Came here for a birthday dinner. I thought the restaurant itself was very fun and festive with the decor and artwork. For a big of a party we had, I found they were quite accommodating and seemed to be able to get everyone's correct order seamlessly. I ordered a taco salad and thought for the size, the price was quite reasonable. I thought it was pretty good and filling. I don't think I would order it in the future since it's a simple dish that is not unique to the establishment. My husband ordered the pupusas and wasn't very impressed but stated it was edible. It seemed most people at the party enjoyed their food with a few misses on some appetizers like the crab dip. One of the regulars stated some of their dishes weren't their usual quality but said they believe it was an off day. The two servers we had were very nice and didn't miss a beat with such a large party. Overall, I would return if I was in the area and wasn't planning to eat some where else. We made a return visit with a small group and as you enter, everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The entire restaurant was filled with hand painted art as well as other decorations. You get a complimentary basket of chips and salsa. Our server Rosa was knowledgeable and attentive. We ordered 7 items: 1) Queso with chorizo 2) Rodeo sampler 3) Grilled chicken tacos 4) Birria tacos 5) Fajitas trio 6) Green enchiladas 7) Upside down cake. Everything that we order was delicious and on point. If you prefer spicy, just ask and they can accommodate to your palate. On the weekends they have live entertainment and teaches salsa for beginners but anyone can join. It's definitely a place to be. read more

We always had great meals here when we ate in, but I won't order take out anymore! The portions were significantly smaller, the carne asada had no spices, and the menu said it came with 2 sides, but they told I could only have 1 side. The chicken chimis were very small ( maybe 4 inches long). The eat in size was bigger. I ordered them fried but they were not. And the take out horchatas were only the size of a medium coffee with lots of ice. They don't give you any chips and salsa like ALL the other Mexican restaurants do with carry out! From now on I will only eat in and NEVER again order take out from here. read more

I have been to this establishment several occasions and tried several items on their menu. The shrimp ceviche continued to be one of my favorite items. My wife and I have had dinner at both locations a few times and the Restaurant by the Fredericksburg Fairgrounds have always been a worthwhile experiance all the way around but the newer location on Salem Station Rd off Harrison has been a horrible experience both times we ate there , the service was not as BAD as the food as we were expecting the same experience as we had at the original location but the food arrived cold ,Bland and forgetful and I'm pretty sure my wife & I got sick from the food on the 2nd visit because the veggies were wilted and the pork tasted funny so we have not been back but continue to frequent the Original location by the Fairgrounds and continue to enjoy the staff and the food! read more

I usually don't have any issues here as I typically only come for cheese dip or chicken dip. It's close to my job so I'm able to get in and out quickly, which is an added benefit. Today; however, was a very subpar visit. I drove over and placed my order at the restaurant. Genesis is always very nice and service was very quick. It wasn't until I got back to work that I realized I was given maybe 15 chips. Usually the bag is full but today it wasn't even half full. I also found a long piece of plastic wrap in my cheese dip. I understand that every restaurant will have bad days, but I feel like this was the most simple of orders and it wasn't right all around. There was also no flavor in the cheese, like someone just took a block of provolone and milk and melted it down. It was pretty disappointing as I usually only come here when I'm craving chips and cheese but El Rodeo just did not deliver today. read more

This is the place to eat if you want hand to hand combat for mediocre food with flies and gnats the entire meal. Seriously though from the time we sat down and the chips and salsa hit the table it was just bug after bug after bug landing on the glasses, chips, bowls, tabletop, window sill and it didn't end even after the table was cleared off. I even saw a fly inside the napkin box through the clear cover on it. The meal was underwhelming to say the least. I ordered the Fajita Trio and it arrived with 6 small shrimp and a beaten to death piece of chicken and a steamrolled piece of steak that they referred to as New York strip, I don't think they know what New York Strip is or how to prepare it. The chicken was absolutely dry and the steak was even drier and so well done to the point that the butter knife they give you will barely cut through it and you better cut it in small pieces because biting in to was like biting in to a leather belt. All of this while battling flies and gnats. There was a surprise show though that wasn't advertised as a couple got in to an argument at the bar and cursed at each other about lies and what not, they left quickly though so they must have been cut off. Anyway, I have attached the only thing that didn't suck or cause any problems in the picture below. Side note, figured out where all the flies and gnats were coming from, as we walked to the car and past the kitchen I noticed the windows open and they were missing screens. So the bugs are coming from the kitchen and in to the dining area, this on a day the Fredericksburg Agricultural Fair is kicking off with livestock next door and the trash right around the corner from the windows. Last night, my husband and I went to El Rodeo for "Taco Tuesday". It's basically a religion in our house to celebrate Taco Tuesday every week. We haven't found our 'go to' taco place yet, so every week, we've been trying out a new Mexican restaurant in the area. Mexican happens to be my favorite cuisine, so even when it's bad, it's usually still good. First off, let me say that El Rodeo is off the beaten path. We were cruising out some back roads and I thought, "there is no way that there is a Mexican restaurant out here". I would be wrong. Next to nothing sits El Rodeo. What brought me to try El Rodeo was their advertisement for 99 cent tacos on Tuesday. Now my husband is a fajita guy, so he could care less whether the tacos are on sale or not. But me? I like my tacos! So we drove to the middle of nowhere to give El Rodeo a try. They weren't busy at all. The place looked clean with typical Mexican restaurant decor, with bright colors and drawings and paintings of Spanish background. There was one other couple dining in, a birthday party in the backroom and 1 elderly lady waiting for her pickup order. We were greeted and sat immediately. A young man asked for our drink orders and we ordered our typical, "water with lemon". I can't have soda or alcohol, so unfortunately, this doesn't leave me with many beverage options at most restaurants. Someone brought out the typical chips and salsa and the waiter asked if we were ready to order. I first inquired about the 99 cent tacos, "What comes on your special 99 cent tacos?"? Instead of first answering me, he immediately offends me when he says, "You can't just order water for the 99 cent tacos. You have to order a soda or a beer". First off, it doesn't say that on your advertisement. Secondly, I have a medical condition in which I can not drink soda or alcohol. And lastly, we weren't just ordering the 99 cent tacos. I would also be ordering the guacamole and my husband was getting the chicken and steak fajitas. So it's not like we came in to just order 1 taco each for 99 cent. It was rather presumptuous and rude of him to say that. Once I explained the above, he said, "...okay well that should be fine" and then answered me. By then I was already irritated and said, "Well if it's a problem, we can certainly take our business elsewhere". He said, "No, it wasn't". So we went on to order the side of guacamole ($4.50). I got a chicken taco and a ground beef taco (99 cent each); neither of which I finished. My husband ordered the chicken and steak fajitas (which was $15 to $16) and the waiter asked if he would like "corn or flour tortillas" at which he replied 'corn'. Now onto the food. The salsa was okay. It was tangy with a little kick, which I like. The chips were hot and fresh and not all broken, like you get at some restaurants. The guacamole was super good. I didn't care much for the flavors in the meat in my tacos, and did not finish either one of them. My husband really enjoyed his fajitas, but they never did bring out his tortillas. I mentioned that I could say something to the waiter, but he insisted that I don't. Service could have been better. Not only were we immediately offended, but they forgot part of our order. Otherwise their fajitas seem to be on point; the tacos not so much. With that being said, we won't be coming back here mainly because of their service. Work on your service skills El Rodeo and perhaps you might get more business. read more

This used to a place we frequented several times a mo th. Today, our server was condescending and rude. Pupusas were served swimming in liquid from the curdito and tasted like vinegar. When brought to the servers attention she told us that it was a sauce and people liked it that way. We explained we never had pupusaa served this way. just your standard Mexican place. came with a group of 6 for lunch and of course had a hard time deciding with the massive menu! i got the carnitas and made sure I left no leftovers! loved that the chips came with salsa and this yummy white sauce. service was slow for an empty restaurant, our food took awhile to come out and we wanted and extra side and hot sauce but our waitress never came back to check on us so we had to go find her to ask. lastly, we were a little disappointed when we were not told that someone's request for lettuce and tomato on their tacos cost them $3 extra. read more

First of all, El Rodeo 2, the new one on Salem Church Road is fantastic. Service is always fantastic, food is all hot, chips and salsa are wonderful, and every item on the menu has been exceptional. The manager is friendly and when he comes over to our table spends a few minutes speaking in Spanish to my partner. We visit here 4 or 5 times a month. Absolutely LOVE the food. read more

First impressions, cute little Mexican themed place with a flying insect problem. Sat down and ordered a lunch Chimichanga and the wife a lunch Taco, then hit the Latrines. The bathroom was remodeled but extremely dirty, hot, musty, and a little stinky. Sat back down and the waitresses brought us Salsa and chips. Our food came and it was fair at best. Mine was some Goya rice, pureed beans, and the Chimi. My wife's said her food was "good at best" as well and her House Margarita was "horrid". Final thought , the waitresses were nice and very efficient. Food was good at best. Establishment was clean and nice except the bathroom. Prices are extremely fair. I would only be back if I'm in the area and get a taste for Mexican. read more

I wasn't too sure about this place when they opened, but they have turned into a consistent performer. The service is pretty good, but could be a little more attentive. I've never had a bad meal. Most have been very good. Best chili rellenos in town, i like to add salsa roja to them. Ceviche is good too. read more

Good food, mediocre service, the restaurant looks cool. But its really expensive, 100+ for, 4 entrees, and 2 drinks.

It was delicious, I was motivated to come because of the promise of pupusas, but as a reviewer stated before they don't serve them Sundays. We had pollo Veracruz and the fajita caribeña. The skillet was sizzling long after I was done and the taste DID NOT disappoint. For dessert we ordered the sopopillas ( not NM style) but was great non the less. My only issue with the restaurant was using the restroom. There was no soap in the ladies bathroom, only hand sanitizer. Sharing the bathroom with someone who worked in the kitchen was concerning- I hope she washed her hands the real way before she started working with food again. I regularly attend the "Bike Nights" here and am rarely disappointed. The food is fantastic quality, with a good selection. The location is easily accessible with plenty of parking. The bike nights are a blast,hosted by "Big O Bike Shop", a local American Motorcycle service shop that also does patch sewing and has sundry items for sale. The usual crowd is there, and everyone is friendly and welcoming. The only negatives I have are - Don't try to customize any of your orders. Every time this happens, I either get ignored or it gets taken down wrong. The other negative is a small one - The servers seem to disappear after they bring your meal. I usually decide after I eat to have dessert or not (usually yes). Speaking of dessert - holy cow - the home made Tres Leches cake is amazing, and worth every single calorie. Totally not good. I stopped there with my 5 year-old granddaughter after her ballet class. She loves Mexican and said Geemaw I want to eat here tonight. After a fashion we were seated at a booth down near where the music happens. We like to sit beside each other rather than across from each other and she chose the side not visible to a server. We sat. And sat. And sat. We left. As we walked the long walk out, it was quite evident no one was even on the radar to wait on us. No one paid us any mind as we left. Visited El Redeo with a neighbor on "Taco Tuesday". We ordered 3 tacos each (I had chicken; he had beef with cheese, etc). We were the only 2 customers and it still took almost 40 minutes before our order was served. After finishing our first round of tacos we decided to order two more each. As I was eating my chicken taco this time I felt a different type of "crunch" between my teeth- it was not the familiar taco crunch I'm accustomed to - the crunch turned out to be fragment of chicken bone. I immediately informed the server of the issue and showed her the fragment. She apologized several times for what happened and said she would speak to the cooks about what happened. Dismayed and hesitant, I tried the second taco - this time an entire (small) bone was in the taco! I called the server over and she again sincerely apologized and this time went to the owner/manager who had just arrived in the restaurant. While waiting to speak to the owner/manager I noticed a maintenance guy working on the beer taps. Instead of checking on us (the only 2 customers in the restaurant at the time), the owner went behind the bar to see what was going on with the beer tap- she then walked off and didn't come to our table until I had to ask the server to find her and tell her that she has customer issue. The manager finally came to our table with an annoyed look of her face - I calmly explained that there were bone fragments and a small bone in my tacos. Her reply was that she had "just arrived and I have a lot of things on my mind"... she then went on to say that "if you want an apology, then I am sorry" - as if I had to ask for an apology otherwise it wasn't coming from her. After some discussion she said that "you don't have to pay if you don't want to" (yet in fact I was willing to pay for my neighbor's meal because his meal wasn't affected). Still shocked at her previous comments I kept my composure and we left. Needless to say I didn't pay for anything. I understand that these things can happen and was trying to be calm and not blow things out of proportion. But when the owner/manager didn't have any concern for my well-being as a customer who frequently visited the restaurant, it changed everything. I will say that the servers were great during the entire incident - I commend them for their concern and quickly addressing the issue. But the owner/manager's complete lack of professionalism and total disregard towards a potential health emergency was shocking to say the least. Not once did she ask was I okay or make a sincere apology for what happened. Her actions were totally unprofessional and unacceptable. It will be a long time (if ever) before I return to that establishment. read more

We get coupons in the mail regularly so we finally ventured out to give El Rodeo a shot. We were greeted immediately by a friendly hostess. While looking over the menu we were given chips and salsa. We ordered draft beer. A Corona Light and a Pacifico which came out quick and were nice and cold. They have about 8 different beers on tap including a few other Mexican beers. The chips were quite light and tasted good. The salsa tasted very fresh and was quite good. Our food came out in a very reasonable amount of time and everything tastes great. Easily a four star spot. Our server and those we encountered were all very friendly and helpful. Between the food and the service we will definitely be back again soon. Highly recommend! read more

We finally stopped here today for lunch. It was very good. It is a Tex Mex place with the bright colors and the banners and ribbons hanging from the ceiling. The staff was friendly and attentive. Our server was there when we needed something but was not intrusive. A delicate balancing act that she had perfected. We've been looking for a place for nachos since we moved to FXBG. We found it at El Rodeo. The nachos were huge. They were topped with seasoned and flavorful chicken, chorizo and bacon. Yes, bacon. The white cheese and cheese sauce on top were tasty. The chips were light and crisp. It was great. We decided to share a quesadilla - I can't remember what it was called, but it was like a fajita quesadilla. It was stuffed with beef, onions, peppers all seasoned and fried up. Sides were re-fried beans, rice, sour cream, and a salsa verda that were all great. It was huge. I was expecting a flat quesadilla but it was not. It was thick and filling. We enjoyed the food a lot and we found the environment to be relaxing and fun. We are pleased to announce that we finally found a place to get nachos. If you like Tex Mex, check it out! read more
