. The empanadas texture was a little different regardless they were crispy and had a great flavor. The juice was perfect to me since I prefer tangy to sweet. I had the carne asada plate. The frijoles (beans) were salty. The rice, salad, and sweet plantains were good. However, the meat was not good. I may give this spot another shot but try something else on the menu... maybe a bandeja paisa but instead of carne asada, I'll order carne molida (ground beef). I would like to give 3 1/2 stars but it doesn't allow me to.

1St. The AC is working good. 2nd place is clean and also the bathroom... Although from outside isn't looks like the place that u expect it inside. The food is amazing...(the only downsize is they don't hv the spicy sauce) It's so authentic tho... when here w/ my Columbia friend and he approved it!

El Sabor Latino, totally a truly underrated gem of Memphis. Tucked away just off of Summer Ave in a little strip mall. A place I myself am guilty of passing by all to many times. I was not sure what to expect, even until driving up I was not to sure what kind of experience this would be. All of that changed the moment that we walked in the door. We where instantly greeted not only the staff working behind the counter, but by the smell as well. The smell of seasoned meats being cooked, the smell of rice, the smells of all things good and holy in the world. The dining room was so bright, and happy looking, and incredibly clean. The entire staff was friendly, and they all seamed to be really happy. Understandably so, I do not know how one could not be happy working in a place like this. What initially lead us here today was the hunt for Sweet Plantains, and we found out they had them, so off we went. And of course we had to get a nice spread to go with them, Carne Asada, Pollo quarter chicken. Each of them came with a ample portion of rice, small salad, and a bowl of beans, and of course the Plantains. We had to ordered one Empanada just to give it a try. After we ordered and told the pleasant man behind the counter that we came for the Plantain he told us about his Aborrajados ( some kind of fried Plantain, wrapped in a dough and filled with cheese). Now we need to go back again for this! Both of our entires where really good, I do not know what they do to the rice, but we both approved of it. The Carne Asada was the perfect thickness, and the chicken was done just to the edge of being dry. Exactly how it all should be. Of course the Plantains did not disappoint either one of us one bit. The restaurant had a good amount of people in it, especially for 1:00PM on a Sunday, and by the time we left there where even more people, including a large family out for late Sunday lunch, always a good sign for a locally owned, totally unassuming restaurant like El Sabor Latino.

My bf enjoyed his chicken sandwich and gave it a 8.5/10. Next time will try the pulled pork one. The Dama is super delicious. It's like a lighter version of beef stew in my opinion. The fresh cilantro has a refreshing taste to the dish - 10/10. The Esquites was oddly enjoyable. The tajin made it a little tart but it's basically just as the cream corn I grew up eating - 8/10.
