It was their first day on the new location. When chucking in it carried the same location as the old one on the same Avenue. I wonder how do we change this. I love their food. They season its original home made. Their food reminds me my mother's cooking. She has the same touch and their food tastes like hers. So that is why I love coming here. I love their Gorditas and their sopes and almost everything. Their salsa it's really good and spicy. I love that. They also have mild. Their drinks are delicious as the Jamaica and Horchata waters. They also have bottles imported drinks from Mexico. The service it's casual as you come to the counter and order. If you stay they will call you and you would pick up and go to your table and eat. Two combination burritos for under $25. Yes, by historic (2019) standards it is expensive, but so is everything. However, El Premio Mayor comes in as less expensive, and tastier than Chipotle. The burrito was moist but it held up well inside the tortilla. The asada was okay, and the flavor didn't dominate. The green salsa had no spice to it, so that is that. We appreciated the food. The only negative is the parking lot at the McKinley location. Too few parking spaces, but hey, if you don't mind a short hike there is huge parking in the shopping center across the canal. the food here is actually really good and that's what makes the overall experience frustrating. birria tacos on the weekend are worth the trip alone. rich, messy, the consomé is on point. when the kitchen is firing everything is exactly what you want from a Mexican breakfast spot in Fresno. but getting there is a whole thing. the line can be brutal and the wait doesn't always match up with how long you actually end up waiting once you're inside. organization feels loose and if it's busy things can get chaotic fast. I've had mornings where everything went smoothly and others where I stood around confused about whether my order was even being worked on. closes at 3pm so the window is limited and they really do get slammed during peak hours. the space isn't huge which adds to the pressure. service is friendly when you can get someone's attention but staffing seems stretched thin a lot of the time. the food genuinely deserves better execution around it. if you go, go early, be patient, and know that what eventually hits the table is worth some of the hassle. I keep coming back for the birria which tells you everything. just wish the experience around it was more consistent. read more

Surprisingly, this was my first time trying El Premio Mayor. I've heard plenty about them and that they've won the Taco Throwdowns just never got around to checking them out. This location took over the old Popeyes on McKinley and First. Not the best location but plenty of good food (Pho) around this intersection. Not that that matters to me... some of the best foods I've ever had are in the most unexpected places. You order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. The girl behind the counter greeted us right away, very friendly. We got to sample a couple of their Agua Frescas before making our decisions as well. I got 3 different tacos: Asada, Cabeza, and Tripa (extra crispy). He got all Asada. We weren't huge fans of their Asada. We both agreed it felt/looked/tasted more like ground beef... wasn't cooked how we'd like. Asada was in last place for me. Cabeza was good, came in second. The Tripa was my favorite. Very good. My friend got Lengua and Adobada-- pretty sure she enjoyed hers. For the drink, we agreed on the Cucumber one-- it was very refreshing/yummy. We also sampled the Horchata. It was good but slightly too sweet for me. It's not very big inside but there's still a good amount of tables for guests to sit at. 8-10? More or less. They keep the tables clean... but, there are a lot of flies buzzing around the windows. We had to battle with one very persistent/pesky fly trying to get our food. It's a shame because that definitely docks a point, sorry. Tacos were good, not the best I've ever had though. I know Asada may be a basic meat choice but we've had some damn good Asada... they missed the mark. Also, I hope they find a way to resolve the fly issue. I was thinking i would try your new location on Mckinley & First. You have no website where you can actually take a look at the menu. Your cloud base website area is no longer connected, there is nolink to your page to take you to the menu to order. It took to long to maneuver thru your webiste, and still could not locate a area to review menu and order ahead. So I passed unfortunatley as a customer within a large organization right around the corner from your new store. The chance of employees going to the store to order rather than preorder & pickup is not ideal for lunch crowd. Unfortunate, I would suggest you get the site fixed or present it to the online customer. Rather than foot traffic. Walkin customers have hours to order and eat at lunch. Employees maybe have 30-45 minutes to order, wait, drive back...not ideal it's too bad. I went to McDonalds instead. read more

This place has a new location and it's right across the street in the corner of first and McKinley. They took over the old Popeyes building right by the canal. I'm not sure if they are keeping their old location but lowkey wouldn't make sense to do so if this new location is right across the street. Their menu is pretty simple. I like simple. Not too little and not too much. I noticed a few changes to the building. It's a big window with no window on the wall to order from. They cut off the other part of the dining room where they have the restroom at now. I remember it being L shaped in there. Now when you walk in the building it's just a straight walk. The service was koo. She was patient with me cus I didn't know what to get at first. I ended up with three tacos: cabeza, lengua & tripas. My bf ordered a asada quesadilla and asada tacos. I wish they had a spicy orange habanero sauce but sadly no. Only a red n green sauce. Both wasn't spicy n just okay tasting. I would've wanted my tripa more crispy but maybe I should've told them to do it like that next time. I liked the lengua and cabeza was just ok. Their asada quesadilla was pretty good though! Staff is very kind, helpful, and patient at the this casual eatery. I cannot comment on the ambience or parking as this was a pickup order. Pricing is fair and portions are generous. Salsas are yummy. Food is solid. This restaurant only does dine in or pick up which means no delivery. If you want to order for pickup that will have to occur via a phone call. I liked that the tacos were falvorful and good on its own without much needed added toppings or even the sauce, despite still using the sauce. I also liked that they gave us serrano chili instead of jalapeno. Service was good; the parking lot was full and the restaurant was packed and busy, but despite that ordering was smooth and the wait time wasn't bad... roughly 15min. The atmosphere of the store was okay, a handful of tables and chairs for dining in but most ordered to-go, waited, then left. Apparently some folks preferred the restaurant from before they moved, because the location on Yelp is inaccurate to the actual location of the restaurant now located on the SW corner of First and McKinley. Overall they went above my expectations considering the area, and more importantly I thought the food so far (what little I had) was quite tasty. Definitely would go back out there for more tripas, sooner than later. read more

I am a Carne Asada connoisseur. And a Tripa expert. And both are elite. The tripa was super crispy and had incredible flavor. The asada burrito was packed with rice beans, and meat. We were traveling back home from Northern CA and decided to stop here on our way home, the place was open late so we decided to stop by. There's so many great Yelp reviews by a lot of Yelpers I know so automatically I thought this place would be fantastic. This place might be fantastic to others, but I'm only basing this review solely on my own experience so I highly recommend that you give this place a shot for your own experience because you might end up loving this place. When we got to the place the area reminded me of my childhood hometown (Delano) and my husband's hometown (Earlimart), so I thought to myself that we hit the jackpot since all those spots that look iffy usually end up being one of the best places to eat. The music was super loud and it definitely reminded me of my hometown. My husband got the bacon wrapped burrito; however, I got the Cuban sandwich. We used to have a nice Cuban restaurant in Bakersfield that I miss and so when I saw that on their menu, I knew I had to check it out. We also ordered a few tacos and I didn't look at my food til we headed out. I took a bite of my sandwich and it tasted familiar but I couldn't make it out, so I flashed my light on it and low and behold it was bar s hotdogs and bologna. I'm not knocking it, I grew up on bar s hotdogs, but that's not a Cuban sandwich. I was super disappointed. Maybe I chose the wrong item here. I absolutely hate non charred bar s hotdog and I'm not a fan of bologna, so if I ever was in town, I would never get that sandwich again. So I came to the wrong premio mayor but it turned out to be great tacos. Only problem we had is my brother and I both ordered 5 tacos and he only had 4. The tacos themselves were all great. I tried 5 different kind to see if I can find something wrong with one..asada, adobada, Pollo, cabeza and tripas..all of them were amazing...the salsa wasn't spicy but it was good..they put a serrano on the side so can't complain. Compared to when before they moved to this new location the food quality has dropped. If I'm being honest I think the cook in the old location didn't move to this one. In my opinion, the new cook doesn't know how to prepare food. Specifically the torta, some ingredients were missing, wasn't built right, and overall didn't taste as good to when they were at the old location.
