HORRIBLE SERVICE. Edgar was my server , he was not taking care of me and my family while we were eating. He did not check on us at all. He seemed like he really didnt know what was on the menu and he is Hispanic and spoke well English. THE MANAGER IS HORRIBLE! Gave me the wrong food and refused to take it off my order because it was "too expensive to make" I ordered something that cost 10 dollars... the managers name is Jose. Will never eat here again. We came here for the first time in 2022. I remember we enjoyed our meal. I said we'd come back next time in town. We ate here this visit 2 days in a row. Their chili poblano is so good! It's stuffed with ground beef and cheese, topped with crema and chili sauce. Soft tacos de asada-delish. Hard shell tacos were crispy and filled with goodness. If I could give zero stars I would. First of all the waiter told us that the kids meals included drinks. Then we got our food, and the ground beef in the tacos, tasted as if it was either old and rancid, or was reheated from the day previous. When attempting to speak to the manager, the manager was extremely unprofessional, and said, " the kids have never included drinks, you should know this as you've been coming here for years".. I will keep my butt in Columbia in the future at "Real Mexico" whose quality knocks this location OUT THE PARK! read more

It doesn't get much better for Mexican food in the Midlands than El Poblano! I'm a big fan of the other El Pablano and I had a hankering for some Mexican food and I chose wisely. Great service, really good food and a great value. The Chilies Poblanos is my personal favorite. Two peppers stuffed with beef and cheese and a side of rice and beans is filling yet not overly heavy. Ordered food for me and my co workers and asked for extra onions and paid for it, but did not get extra onions on food. I called and spoke with manager who was rude extremely rude. went back to get more onions, and he gave be a plate full of almost uncooked onions and had a smart rude comment and tried to cause a scene. Traveling and really wanted to have a beer and lunch. This place one was one the few open. Customer service was great. The place was clean. My food was out ridiculously fast and was fresh. I never leave a review but this place was great. Note, there is no bar seating. That would be my only complaint. I will definitely stop back next time I'm in the area. read more

Then the total. When we said something to the cashier he told David nothing is free in America and got very defensive that we caught this on the bill!!" The waiter was super nice and gave us all of our food so fast. I did tell the owner while paying that the steak was very stingy and not cooked all the way as well as being very bland. That was ok with me I was still going to pay but I wanted to give him a heads up for future customers. He freaked out and completely insulted my boyfriend and I. He said that I wasn't good enough to be in the restaurant because I didn't let him know the steak was bad right away lol. I said well I was still going to pay for it but alright (and we did pay and did not ask for the plate to be taken off). We walked out super disappointed with our service. I feel so bad for the hard working waitress who missed out on the tip at the register due to their horrible owner. Also he said he was famous of Facebook for being a a$$hole. An okay Mex restaurant in a sea of many. So many Mexican places in the Columbia and surrounding areas... this one is eh. Service was kind and welcoming, restaurant does not feel super clean...., but had cool decor and a dark atmosphere. Food... salsa and chips were on point. I ordered the Chile poblano and it came out only minutes after ordering which made me suspicous. The plate was hot but the poblano was not. The cheese inside was still cold and unmelted... i ended up feeling like it was pre prepared and then microwaved. I was disappointed to say the least, it seems to be a local go to. Maybe i just caught them on an off day. Prices reasonable... seems popular... considering i was one of the first customers of the day... I'd expect my food to be fresh and hot. read more

When driving up or down I-26 this is the place we stop for lunch. Always a busy place with the locals. The food is great. I get the enchilada plate. Very good food! Friendly staff, prompt service and the food came out very fast. The salsa was tasty, although I'm not a fan of their guacamole. I asked if it was made fresh in house and he nodded "yes" but it came out in 60 seconds after ordering and it was a creamy guacamole that was certainly not your just made, fresh guacamole you'd expect. Service is terrible. The food is below average and the tables were gross and sticky: The manager refuses to accept any mistakes by the staff or kitchen: He is very aggressive. He will lecture you and call the police. I ordered a margarita it was straight syrup. So thick my straw collapsed trying to drink it. I requested another one: the manager came over and berated me for asking for a drink they made terribly. He then held it up in front of my wife and I and dumped it out. He remade a drink brought it back over and began berating my wife and I again. I offered to pay for both drinks even the one he made incorrectly, just to avoid a confrontation. He was aggressive and weird: we got up and left. He called the police on us. We had eaten a few chips however not consumed anything else and hadn't received our food yet. We waited on the police and spoke with them and left. Obviously a weird man. Newberry deserves better food and service. read more

I visit El Poblano yearly on my visits to South Carolina in July. This year was a big disappointment, while in the past it was a great value something has changed. I ordered a chile relleno and what I was delivered was a pile of melted greasy cheese with a hint of ground beef. I asked the manager about it and he explained that the chile relleno does not come with any poblano pepper like they used to. I thought that was pretty strange, since yesterday I ate at Fogata in Chapin and the chile relleno there was a fried poblano stuffed with ground beef. I also visited El Poblano a week ago for the chicken fajita nachos and I was disappointed as well. The chicken was filled with low-quality cartilage filled strange cuts of chicken. The cheese was so watered down it was nearly flavorless and it did not congeal when cold. The taco was filled with unseasoned ground beef. From a distance the taco looked great, but after the first bite you knew it was missing the key ingredient taco seasoning. read more

We were looking for non-fast food option as we travelled I385. A quick search for Mexican steered us towards El Poblano. Since it was a couple of miles off interstate we weren't too sure. Once we got to the town of Newberry we were reassured. This place, surrounded by a WalMart and fast options was packed on Monday night after 8pm. They follow Covid protocols and servers were masked. Our waiter brought fresh chips and salsa, then took drink order. Our food (burritos and enchiladas with beans and rice) was hot and very filling, large portions. Service was quick and friendly, and drinks were filled without asking. We were very impressed and would highly recommend if you are in the area, or are driving between Greenville and Columbia.
