Ordered food from EL Potro Winter Park thru Uber Eats 3 shell chicken tacos & Taco supreme. The chicken was very bland, the taco shells were ALL soggy, and nothing on the tacos but chicken, cheese, & lettuce. Where are the onions & tomatoes? The taco supreme had nothing on it but ground hamburger & cheese with a few chips underneath. Where were the veggies & sour cream? The hamburger was overloaded and had a strange taste. Worse Mexican food I've ever ordered. Threw away the taco supreme (wasted food) and ate only the chicken from the tacos. There was a bag of chips that were a little stale. Also ordered extra queso cheese that came in a small styrofoam container that wasn't worth $6.00. Sad to say we will never order from El Potro again. Hope our credit goes through Uber Eats. Came in for the buffet, but was late, so just had some lunch. We were given complementary chips and salsa before our meal. Our server wasn't very attentive as we didn't get refills on our water. It didn't take long for us to get our food, I ordered the Huevos con chorizo, which was two scrambled eggs with chorizo, along with rice beans and three flour tortillas. Every thing was cooked well and the portions were friendly. I've always wanted to check this place out, and I'm glad that I did. EL Portro was one of the early true Mexican Restaurants in the Orlando area. They have occupied this space in the K-Mart Plaza for over 8 years. There are four El Portro's restaurants in the Orlando area. Their web site shows that they have restaurants as far away as Brunswick and Valdosta Georgia. At lunch time there is a fantastic buffet for $7.50, which will leave you wanting a siesta all afternoon. They also have a full menu and a 14 item lunch menu with 6 items under $5.00. The lunch menu is available 11 am to 4 pm Monday thru Saturday. My mission today was to eat for less than five dollars and not fell stuffed. I had the Speedy Gonzales - 1 taco, 1 enchilada, and rice. The rice here is some of the best Mexican rice I've ever had. The cheese enchilada was excellent the sauce has a slightly sweet taste. The chicken in the taco was also moist and tender. I think I achieved my mission of getting a good Mexican meal for under five dollars On my next trip I think I'll get the Tacos de Pollo it's listed under the most Mexican in character section of the menu. This is single-handedly the best place my boyfriend and I found when we moved to Maitland for college. The prices for the combo dinners can't be beat and it's some of the most simply delicious food we've had. The people are always friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is homey. Holy crap. I mean, I am blown away. The generous portions, the price, AND the quality. You can't go wrong with anything you get here. We've tried a few restaurants in the area, and I suspect El Potro is simply the best Tex-Mex anywhere. They took care and thought into presentation and packaging for take-out. Delicious. I've been going here since 2001/2002! They always have great authentic Mexican food made to order. The owners are super friendly. They now have several other locations. I love getting the Acapulco Shrimp salad. It gives about 12 grilled shrimp lined along the rim of the plate filled with lettuce, salsa, sour cream, guacamole and cheese. My daughter loves sharing this with me for the perfectly seasoned and grilled shrimp. My husband loves the Chile Relleno. It's always been his favorite and he gets it almost everytime. (6/22/2021) El Potro is opening a branch in Conway soon, but I happened to be driving by this location in Winter Park after work. Decided to do a trial run with them. Got the El Potro Special, which is pretty much like getting one of everything, and the Chimichanga platter. The SO really enjoyed the refried beans the best, very smooshy, and smooth; in my opinion, too salty. Take out is probably not the best for foods that you want to be crunchy or are deep-fried, but the hard shell taco did make it through with some crunch (it was individually wrapped in foil). The chalupa also was packaged separated from the sauced things and made it through. Ingredients were fresh and well-prepared, flavors were pretty mild and standard (except for the heavy hand with the salt). Would probably get again from the Conway location, which is closer (for shorter hold times) and if I needed something quick. Would say not the best we ever had, and not the worst. I ordered a combination plate with a large stuffed with cheese chile relleno, a cheese enchilada and a bean and cheese tostada heaped with lettuce and a generous scoop of their tasty guacamole dip! However, we ordered food today that we always order and were told it wasn't on the menu (Quesadilla Rellena) We modified our order to a burrito grande and asked how much it would be to add chorizo. We were told they don't do that, when it's been done for us every other time we've asked. They also used to charge us 2.00 to add chorizo, but they upcharged it to 4.99 instead.
