Full review at http://www.FoodSherpas.com…read more When looking to experience one of the better steakhouses in Santiago, Chile, one should consider a trip to Happening. The two-floor restaurant has a strong reputation for serving some of the best steaks in the city while providing a generally good ambiance. I've visited Happening a few times over the years, first back in 2012 and a few times over the past 8 months. The food has remained consistent over time with some small variations to the menu. I have noticed that the capacity tends to be filled half of what it was in 2012, when the restaurant was packed on a Friday or Saturday evening. There isn't as much a need for a weekend reservation these days. But this does not take away from the quality of the food.

It's off the beaten path (not in the city center), but totally worth the drive if you have transportation. They have an open fire/spit you can sit around that is set up like a bar. You can watch the pig roast. Very warm on a cool night. Started with a pisco sour mixed perfectly. Then had wine and dinner that was just amazing. For dinner, I had a seafood risotto and lamb chop. It was heaven. The food was cooked perfectly, the portion was large. I ended up taking it home and ate it for breakfast the next day. For dessert, I was provided a local Chilean dessert and it was amazing. We also had some after dinner beverage that I cannot quite remember what it was. I look forward to going back to this estabilishment to try other dishes.

House red is excellent. Service is wonderful. English is not really spoken but you can make it work easily. Getting a Cabify or Uber is easy when returning.

Both the exterior and the interior of the restaurant were inviting. The main dining room in the back had a large clear glass viewing window through which we could see the chef & the parilla (barbecue grill). We both ordered the lomo vetado cooked medium. It was cooked & seasoned perfectly with a wonderful smoky flavor. Excellent cut & quality meat. Really delicious! We also ordered a salad to share as a side dish. For dessert we had the flan which was served with a bit of manjar/dulce de leche on the side. The flan was fairly light and creamy & the manjar was very good. Before ordering dessert, we were advised by the server that they were out of the mote con huesillo -- in Chile they usually wait until after you order to tell you they don't have it, so this is really good service for Chile!! They offered a complimentary mint liqueur dessert which looked delicious (we saw them bringing it to other tables) but we passed on it. A complimentary drink is also rare in Chile & indicative of better than normal Chilean customer service! Great food, great service! I will definitely be back!

Alas, we decided to go to Ox at the last minute on a Saturday night, and all the al fresco tables were already booked, but there were plenty of tables inside. We ordered a round of pisco sours to start - delicious and refreshing. A plate of warm bread soon followed. For starters, I ordered the blue cheese salad, which turned out to be enormous, but I found it to be long on iceberg lettuce and short on toppings. Definitely enough for two people to share - wish I'd known that. For dinner I got the bone-in ribeye steak. It was one of the most beautiful steaks I've ever seen - check out the picture. It was served with a couple different kinds of salt, which I'd recommend skipping, because the steak had plenty of flavor to stand on its own. Although the steak was done just right, unfortunately about a third of it was gristle and fat. I don't mind some fat on a ribeye, but in this case it was excessive. The restaurant has a nice wine list. We ordered a bottle of Chilean red, which was beautifully presented and a great complement to the steaks. As a joke, our waitstaff brought over an oversize bottle of wine to place on our table and offered to take our pictures. I guess it was pretty obvious we were tourists. As another whimsical touch, a dish of complimentary cotton candy was delivered to our table at the end of the meal. Overall, a good experience, although a bit pricey for what we got.

However - I wish I hadn't ordered the bleu cheese salad because it was good but I was sooooo full and I wanted to enjoy my salmon. The French onion risotto was absolutely amazing. I had never tasted such a combination of flavors and I found myself dipping my spoon in this dish even when I had given up on my main meal due to being full. It was just that good. My husband and I do not speak Spanish and we had no trouble ordering and asking for recommendations. Everyone was super helpful and attentive. If visiting Santiago, ensure you make at least one trip to Ox. I made my reservation on line via email. It's in a nice residential area and a quick uber ride to the city. Consider doing a 1pm lunch and then going to the cathedral square for the free walking tour at 3:30. You'll want to walk off your meal!

This restaurant is located in downtown Santiago, in a nice and quiet area close to Plaza Brasil. We stayed at the "terraza" which is actually located downstairs, but in a covered patio area. Really nice and spacious. It wasn't really cold even though it's winter. They bring you a bread of basket to start that also comes with some cocktail empanadas that are absolutely delicious. My husband ordered a whiskey sour and I ordered a margarita. My margarita is the best one I have had in Chile. For food I ordered the "biffe chorizo, lomo vetado" cooked medium with a side of creamed corn. My meat was perfectly cooked and so big that I was able to share it with my sister. Our server was attentive and efficient, but he gave us time to talk, think about what we wanted and enjoy our food. Even though it's a pricier restaurant in Santiago, I think it is definitely worth the price. I will be back!
