Enchiladas Michoacanas! That's all I need stepping into this restaurant. My sister introduced me to this place, and I'm actually waiting on her to come back to visit so that we can take another trip back together (it's been a minute)! It's got diner vibes to me. Booths, seats at the front counter facing the kitchen, and a few more tables in the center. It's not the most aesthetic restaurant but... it's on the corner of Blackstone & Dakota-- lol I didn't expect it to be. Friendly staff. Great chefs. Service is always good/quick. We've never waited long to have our orders taken or to receive our food. Now... those enchiladas! They're the closest thing to the type of enchiladas my best friend's mama makes (she's from Michoacan)-- she makes the best, most authentic Mexican food! SO, when I can't get them from her... I know where to go. They are cheese enchiladas-- served with lettuce, tomatoes, avocados, and sour cream.. sprinkled with cotija cheese. They also come with some bomb potatoes and your choice of chicken or steak-- we always go steak. Sooo good and the flavors are always on point! + They give complimentary chips and salsa-- very good. We use that same salsa for the enchis. Pair it with a crisp coke, chef's kiss! If it wasn't obvious, it's a yes from me. Stopped by for brunch. Had chorizo and eggs and my partner had enchiladas. Both plates were delicious. Flavorful food. The home made flour tortillas were great. We will be back to try other dishes. The staff are very friendly and attentive. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch with some friends. Authentic Mexican food at its finest. Homemade tortillas both corn and flour were off the charts! You can tell the food is fresh and well-made. My favorite was the beef fajitas and the chili Verde. The Sunday brunch comes with all you can eat buffet with tortillas and bottomless sodas. Well worth the price! Be sure to ask for the salsa for the chips. So amazing that I put it all over my food! My friend say the breakfast burritos are the best here so that will be the next thing I try. They are both very picky when it comes to Mexican food and the love this place. Plenty of parking in the lot in front of a motel. This is a super cute old school restaurant. Complete with vintage booths and quintessential Mexican decoration. But the best thing is the food. It is my go to for the best beef or chicken soup you've ever had. Whenever I am coming down with a cold, I immediately order the chicken soup. I tell you it's healing! At first glance, I thought for sure my steak was going to be dry. To my surprise, it wasn't. In fact, it was deliciously and flavorful! The beans were very good and although my plate didn't come with rice, I stole some from my partner's plate and it was fluffy, moist and tasty! My eggs were ok but that's my personal preference, I'm very picky when it comes to eggs and like mine fully scrambled with no white. (weird, I know) The potatoes are cut differently which I thought was pretty cool. They were seasoned well and were cooked perfectly with a light crisp but tender inside. The HOMEMADE corn tortillas were soft and pliable unlike other places where they crack when rolled. Definitely trying the flour tortillas on my next visit. The salsa was delicious as well, not too spicy as to not take away the delicious flavor. Service was great! We were greeted with a smile and told to sit where we pleased. The area might scare people away but it's a safe place to eat and totally worth it. The ambiance is super casual but great for dinner dates and family gatherings. read more

I really wanted to like this place but sadly I was unimpressed. I thought this place would be good based off of previous reviews but now I am convince those people aren't familiar with good Mexican food. Service was slow took about 30 min for our food to come which usually isn't a big deal but considering we were literally the only ones in the restaurant, that's unfortunate. All of the food that came out was beautiful and looked picture perfect but when you ate..had no taste at all. We got some items in red sauce and some in green. Both sauces were weird and lacked flavor all around. Beans, no flavor. Meat, very little flavor. I got the sope, it was huge and I was super excited I ordered it but upon eating two bites I couldn't even eat it anymore because it was so bland and tasteless. My chicken enchilada was good and I appreciated how they put sour cream and avocado on the side that was a bonus. Our server was nice. I wouldn't not come back here though. I would understand the large price increase also if the food quality matched but it did not unfortunately so I would not recommend. read more

Update 5 years later: 8/18/21. Introduced my new beau a couple of weeks ago and if it were up to Him we'd eat here everyday! I asked him last night, "Have you had anything here you don't like?" His response, "Well let's see.... I've had enchiladas, molè, chile Colorado, homemade tortillas, chile verde, shrimp cocktail, now the nachos supreme and a burrito supreme.....nope. Everything is AMAZING!" And it is! I wish I was taking pics everytime I came here. I will start and update! It's authentic tasty and a little different each time. Let me start by saying the lady who helped is was extremely nice but quite frankly under performed. Took her 15 minutes to bring us waters. Chips and salsa were great but small portion size and slow waitress killed it. I ordered green enchiladas they served me red. GF ordered egg over medium it came scrambled. Food took so long that it was pointless to have them change. Food came in small portion but overall was very good. Food was good. It was the first time we had been there. It was 4:00pm on a Sunday. Waiting for my car to get detailed (side note: don't go to the great American car wash - terrible experience!) I ordered an ice tea, she said oh sorry we're out of ice tea. I asked if we could get some guacamole for the chips but she came back and said they were out of avocados... which was weird cause there was avocado on both our dishes when the food came out... ha ha ;) But the food was pretty good. The large plate glass windows look out on a gritty scene where one will see homeless, prostitutes, street people. The customers come from all walks of life. The owner is kind and gracious to all, providing food for any who need it. Service can be very slow due to small staff so be patient. Don't come in if you don't have time to wait. Today my Albondigas was awesome: lots of cooked but textured veggies. I put a spoonful of salsa in the broth, which already had lots of flavor, to add just a slight amount of kick. This was exactly what I had been craving. The home-made tortillas were fresh and warn from the griddle. I look forward to eating them on tacos! And I enjoyed the salsa, it's not the same red tomato salsa that I get at most Mexican restaurants. The place is very small and give a "dive" appearance on the outside, but I seek out these hole-in-the-walls because they really focus on food. They are short on staff but I didn't knock off a star because the staff were very attentive. The inside is clean and each plate that went by my table looked yummy. I'll be back for chili verde. My family and I love Mexican food, and if I was rating this place on the food alone, it would get 5 stars. Because of the unappealing ambience and lackluster service, it gets 4 stars. The waiter was 2 starish and the transients popping in and out was bit off-putting. We each had something different and they were all great. The enchiladas Michoacan were fantastic, the chile verde was one of the best I ever had, the carne asada sope was huge and delicious, and the carnitas were superior. I'm not factoring in location or what the outside looks like because some of the best places are in nasty neighborhood strip malls. When we went inside, no one said anything to us even though there were three people behind the counter and it wasn't busy. So, we chose our own table and sat down. After a few minutes they brought us a couple of extra menus. The menus were clean and informative but laid out in a weird way. Regardless, we were all able to find what we wanted. Sometime later an absentminded 20 something came and took our drink orders. A few more minutes later, he came back to take our order. He had a hard time understanding anything we said. He contradicted what was on the menu and spent two minutes trying to get us to order meat on our nachos. After we finally ordered, he came back and said they were "already out" of chili verde. It was 11am and it was DEAD. But okay. So, I ordered something else. The food itself was mediocre. The BEST thing was the homemade tortillas. You can't beat that. They're amazing, which is why they are getting two stars. The waiter never came back to refill our drinks, someone else finally did. As I was watching him with other customers, he had forgotten whose orders he had taken. Seriously FOUR TABLES and two of us had food. It's was ridiculous. We won't be back. Welcome to my review take a minute to exp. In depth criticism. Noon review\visit. First time here at "LA enchilada" after coming from the regulars of country fare cafe and cafe de Leon. I must say the women here offer superior customer service so expect warm welcomes first off. The order was made for two people I had the mtichochan 3 enchilada combo plate which was delicious overall. Only downside I must say is the size and pricing don't seem right but the quality was great I enjoyed the meal. The albondigas order was Not so great only for the reason of quantity of meatballs In the giant bowl. I see quantity being an issue often in reviews whether it was meat or beans so keep that in mind with your order. Besides that I didn't factor that in the review of stars. Happy eating. Really good Mexican food. Homemade flour AND corn tortillas!!!! Menu has traditional Mexican and American food. We had the sopes with carne Asada it was very good crispy sopes and meat was so tender and full of flavor. We also had the albondigos which was made fresh to order. Veges were plentiful and meatballs were very generously proportion but they were not tender. Broth could have tasted better I had to add more salt. But we really enjoyed the salsas that was offered with our food they were delicious 3 different types, green, red, and the one that came with the chips was the best.
