I've been back a couple of times to purchase a few things in bulk. In the last visit, I was hungry for lunch so I grabbed un pollo asado... that chicken is life-changing! Ese pollo es muy bueno!!!!. If you want somewhere just to run in and get some decent produce, this store seems to be good for that. It does not, however, feel clean or fresh inside. Stick with canned goods. Their bread selection is one of the disappointing Mexican bakeries. There are some really good Mexican bakeries, you just have to dig for them. This is one of those places that uses the same dough and topping for their breads, they're just in one or two additional shapes- same exact dough and custard, though. Many Mexican bakeries do this. Moving on to the deli: I ordered tacos and caldo de pollo (chicken soup). The tacos are awful. Phoenix has awful tacos. The "carne asada" is pounded beef and never charred or marinates with orange juice and spices. The asada meat here in Phoenix is by and large steak that seems pre-chewed and this location is no exception. The al pastor (pork) had pineapple in it- it's only redeeming factor. The barbacoa was well seasoned and tasted good but was too tough to chew. It's supposed to be shredded pork by the looks of it. The lengua (tongue) was the best taco- always is- but no salt on the meat and tender, but dry. They use those horrible little white corn flour tortillas that fall apart on you. Mine fell apart before I even paid for my food, because I was standing in line behind someone, waiting a couple minutes. If you MUST try the tacos, request yellow corn tortillas on the side. They are the proper size and texture, should come in a plastic bag, warm, and you just immediately flip your taco meat over into this tortilla. They don't disintegrate on you. The rice was SO perfectly seasoned.... but a little crunchy. I got black beans. They do NOT season them beyond salt. Next time I will save money and just pop open a can of black beans. Same difference, truly. They only have salt in them. The chicken soup was very good, but I got mostly broth with one celery chunk, one carrot stick, and the chicken. No corn or extra veg. The juices or "aguas" are the super cheap variety- the equivalent to a really good brewed iced tea that you can find sometimes at a fast food place, vs the other fast food places that offer you LIPTON on tap. They aren't worth the sugar and chemical ingredients. There are REAL special fruity drinks in Mexican stores/restaurants and these are just a shadow in comparison. Overall, a big let down because of bakery, deli "food", and sense of order and cleanliness. Find somewhere authentic to eat and shop- when you find a place, it's worth it (p.s. I was born American but lived 7 years in Mexico, this is t a blind opinion/review. It really was just less than mediocre. Their taco salsas suck too- red and green are both bitter. No salsa bar, they just give you one ramekin of each and cilantro, onion, and lime. No carrots, guacamole, salsa selection, etc. read more

Wow, a great find. I stopped in to get a few food and needed household staples about three weeks ago, while shopping in the strip mall. It would not have been my store of choice but the heat and gas prices drew me to this store to save a trip. It is now my new favorite place to shop. The store consists of about three individual counters to pay separate where you can get food. You can order and sit at a picnic table, kind of like a food court. Of course there is the smaller grocer. The counters include a pastry/bakery/goodie counter, a salsa type bar counter, and a food court for Mexican food plates and tacos as such. The first time I walked in I really just needed a few items. However, when I saw the chips on an End Cap near the bakery, suddenly I was in the mood for a salty treat. lol Not knowing what I was grabbing I purchased a bag of their deep fried, corn tortilla chips. OMG, is all i have to say. They are the best I have ever had in a grocers and rival many 5 star restaurants in town. The next time I visited, I purchased some guacamole from their salsa bar, pastries from the bakery, and sat down to have some tacos from the food court. It was all very tasty. Maybe next time I will get some Salsa and Pico from their salsa bar and a burrito plate from the food court. It all looks so good. The tacos are street tacos and pretty much the same size they are everywhere else, including in Mexico. Just ignore the comment made by another Yelper. Street tacos are suppose to be smaller. This is my new favorite place to shop and get a yummy meal. Everything you need is at this store if you like Latino food and culture. My boyfriend recently showed me this spot and it's only about a 10-14 minutes drive from both our homes. The bakery has so many fresh, colorful pastries and desserts. The deli has great options for a quick snack or walk over to the bar area where they have a small restaurant style to-go (or sit at the tables) and get a taco, burrito, or combo meal. Get ready to find all your childhood favorite snacks! Great Authentic Mexican Market in Phoenix! We come here for fresh made tortillas, frutas drinks, amazing produce prices and more. You should grab salsa, premade guacamole and chips too! You can get like 1 lb. of limes for less than a $1 where if I got to my local grocery store they are 2 for $1- that is a huge savings. They have authentic produce, spices and deli foods that you may not find at your local grocery store- you definitely feel like you are in Mexico when you are inside this store (I am Mexican, so going into a place like this just feels like when I was little). Rancho market has some of the best tres leches cake. I also had to purchase basil and they had some very old prepackaged bags in with the produce. Luckily there was a staff member restocking all the fresh herbs the morning I was there and noticed the basil that was already sitting there to be a bit wilted so he told me to wait a couple minutes and he'd be back with more. He handed me a package of nail he pulled from the back and handed it to me. Every employee at this store is extremely friendly and willing to goo the extra mile to help. read more

I was really pumped when I arrived at ranch market. I was like a kid at a candy shop. Upon walking in it reminded me of Mekong market in Mesa which is an easy five star rating. I am mediately went over to the taco stand and ordered two tacos. They were so small. I literally ate them in one bite. As I was walking around it was clear the food was low-quality. What a bummer. I used to like this store, but as I continue to shop here I have noticed The ready-made sandwiches need to be fixed. They charge a high price and throw anything together. like we will eat anything. It has become more about money than customers. the meat department slicing meat with a dirty cutting machine you can still see the residue on your meat from another cut letting you know it has not been properly cleaned. no chicken flavor rice they seem to have cultural differences as well. they deserve a 2 star. read more

Finally after watching for months the old Fry's is now El Rancho Market and it's finally open! The grand opening was huge! This place was monster packed, all lines were over 10 people deep. They had order takers at the fresh food counter because behind the counter, they were just buried. Debit/Credit card machines were down while the band outside played loudly. People were dancing in the parking lot which was nearly impossible to navigate! Crazy crazy! The red and green chile looked amazingly irresistible but alas I was unable to sample any, was just to crowed! Though tomorrow is a new day, or is today a new day? I guess the shortest way to describe this market is that looks like an abridged version of Pro's Ranch Market. You will find lots of fresh produce, hot and cold prepared foods, baked goods, meats, beverages, and groceries. There's also a nice selection of Mexican cheeses which are hard to find in regular supermarkets. The market could use a bit of sprucing up to make it look less old and more organized; but other than that, it is a good place to shop for inexpensive groceries and Mexican specialty foods. read more

Went to this place for the 1st time and we loved it! I had menudo seafood soup, it was amazing! My niece had quesadilla and my husband had beef steak tacos, they were delicious as well. Visited here today after work, to purchase the Regular Flour Tortillas 10 ct: 2 for $3. Also, to try the Butter Cup Cakes: 3 for $0.99. My total should have been $3.99. Yet, the Cashier's total was $4.80. I brought this difference in price to her attention. With a Super-Stern look on her face, she corrected the mistake. Yet, never gave any attempt to apologize. This price/sales discrepancy, was not a big deal. What is a Big Deal for me, is feeling like a valued customer. The color of my Black Skin should Never, Ever, lead to another race of Americans automatic disapproval. I should be able to go were I please without feeling like my race of people are not worthy. I love to travel, love to shop for bargains. There's no way this treatment of race still exists. But, it does. AND, it's time for it to totally stop. Ridiculously cheap prices here! Fresh produce, prepared foods, meats, Mexican specialty foods and the like. They even have fresh juices and tortillas here. Great stop in place for produce, meats and cheeses. I walked out with around 4 bags of groceries that cost at most $20 where I would've paid more at any other grocer. Didn't really need help from any employees other than the cashier at the register, but even she was really nice and quick with the groceries. The area is a bit sketchy, mostly because of construction and that the plaza is so open and empty. read more

This place is down the street from a place I've been staying at lately, and I only ventured in here in search of some Sprite and/or Squirt. I had heard about how cool this place and places like it are, but I finally got a chance to see for myself. Its a regular grocery store for the most part, focusing on Mexican goods. What makes this place awesome is the whole side of the store that has hot food and baked goods. The assortment of multi-colored baked yummies is awe-inspiring. People buzz around the display case with trays that they put their chosen stuff on, and then go to the checkout. Everyone I've seen in my few visits there have their trays overflowing with all kinds of breads and deserts. There is a long long counter full of hot foods. I have no clue what most of it is, but it all looks delicious. The signs are in Spanish, but if you know Mexican food, then you'll probably know what all the stuff is. But someone like me can only asked stupidly, "Uh, wut dat?" Today I couldn't resist something in a tray at the end of this counter. It looked like some kind of roasted pork, all gooey and tender and amazing looking. I asked what it was and the guy said pork, I asked to taste it and he let me, and then I got a pound of it. This is what I've been wanting for so long...slow roasted pig. I've only dreamed of what that skin must taste like, and now I know. Unbelievable. There is also another counter island in the middle of this section that seems to have a lot of sides and deserts in it. It all just looks so appetizing. Its not a good idea to come in here when you're hungry. I admit, if you're clueless about Mexican cuisine then you will be a little lost. You won't know what to order. You won't know what tastes good and what you won't like. But that is part of the whole culinary adventure. I say embrace it. As far as being a supermarket, its ok. The prices are the same as other places like Fry's, but not as many sales going on. But who cares about that stuff. The place to be is over by those display cases of goodness. read more

I was taken to the right area and turned over to another gentleman who took care of me. I tried a red chili tamale and a pork tamale. El Rancho is a shopping experience. The store is smaller than most, but they seem to pack in twice the amount of stuff. The aisles are packed with all the usual groceries, and tons of imported specialties, but the real treasure in El Rancho is all around the perimeter of the store. They have the most beautiful meats, poultry and fish. I'm accustomed to butchers in stores and did not appreciate how, in Phoenix, most grocery stores do not have butchers. El Rancho has butchers working there who will cut anything the way you want it. In addition, at the end of the poultry, meat and fish counters (which are huge and spectacular) there is a section devoted entirely to Mexican cheeses... Queso Fresco, Cojito and all sorts of Mexican white cheeses. The aroma of fresh tortillas hits you as soon as you walk in the door. They have their own tortilla factory in the corner. A huge bag of white corn tortillas for tacos was $1.99. There were at least 6 different kinds of tortillas in many different sizes. The hot foods section had at least 3 different soups, and 6 different hot dishes. They also had a cold counter that had fresh cut fruit, salsa, fruit cocktails and at least 6 kinds of fresh juices. I can't remember all of them, but I do remember that one was watermelon. They all looked delicious. The bakery was filled with heavenly looking pastries and cakes. They also have plenty of breads cookies, and pan dulce. The produce section was beautiful and diverse. The counters were stacked with ripe peppers and chilies. They stock all the usual grocery fare and lots of specialty items. They had big bags of fire roasted green chilies for $1. It is a wonderful place, and even though they were quite busy, customers did not appear to be waiting very long for any service or checkout. Parking is easy, and the location is good for me. The construction on 19th Ave is a little bit of a hassle, but It's well worth the visit. read more

The staff working here are nice but let's face it, I didn't come here for a meet & greet. I came here to buy meat and chicken because it's a lot cheaper then buying it at your local Frys or Walmart. Cereal, yogurt, cookies, milk, orange juice, etc is expensive here. I'm talking about a buck more than most supermarkets The beer is cheaper sometimes but you have to use the coupons from the weekly ads you get through the mail. This Ranch Market is not crowded like the ones around the west valley either. I think it's because they don't play the typical Mexican music you hear us Mexicans playing in our backyard while drinking. Lol. They play different styles of spanish music. It attracts customers and keeps the paisas from just hanging out in the store. The Mexican bread and tortillas are good but I would recommend you come here solely to buy your meats and chicken. Produce is good when there are sales all the time for that too. Everything else will cost you more. read more

I live in Phoenix, AZ and have been to the El Rancho store on 19th Ave & Dunlap. I went in to purchase Mexican candy to share at work and was really impressed with the large selection. I bought several different types it was so fun to try authentic Mexican candy. Went to the deli and couldn't resist all the yummy homemade food. I tried their tamales, chicken and beef burritos, spanish rice and cheese enchiladas. Loved everything, went back for more the next week. Tried their free green chili sauce that they offered with my purchases. It was delicious, better than any off the shelf brand. Went straight to their other counter and bought a pint of it, I crave their green chili sauce! Got me going back to the store on a weekly basis. I am caucasian and all their employees were really friendly and patient they smile and say hello when walking through the door. This store is super clean and the manager made a couple of copies of documents that I needed. He didn't charge me and offered me a chair so I could wait a few minutes comfortably. I love, love, love this store!! It is always orderly and clean. I check their sales ad every week and stock up on sale items. I wish the store was bigger with more products I would buy anything this store sells, I trust their judgement with selecting products to sell to their customers. When you stop by, be sure to pick up a pack of their homemade tortillas and taco chips you will not be disappointed. Also stop by their bakery. Their cupcakes are beautiful I shared them proudly with my co-workers. told everyone I purchased them at this store. I work a few blocks away and want all my co-workers to shop there, I want to keep this store in business, its my very favorite I feel so blessed to have this store so close to my home and workplace. My boyfriend and I had a bad experience here. We ordered from their in store restaurant "4 chicken tacos" He even said 4 pollo tacos. The employee misunderstood. She gave us 4 whole chickens and charged us 34$! I just wanted an inexpensive lunch, 4 chicken tacos and a side of black beans should have cost us 13$. I went back a minute or 2 later and asked if I could have a refund. They said no because of covid. However we didn't touch the food, it was still in the bags covered up. I talked to 3 people telling me that my boyfriend said 4 whole chickens, which he did not. He told the employee twice, and she still gave him 4 whole chickens. I asked to speak to the manager but a different employee told me the manager won't be there until Monday. My boyfriend understands Spanish, he went back there without me to get a refund and the manager was there but the manager wouldn't talk to him. They still refused our money back. I'll never go back there. Horrible customer service! I understand the policy of not returning food because of Covid, but it was 2 minutes later, we had a receipt and everything was untouched except the outer grocery bag.
