In a stretch of road in Guavate rull of lechoneras, it is easy to skip over a street food vendor like El Rey Lechonera in favor of a more traditional sit-down restaurant. But I'm glad my gf and I stopped here (though a lot of it was simply convenience since it was later in the evening and we didn't feel like driving around in the dark).
However, we were rewarded with our choice as El Rey was definitely lively. El Ray is seemingly more for locals who wanted to come, enjoy the outdoor seating, and sing and dance to those karaoking the night away. We, however, were just there for some pig...roasted, delicious, succulent pig. And we not disappointed. In addition to the lechon, we added in some plantains, rice, sausages, and pork stomach (which I love, but was hesitant to try at a street vendor in PR...but no bowel problems to speak of afterwards!).
All of it was good. All of it was cheap. Throw in a few Madallas and you're in for a very nice meal. So don't judge this little street vendor by its cover, stop in and order yourself a plate (or two or three) and just do as the locals do. read more
