I was looking for banana leaves. None available. Place was not full of the authentic Mexican ingredients I was looking for.

We came here on August 22nd a little close to their opening start time…read more I had heard about this place from a couple of friends and they said that we needed to try it if we ever made it to the Santa Cruz area. During our trip we ended up getting the cove and boardwalk sandwich. For about and hour because you wanted to do some other things around the Town period and doing so by the time we got to the beach and wanted to food the Brad was a little bits off and the flavors felt a little muted. Again not because the quality was bad, it was more because the heat from the sandwiches just took away from the overall quality as it was sitting waiting to be eaten. The thing that I liked a lot about the food was that it was definitely a full sandwich. We were able to split those two between myself and my husband and we definitely were very full. Almost so full that we were not able to eat the banana pudding that we had bought. But we mustered the courage and ended up having a little bit of room to finish it off. Again same suggestion eat it sooner rather than later still good but because it got warm it didn't have that overall effect of banana pudding that I wanted. Regarding the space itself, it is definitely very popular and it's nice because there is a good amount of seating inside especially when it's a little bit warmer and if you do want to enjoy the sun you can sit outside on the little bar style setting that is in front of the restaurant. I would definitely come back to this place and make sure that the next time I ordered my food I eat it there at the restaurant versus waiting a bit longer to try to find that perfect picture by the beach.

The sauces and pickles provided a really nice contrast, and the bread was great as well. You can definitely smell the smoke throughout the restaurant. Overall, a super solid sandwich. There's a decent amount of seating both indoors and outdoors, and the line and service moved relatively quickly. They also have some nice snacks and other things to enjoy alongside the sandwich. Seems like a local favorite, and I can definitely see why. Will be back to try some of their other sandwiches.

I think you can make the wrong choice on your 1st/2nd/3rd visit depending on your taste, but I also think you should come back and you'll absolutely find something that 100% tickles your pickle. I've tried most of their hot sandwiches: - Noni's Pesto Chicken: this is one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. It's not very complex but for some reason the combination of flavors just is *chefs kiss*. 5* for this alone, don't fight me - Surf City Philly: can be surprisingly spicy, heavy but SO good. This is my third favorite. - Chicken Cowabunga: not that great, would skip, but I also have a whole website on fried chicken sandwich rankings so I'm picky - Vulcan Mind Melt: sounds so good on paper but it's just heavy. I would skip - Crispy Cod Wrap: I've had a bite or two of this and I thought it was pretty good but not that memorable - Pork Belly Banh Mi: this was good, and I don't usually like pork belly - Chipotle Chicken Club: also kinda heavy but I really enjoyed this! This is my second favorite. - Cubano: not particularly memorable Not a sandwich but Beer Barnacles: ugh I enjoyed this more often than I should have, sorry not sorry. 5*

Food: 5 stars. Service: 3 stars…read more The food was excellent and made the visit worthwhile. The staff, however, came across as a bit cold and unfriendly. I get that it's beach time and things move at a different pace, but being a little nicer to customers and visitors would make a big difference. Hopefully next time the service will be as good as the food. EDITED - Saturday, June 20, 2026 I'm updating my review after reading the owner's response. First, I want to clarify that the response appears to be a copy-and-paste message aimed at people leaving negative reviews. If you had actually read my original review, you would have noticed that I never complained about the food, the wait time, prices, staffing, or anything related to the quality of the business itself. In fact, I enjoyed the food and had no issue waiting. I visited on a Thursday, and the café wasn't packed. The owner was clearly working hard, and I respect that. However, when I walked in and said hello, I was completely ignored. There was no greeting, no acknowledgment, and no sense that my business was appreciated. That was the only reason I left a 3-star review in the first place. The response talks about staffing shortages, minimum wage, food costs, and the challenges of running a small business. I understand all of that. Running a business is difficult. But those challenges don't really address the point I was making. A simple "Hi," "Welcome," or even a quick smile costs nothing and goes a long way. I also don't think customers should be made to feel responsible for business challenges such as labor costs or rent. Those are realities of ownership that every business owner has to navigate. That said, after thinking about it, I'm changing my review from 3 stars to 5 stars because the food was genuinely good, and I do support small businesses. My hope is simply that future customers are greeted with a little more warmth and appreciation when they walk through the door. One final thought: when someone leaves a critical review, it may be worth responding directly to their experience rather than posting a generic response. Sometimes there's valuable feedback hidden inside reviews that aren't really about the food at all. I wish you and your business success, and I genuinely hope you continue serving great food for years to come.

I ordered a latte with almond milk, and it was made to perfection--smooth, rich, and nicely strong. My husband had a mocha with almond milk, which he also really enjoyed. He added a poppy seed muffin that was served warm and was very good--a nice touch. The inside of the café is cozy and welcoming. We decided to take our coffee to go and sit by the beach, which is just one block away. We will definitely be back."
