Days later, while walking around Sedona Artist Market, which sits in an unimpressive strip mall along the main road into Sedona I said what I was thinking: "I like everything about this place better than anything about that other place". "That other place" was Tlaquepaque Village. Sedona Artist Market is a big collective of artists booths. When I walked in, two painters were up front, painting original, high quality works. The rest of the space was filled with art of all types by a wide swath of artists. Not to pit one place against another, but the idea of what Tlaquepaque Village was originally envisioned to be seems to have gotten lost along the way. If you want to see a wider variety of art at many different price points, Sedona Artist Market is well worth a stop.

We saw a vacant space, so we grabbed it. It was right in front of a cool little art shop called Sedona's Tree House. Poking your head through the door is enjoyable in and of itself. It's as if you've met up with the Ents of Fangorn Forest (The Hobbit) and have been carried into a magical treehouse dream, with a giant tree climbing up through the middle of the shop. The shelves are cleverly designed from beautifully rough cut and masterfully finished planks held up in some cases with what seem to be branches growing out from under them. Hand crafted Kokopelli wind chimes, nature inspired table and wall art, and various artsy knickknacks of all sorts are beautifully displayed throughout this cozy little treehouse-themed shop. We ended up buying a beautiful sun-themed wind chime for only $25 that we're looking forward to putting up in our courtyard when we get home!

There was a small group of us- five. Even though it says it's a two-hour class, it's only about 20 minutes per person. We took turns making our glass piece. Sedona's shops have so much of the above-mentioned stuff, coupled with commercial art that did little for me, that I made sure to get myself here when I learned of it. Although I entered right about the time they closed, the friendly worker in the space - an artist herself - helpfully let me stay until I was through enjoying the wide variety of art on display. There's not a ton of art to see but just enough to restore my faith that the artists of Sedona aren't all peddling stuff that looks like what I was seeing in the shops. Once done viewing this ever-changing and varied collection of well-priced works I was invited through another door to see the figurative works that a recent class had been creating. If I ever find myself living in Sedona I've no doubt that Sedona Arts Center is a place with which I'd have more than a passing relationship. If you're an art lover, make some time to enjoy it.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were stacks and stacks of records that had not been gone through hundreds of times and all of the good titles weeded out. I found some great gems to add to my collection. There were plenty that I could not get to on the bottoms of bookshelves blocked in with newly added art and I still walked away with many hard to find titles in great shape. I wish I had more time to spend as I would have left with more. I even left a Bowie record behind accidentally and Mark went out of his way to ship it back to Atlanta for me. An employee who I now also assume is Eva from other reviews came outside and told me she was locking that door so I had to come inside. The mirror I really wanted was outside of that door though and I was confused because it was close to 5 but they close at 5:30 pm. I asked her if she could wait to lock the door but no- they close some sections earlier and apparently that couldn't wait. I left without buying any of the things and will spend my money somewhere that people don't chase me out. I have worked in customer service and in a tourist place and it often sucks. I didn't and don't expect smiles and friendliness, but at a bare minimum need to not be locked out of the area of a store 30 minutes before closing. There are a number of signs indicating it's easy to transgress their rules and get yelled at or ejected...so weird how very unfriendly the people at a shop with so many great things could be. Ps don't even think about trying to use the restroom if not a paying customer- you have to buy something and then the other lady will grudgingly hand over some toilet paper. Dang! I went in so happy and left so annoyed.

Navarro Gallery is located in the Tlaquepaqua Arts & Shopping Village. I loved looking all of the…read moregorgeous bronze statues in this gallery. Chris Navarro has been sculpting since 1986 and is well known. There are many other artists displayed in the gallery along with Chris Navarro. Jill Hartley is a favorite of mine. She paints gorgeous landscapes. Dean Bradshaw also does beautiful paintings of nature. I love Sarah Rogers watercolors. If you are visiting in the area this is a must see gallery. The staff is very engaging and all of the pieces are lovely.
