El Puerto is a refresh concept at the Fairmont Mayakoba. Serving Asian inspired food, we were intrigued and had dinner there two nights ago. The menu features ceviches, tiradito, sushi rolls, small plates, and entrees. I liked the fact that the drink menu featured a handful of interesting sakes, and decided on the junmai daigingo to start. It was excellent, very dry, crisp with a very smooth finish. My only complaint was that it was an incredibly small pour. Sake is similar to wine, so I assumed they would have given me at least a 4-6 oz pour, but it seemed more a shot. I started off with the hamachi tiradito, which was excellent. The hamachi was very fresh, large cuts, and seasoned beautifully in lemon, lime, chili, and peppers. It was quite a large serving, and likely shareable for two people. I would definitely order this dish again. We also tried the scorpion roll, which was a special that night. The roll was also quite large filled with a tasty tempura shrimp. For our entrees we ordered the steak and the duck tacos. I thought the steak was outstanding. A very lean and large cut of flank steak, but which had been seasoned well and was very tender. We also enjoyed the duck tacos, but the steak was by far our favorite. We ended our meal with the deconstructed key lime pie. This came highly recommended by our server and was outstanding. Very deep, bold, tart key lime with wonderful cream and a light crunchy crust. This reminded me of the delicious key lime pie we could only find in Florida. It was so good, we considered going back another night to get more! Overall we had an excellent menu at El Puerto. The service was great and I liked the fact that the chef came out at the end of our meal to welcome us and ask how we liked our meal. If you are looking for a good Asian Fusion meal in the Mayakoba area, I would highly recommend El Puerto. read more

This place has asian type food in the Fairmont Mayakoba resort. You don't be disappointed with any of the food here and there is a great view of the lake and the suites behind the lake. I'm not sure if I would eat here if I didn't stay here but since I was staying the Fairmont for the week, it was very convenient. read more

Stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba and this was by far my favourite restaurant at the resort! Much like the other restaurants (entire resort for that matter) the service was fantastic and friendly. We tried the vegetarian sushi roll, crab roll, and the salmon nigiri as appetizers. It was definitely the freshest and tastiest sushi I have ever had. They are rolled to order and all kinds of good, if I had to pick a roll I'd go with the vegetarian but either way you can go wrong. For main we shared the El Puerto Fried rice with all three proteins (shrimp, duck confit, and pork). I don't know what to say, it was like nothing I have ever had before. Perfectly cooked and the flavours just explode in your mouth. This might be one of my favourite dishes ever. In fact it was so good, we decided to go back the next night and order it again ! Hands down the best bbq chicken I've ever had. It was so rich and delicious it tasted more like pork. This place is fantastic, cannot recommend highly enough. Waitstaff is friendly and helpful. This is probably the best restaurant amongst the three located inside Fairmont Mayakoba. Most of the dishes utilized local ingredients. My favorite dish was the Duck Confit Taco. Instead of using corn or wheat tortilla, they use local grown thin slice of sweet potatoes. This combination is simply so good, the slightly acidic juices from local grown sweet potatoes cut into the duck meat, made it a very well balanced dish. Hamachi Tiradito is also a must try, it has a spicy kick and it was very special. Great ambient and attentive services. It was a memorable dining experience. read more

Beautiful restaurant located in the Fairmont Mayakoba. Marco,our server, was delightful and gave wonderful recommendations. If you like sushi the Angry Tuna roll is a must. The spicy yellowfin tuna was unbelievably fresh and paired well with the avocado and cucumber inside the roll. We also tried the Wagyu roll -the serrano chili made it a lil spicy but the tempura vegetables on top were delicious. I ordered the Black miso cod which was cooked perfectly and plated with turnips,asparagus and cherry tomatoes. A little pricey but overall enjoyable. Topped off the night with a molten sphere desert. Little balls of ooey gooey goodness with a dollop of amaretto ice cream. Very enjoyable dinner and can't say enough great things about the service read more

If I could, I would rate El Puerto as 3 1/2 stars. We decided to have dinner here the second night that we were at the Fairmont. We had made reservations for early evening, but we didn't have to as there were only two other tables filled in the large dining area. The food here is Asian/Mexican fusion, and overall, it was good. We ordered: Hamachi tiradito: sashimi was nicely presented Shrimp fried rice: our favorite dish of the night, and a good portion Asian short rib: short rib was tender, served over mashed potatoes Since it is the signature restaurant at the resort, it was on the pricey side. If you are looking for a break of Mexican food, this would be a good place to try (you can also get sushi at the bar on the upper level). read more

Food is excellent but this restaurant has vacant and uncaring service. Waiters disappear and return every 15-30 minutes. Made an Open Table for our anniversary which was noted in the reservation. Beyond the very long waits for attention, there was no acknowledgement of our celebration at all. Very disappointed. Note that the charge for sparkling water is more than US$10 for a bottle. Drinks are cheaper. This is the opposite of other services at the Faitmont. read more

You should only eat here if you're literally so hungry, and there's no where else to go. Imagine the Mojave Desert with no water. In my case, I was there for a conference and ate Mexican food for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 5 days so needed a change. The pro's...the restaurant has a pleasant decor, the staff are friendly and the place is overstaffed. Imagine really bad Panda Express with drugstore sushi. I went there on a Friday night and ordered the following: 1. Teradito for 2: essentially tuna and hamachi nigiri for $18. Not great, but edible as it came in a ponzu sauce; 2. Angry tuna roll: non descript, but they did a good job of cooking/rolling the rice, but that's about it. The jasmine rice on the side for $4 was mushy and seemed endemic to the two Asian themed restaurants we ate at (ie, Saffron where we ate night before). Both seemed to overcook their rice; 3. Nuevo Roll: tasteless. Was supposed to be spicy crab; 4. Kung Pao Prawns for $31. Dreadful. The prawns were clearly sitting around prior to cooking. Light soy taste and at first you believe it's a large portion until you realize it's sitting on a soup of brown rice in "Kung Pao" sauce. False advertising. 5. Brüssel Sprouts w/ bacon Chips. Blah blah and no sense of roasting; 6. Key lime dessert. Awful. Think frozen from a grocery store. Overall. Really bad food that's overpriced. read more

We finally got to eat dinner at El Puerto and are so happy we did that we are going there again tonight! I ordered half the sea (oops) but it was all so delicious! I got the tuna and salmon roll (a little bland), a mix of the sashimi (really good), salmon nirigi (amazing), and a salmon sushi roll. My wife wasn't feeling great so the chef special made her a fantastic vegetable soup with a light broth and some vegetarian sushi rolls. She was so happy to have something light but satisfying! Ate dinner at this place twice during our stay at Fairmont Mayakoba. Everything was so good. The first night we ordered the rib eye steak and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. We paired it with the fried rice. My boyfriend especially loved the sushi. We ordered that during both visits. The sashimi(I recommend) was so fresh and the empanadas were crispy. Our last dinner was meant to be at another restaurant that was outside of our resort. We saw that our reservation had been canceled, so we had to scramble to make new plans. We ended up going to the Fairmont's Asian-Latin restaurant, El Puerto. Not knowing how good this would be, we ordered a few starters and shared plates. This is not your typical resort restaurant which charges you because you don't have many options. This is a well run place with well trained staff, which takes care of your needs, but the food is the center of the show. The service was impeccable, a combination of friendly, knowledgeable, not obsequies, fast but not rushing. The appetizers - we tried sushi, Thai chicken in lettuce wrap, empanadas were light, full of flavor, fresh. The main dishes - Black cod and filet mignon - delicious and filling without being overwhelming. Very disappointing. Ate here 2 days in a row for breakfast and the first day the service and food was decent at best. The second day the service was extremely dissatisfying and slow. The food was good, server was not on point. Took forever to get drinks, meals, bread, more drinks, and the check. Not to mention nobody was enforcing wearing face mask coverings inside or in the lobby, at the Fairmount lobby, on the good carts. Very unsanitary and will be avoiding this resort in the Mayakoba resort grounds. We're staying at the Rosewood and everyone wears masks and enforces social distancing unlike the Fairmount. read more

Absolutely the best restaurant on the Fairmont property. We wish that we had made more reservations because they fill up quickly. The Asian- Latin fusion is well done. We had a ceviche sushi roll, mango salad, chicken empanadas, short rib and fried rice followed by two incredible desserts and cappuccino. Everything was delicious. If you are wary or spiced as before ordering because some of the dishes have lots of heat. The only complaint was that the drink service was very slow but the cocktails and nonalcoholic beverage options were all great once they arrived. What an amazing experience. This restaurant is located in the Fairmont hotel. Staff is extremely friendly and attentive they have a sommelier as well. Date night never sounded better! I highly recommend the "hamachi tiradito" and the ceviche roll. Main course is definitely the miso glazed cod, and the deconstructed key lime pie for dessert! El Puerto is this cool, modern, urban-y place that gives you some of that Asian flare you love. I ordered the sushi (when in.. Mexico?) of course.. if I on the menu, I'll take it. I thought the food and the service was great, but let me tell you what I remember most. The most memorable part of our experience wasn't the food, but this great little thing that our server did... My husband unfortunately was on the menu for every mosquito in the area that week, and this night was no exception. The longer we sat there (at our outdoor table.. beautiful setting, by the way), the more he was bit. He finally got up from the table and said he was walking back to our room to use some bug spray because he couldn't stand it anymore. After about a minute, our server came back with our food and asked if he should take my husbands back until he came from the bathroom, and I explained where he had gone and why, and our server was so upset. He right away went and found us a big can of bug spray and brought it to our table, apologizing over and over. I reassured him that it obviously was not his fault, and thanked him for his thoughtfulness. Of course my husband had already left the table, but the rest of us graciously used his bug spray, and he left it for us for the rest of our dinner, just in case. While the meal and the atmosphere was wonderful, our servers thoughtfulness and urgency to help was what really made all the difference. It was so simple, but he could have easily shrugged his shoulders and not worried about it- after all, my husband had already left to find his own bug spray. But he didn't, he made it his problem and knew that the rest of us may need something as well. I wish I remembered his name, but unfortunately I don't. I hope he knows how appreciative we were of his kindness and small gesture that made all the difference for us that night! read more
