Katz in NY or a Sarbett on any corner are great. These are regular hotdogs but the toppings seal the deal. You haven't had a hot dog until you've had a reforzado, no it's not an island staple but it's a Cagueno staple. Mashed potato, hotdog, shredded chicken, ground beef, then some cooked onions, hot sauce, and mustard (ketchup if you like) is a meal all alone. I land at SJU, pick up my rental and head to Pinones for some pinchos, alcapurias, empanadas, ensalada de pulpo y cerveza. Then I go see my mom's in Caguas for dinner. The next day, rest assured I am at plaza del carmen for my 1-3 reforzados with some passion fruit juice or a coke if I need some pep. I enjoy my trip and stop at the reforzados 1-2 more times and sometime take a couple on the airport-plane back to DC, lord knows they are cheaper than anything at the airport. When they move, and they have over the past 30 years, my uncle at Carribean cleaners asks his cop clientele, they always know where to find them. I'll be there April 18-22 to enjoy a few dogs this year. read more
