Wow! This was a happy accident to discover this restaurant. I have seen it 100 times and dismissed it due to its location next to LA Fitness in a small strip mall. We decided to come here after such poor service at a neighboring restaurant. This is my new favorite local Mexican restaurant. The service is superb, the atmosphere and food are authentic in ambience and flavor. Chips and salsa were served as soon as we arrived. My husband and I came for Father's Day and they offered him a free shot of Tequila. We decided to share Fajitas for 2 and got enough fix for lunch and dinner. I also ordered a Sangria which was delicious. We ended with a yummy chocolate pistachio dessert that had an amazing crunch. Alejandro was our server and took such good care of us and made us feel so welcome. He was attentive to our needs and great about refilling my husband's soda. I look forward to returning to this restaurant the next time I want some delicious Mexican food with great service.

We went during the lunch rush and it still was a fast seating. Fast service and good food. It really doesn't stand out better than anything else but it never disappoints because it is consistent.

Excellent food and great service! It is a family owned business that has stood the test of time and been here for more than 20+. years. Whoever I bring with me for the first time, I can Always count on them having a wonderful experience. The atmosphere, the paintings are original and unique. You can sit indoors or outdoors. The aroma is absolutely enticing!!!

I've been going to El Potro since 2001. It's one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. Always consistent. The food is always good. My favorites are the Pollo Loco & Carne Asada tacos, and I love their homemade chips and salsa. Highly recommended.

Damarama ding dong day! I completely forgot how much I liked El Potro trying so many other new to me places. Used to do them back in college when they had the buffet. Easy solid 9. All the salsas were excellent. Love that orange stuff!! Food was great. We happened upon exceptional exemplary service. Our waiter was just awesome. Going to have to throw them back into the rotation.

El Potro is an affordable dining option with authentic food! It's very casual with fast and friendly service. Most menu items are under $10! The bean chalupa and enchilada were very tasty! Their margaritas were also delicious and a good size! I'll be back!

Carnitas Tacos de Carnitas

The food and service area always excellent at this location. I have my favorites that I usually order. The carnitas Tacos are always a great choice.

King Quesadilla This is all the peppers and onions that are in it that are specified on the menu.

Ordered king quesadilla on uber eats. In the summary of the item it said NOTHING about peppers and onions being in it. It was FULL of onions and peppers. I would consider it a peppers and onion quesadilla with a side of chicken in it. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Shrimp quesadilla

I met a friend here for lunch. I ordered the lunch special shrimp quesadilla with rice and refried beans. She ordered the beef tip burritos. Everything was SO good. The food came out fast. This was my first time here but I'll definitely be back. Good food at low prices.

Already dreaming about going back for these. Along with the hot cakes, I'm also dreaming about the green salsa with chips that they bring out in the beginning. It is so refreshing and not spicy at all for those sensitive to spice like me! If you are sensitive to spice, something great to know for their brunch plates is that they will absolutely work with you to swap out salsas when possible to take the spiciness down a notch. The service was also great - our waitress made great recs and made sure our table was well taken care of. One thing to note: on weekends, they do get pretty busy even with a reservation, but if you are willing to sit outside, the wait may be much shorter. Overall, loved the brunch food and looking forward to trying their regular menu as well!

Also, when you order takeout the container, this one was a four compartment, why they would ever place the cold salad and sour cream in the same compartment next to the hot Moho shrimp with the gravy mixing in with the salad is anyone's guess. They have been there a long time, but the quality has slowly diminished. I'm afraid that along Orlando Ave's restaurant row restaurants come and go based on the quality of their food. I hope they take notice. I wonder what their new restaurant in Maitland will be like noticing a very limited menu and very pricey.

5 Star update because this is still my go-to for exceptional tacos from a family-owned business!…read more(pro-tips: 1) get the fish taco immediately, 2) bring your vegetarian friends) I've been coming to Black Rooster since they first opened, but had to update my COVID-era review (because those times were straaange). I'm a creature of habit and am thankful for a restaurant that stays consistent in terms of quality and experience! PLUS, my husband and I can both find tons of options to eat here (not always easy when you're married to a vegetarian!). The vegetarian friendly options include their black beans, smoked greens taco, plantains, kale caesar salad, kale salad, BR nachos, and of course the chips, salsa, and made-to-order guac. My absolute faves food-wise: - The Smoked Greens taco. I'm not a vegetarian, but this vegetarian taco rivals any of its meat compadres. Made up of kale, shiitake mushroom, plantain, onion, ricotta cheese, and cilantro, this bad boy is smokey with that perfect little addition of sweet from the plantain. Truly a favorite! - The Black Rooster Asada. It looks pretty simple- some brown meat with cilantro on top. But don't let it's appearance deceive you! It's actually filled with seared beef, apple wood smoked bacon, Oaxaca cheese, chile poblano, onion, cilantro, 3 chile-tomato salsa. Because all of the ingredients are tossed together you get a wallop of flavor, with that basic look. She's not ideal for a colorful taco Instagram pic, but she's got more flavor then you can imagine! Spice level- Mild/Medium - Fish Taco. For a more picture-worthy option, this one's got colors upon colors! Crispy beer battered and local, pickled cabbage, remoulade sauce, avocado, cilantro, radish mean it's green, white, orange, purple, etc etc. She's a looker, but the flavor is there to back it up. Without a doubt this is my favorite fish taco in town. - Cilantro Poblano Rice. We love a green rice, and I could eat this on its own all day every day. Don't miss out on this often-overlooked side! Overall, a really wonderful business featuring great ingredients (including house-made tortillas). (and you can order delivery right from their website!)

While we were eating, the owner came over around 11:15 and barked, "Time to go--leave, leave, leave," as if he were chasing animals out of his restaurant. To be clear, I have no problem with being asked to leave after closing. The problem was the owner's arrogant, aggressive, and humiliating way of speaking to paying customers. We were not loud, causing trouble, or refusing to leave. One polite sentence would have solved everything. The most disturbing part is that this was not an untrained employee--it was the OWNER. That means the disrespect comes directly from the top. He was happy to accept our money at 10:50, but twenty minutes later treated us like garbage he needed removed. Good food cannot compensate for an owner who shows this much contempt toward his own customers. There are plenty of taco restaurants in Orlando run by people who understand basic manners and appreciate your business. Spend your money at one of them. I will never return to Black Rooster Taqueria, and I strongly recommend avoiding it.

There was a 20 minute wait, but I was greeted kindly by the staff, and when I walked in you could tell this place was super authentic. The decor was super vibrant and music was bumping. They do not have alcohol, but they have coronas and a margarita type glass premixed for purchase. That held us over for the time being. The chips and salsa were phenomenal. The salsa had some type of sweet pepper flavor to it and you could tell it was homemade. My friend got three tacos with rice and beans and I got the flautas you were able to choose your own meat, which was really cool no extra charge. Sometimes back up plans can end up being the best finds. Definitely will be back!!!!
