We originally came down this way to see the Christmas lights at Callaway Gardens, and after asking a few locals where to eat, everyone pointed us to El Primo Mexican Restaurant. Let me just say -- I am SO glad we listened. It's about 7 miles down the road in Hamilton, a place we'd never been to and didn't know much about. The storefront is simple and unassuming, but the moment you walk in, it's warm, welcoming, and inviting -- the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable. We ordered beers, I had a premium skinny margarita with a Tajín rim (chef's kiss ), and we shared the combination fajitas. And the food... WOW. The food is freaking amazing. No really -- the food is freaking amazing. Let me say it one more time -- the food is freaking amazing. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The service was awesome -- friendly, attentive, and genuine without being over-the-top. This is not a fussy, pretentious spot -- it's just really, really good food, great drinks, and excellent service. We live in Atlanta, but honestly? I would drive out here just to eat at El Primo. It's that good. If you're anywhere near Callaway or passing through Hamilton, this place is an absolute must-stop. You want good Mexican food, good drinks, and a great atmosphere? Another great take away experience. There are not many food choices on the area, but you can't go wrong here. The menu has a nice selection of freshly cooked food. The inside seating area is very nice, along with an outdoor seating space. Our take away order was ready before cook finish me beer. The person who took my order verified that everything was correct, and I was on my way. My combo fajitas were delicious. Everything was seasoned to perfection. All of the sides were vey good. This was my second visit. We came on opening day several years ago and never made it back. The food is good but a little pricy. Prices are equivalent to a sit-down restaurant, but here you order at the counter and then they bring the food to your table. I think part of the price is small-town tax. Hamilton doesn't have many restaurants and I've heard rent is expensive. Part of what you're paying for is the convenience of not driving to Columbus or Pine Mountain. Margaritas were good, but for $9 we got not-full Solo-size cup. They didn't charge my wife for her second, but I'm not sure if this is typical. I had the barbacoa taco and pollo asado taco. Both were very good, but two tacos left me a little hungry. My wife had the nacho fries with barbacoa. This was a lot more food and we ended up sharing it. It's more than one person would want in many cases. Two drinks, two tacos and the nacho fries was $42 before the tip. As far as ambiance, the place is nicely, if sparsely decorated. It was quiet, which we appreciated, since many places are too noisy with tvs or music blaring. Our only real complaint was that they didn't bring the food at the same time. I had almost eaten all of my taco's before my wife's nacho fries arrived. (She gave me permission to go ahead and eat.) if I had waited, my food would have been cold. read more

I visited a friend in Pine Mountain yesterday and she took me here for lunch and oh my gosh... I'm so glad she did! The employees were so kind & FAST. I got the Taco Bowl with carne asada & my friend got the Street Tacos. Mine was so good, it almost brought a tear to my eye. We enjoyed the afternoon in the open patio, perfect spring temperatures. Overall, it was fantastic, some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. This place is going to be mandatory for all our Pine Mountain visits. read more

It's a quaint small town grill. No much atmosphere. Kind service. The meals are bare bones. Don't expect extras. If you want something you must order it. The beef is cubed in 3mm cubes, kind of odd but works fine. Prices area tad high for the offering. Try the sandwich place across the street. read more

I am not sure if its authenic (I am not Mexican nor have I spent enough time eating authentic Mexican food to validate its authenticity) but the food is very flavorful and tasty. We had chicken quesadillas, chicken nachos and cheese quesadillas from the kids menu. If we are in the area, we will definitely stop by again. read more

The food itself is GOOD but the low quantity and price of the items make it less than average. A side of rice comes in a side salsa cup you would see at Moe's or Barbarito's. If you live in the area it might be convenient if you are craving Mexican just be prepared to pay up a bit more than you may expect. read more

I was as Harris County High for volleyball and was told my options were drive 20 min away, a sandwich chain or the concessions at school I had seen this cute place in downtown Hamilton, so i said why not? It has only been open 2 months (hence lack of reviews). It was very solid Mexican - i has two Tex mex style carne asada tacos, great flavor and good sized for $2.50 each. The chips and queso were good, just the chips needed more salt you can order to stay or go, with ample outdoor seating once it isn't so hot outside it would be a great place to enjoy the patio. The only downside no alcohol, not sure if Harris County is dry or they just don't have a liquor license yet, but a margarita on a hot day would be great! :) read more

Great little place. I had a the barbacoa taco weekend special and an Al Pastor Quesadilla. Both were great, especially with their orange salsa. Honestly, the salsa might have been enough reason to eat here, it's very flavorful and decently spicy. Next time I come here, I'll probably switch the barbacoa into the quesadilla and have the Al Pastor as a taco. read more

If you like cheap Tex mex that is nothing but salt, butter, and cheese, this may not be for you. However, if you like fresh authentic Mexican food, this place is amazing. My family eats here every week (more during ball season) and we have never once had a bad experience. Customer service is always top notch, and the food is consistently delicious. My kids like the kids burrito meal that comes with fries or rice and beans and a drink, and I like the tacos, Tortas, and taco bowl. All the meats are good, but the barbacoa is phenomenal! read more

This spot is a hidden gem! Great place to stop at to and from robin lake. Authentic tacos, Tex mex tacos for those who don't like corn tortillas. My torta was perfect, and the carne asada was the best I've had since living in El Paso. Will be back again, many times. read more

We recently moved into the area and decided to try the closest restaurant that isn't a sandwich shop. I got 3 different tacos and my wife got a bowl. Everything was flavorful and delicious. Like a previous post stated, they don't serve alcohol. Don't think, just go. We've thought about stopping many time on our way back to Columbus from Calloway but was unsure of the level of authenticity we would find in this area. Let me tell you we were VERY THRILLED. I would post photos if we hadn't inhaled everything immediately. We got 3 authentic tacos (pollo, barbacoa & asada) and an al pastor torta and everything was exactly as we wanted it. Torta bread was very good, chips were hot, tacos were juicy, sauces taste very fresh and we already can't wait to come back. The food is pretty good, I'll say that much, it's however unfortunate that the wait times regardless of customer load are significantly long, never had a food order delivered in less than 15 minutes, and 2 of the 3 times we've been here no one was in front of us. On top of it you have to pay for chips and for the salsa, if you order chips you don't get salsa, and you don't get a good amount for what you pay for. My advise, if we have to pay for salsa and Guacamole, then I'd expect a sizeable portion for more than 1 person, and if we have to wait for our food, then offer chips and salsa in order to maintain customer enjoyment, satisfaction, and likelihood of our return. This is a 3rd strike for me and unless I see any changes from reviews or via online, then I sadly won't be returning, and their failure to launch like the coffee shop will be a sad ending. read more

Passed by this place so many times before but decided to stop and try it finally. So glad we did as the food was exceptionally fresh and flavorful. The steak fajitas for one was more than enough for two people and were the best I have had in awhile. I typically do not order this because most places either use less desirable cuts of meat, heap on way too many onions or overcook the veggies. Not the case here at all. Not to make anyone upset but this place is in my opinion better than San Marcos and yes we frequent SM a few times a week, El Primo has more flavor and authenticity, always super fresh and not heavy. Also, they're not super busy and loud so sometimes it's nice to have a semi-quiet meal! My favorite is their steak tacos with everything I can get on it and with both sauces because I love all the flavors! The service was very bad. No greeting when you walk in even though a man was at the counter. He just stared until we ordered. We ordered tacos and my my Mom ordered a burrito. The tacos were cheap but i guess you get what you pay for. They were small and lacking in flavor. There isnt any salsa for your tacos just pico de gallo.
