this tapas bar/restaurant was recommended by our city tour guide earlier in the day. she said that this place has food representative of cordoba and has a nice variety of tapas dishes. though she wrote down the name of the restaurant, she couldn't give us the exact address, but gave us general walking directions, so it took a little time to walk along the river and find this place, but it was worth the walk, and the wait as many delicious sounding dishes awaited us!
hubby orderd a glass of rueda verdejo, which i understand is spain's leading white wine. i ordered my usual bottle of non-sparkling water, since i needed to rehydrate after such a hot day.
we ordered the following tapas to share:
+honey eggplant chips - these looked like french fries in shape and colour, but they were drizzled with a dark brown sauce. once we bit into them, they tasted like fried, mashed-up eggplant with a touch of honey and vinegar. this was a great combo, and so delicious that we devoured the entire plate! and it was quite a large serving too!
+broad beans and ham - this was a mixture of green broad beans and diced iberian ham. i don't eat ham, but i did try some of the beans and they were tender and chewy.
+spicy beef tripe - this was all hubby since i don't do spicy and i don't do beef. i think he enjoyed it b/c he ate it all!
a complimentary basket of bread was served with our meal and we didn't hesitate to chow down on all the slices since we were so hungry after our long walk to get here.
although service was good, it was challenging at times since we didn't speak spanish and the staff did not speak english. fortunately, my trusty little spanish english dictionary came to the rescue and we were able to communicate the basics.
we actually wanted some dessert, but unfortunately, they were all out of dessert for the evening...a bit surprising since it wasn't that late, maybe 2200, 2230 by the time we were through with our meal.
the total bill was €19,50, an excellent price for everything that we consumed. our tour guide picked a winner in terms of food variety and price, for which we are very grateful. read more
