I really, really wanted to like Coffee Town, but I just can't recommend it. I visited twice, and…read morethis is my review of both drinks: 1) Almond milk cappuccino: overly sweet and overly sour at the same time. Not sure where they are getting their almond milk, but the drink was terrible. 2) Pour-over (V-60 or 'Dripper'): Came out to 100 pesos, or ~$6.50. This was the average price for the options (i.e. not an overly fancy bean). For that sum, I got about 1/2 a cup of coffee. I have been to quite a few coffee roasters around the world, and this was by far the most overpriced cup I've had, including expensive countries like the U.K. and Japan. The coffee itself was pretty average: the pour over I had the day before in Montevideo (for the half the price) was way better. The staff is nice and the wifi free and fast. Besides that, I'm not going back, despite my hostel being only a block away.

Best medialunas we tasted in argentina. then again, they were basically croissants.

Lumio is another of a breed of pleasant, unbearably adorable read-your-newspaper spots in San Telmo…read morewhere you can get your breakfast, lunch, or cafe time in. They even sell handmade ceramics and teas, and have a little table with a pretty bakery display. Find this bright corner cafe just across the street from the San Telmo flea market building. We stopped in for our merienda (the light evening meal before a typically late dinner). Sets for merienda are available until 7pm (same sets for desayuno until around noon). The tostadas were thick slices of fresh bread, a perfect snack when accompanied by queso blanco and dulce de leche. The #3 salad was giant (as expected) and was one the tastier salads I've had. They were the first place we went in Argentina that actually charged us the table fee (cubierto) - 9 pesos. Menu prices are average-to-high: the "sencillo" merienda set was 37 pesos, salad was 42 pesos, and yerba mate from a teabag was annoyingly 17 pesos. Worth a visit? It's no destination, but it's a cute place to indulge in the local cafe-going thing if you're in San Telmo.
